New Subaru 216a / FT-86 Spy Photos Reveals Hatchback Coupe
2 Attachment(s)
It's been a while since we've seen a test car for the new Toyota/Subaru coupe, but a new mule has just surfaced here in the United States and for the first time ever – we can confirm its hatchback configuration!
Look for the Subaru version of the FT-86 to debut at the Geneva Motor Show early next month! Attachment 1253 Attachment 1254 |
best news i've heard in a while! please please please be a hatchback!!!!!!
|
What I see is dual exit exhaust.
|
Is that dual exhaust or just dual pipes? Or is it just the same thing?
|
Cant wait for Geneva Motor Show lots of good stuff coming out

Perhaps that's how they'll separate the Subaru and Toyota models. Subaru gets hatch and Toyota gets saloon. It could be the most distinguishing features outside the front end branding (headlights, grill, badge etc)
|
This is great news.
I'm curious to why it still looks so much like the old monster mule made of old impreza and legacy parts. Being so close to production, don't manufacturers usually move onto a closer-to-production test car? Maybe they knew what it was going to look like for all this time. Or, more likely, they're still just testing components. |
1: I really hope its a hatch
2: This doesn't look like a hatch at all 3: This is still a mule..so its probably not even close to what its going to be |

That would suck is Subbie got the hatch and Toyota got the coupe...
I want a toyota hatch, QQ |
that's a trunk, not a hatch.
|
Sooooooo.... a Subaru mule in the states... indication that regardless of whether the states get Toyota or Scion, the Suby will be available stateside? one can only hope :happyanim:

They might have just left the moldings/striping of the rear window, so it might not be a hatch just cus there is a gap around the rear window. That being said it does look like the rear window comes up with the boot so who knows :D
Purely for strength vs weight I'd prefer a coupe |
Is there firm proof yet that the Toyo version will actually be Scion badged?
Also, in the comments people are talking about a 2013 model, it got pushed back AGAIN? |
I have a feeling the subaru version will be quirky and unnatractive.

if the subie's a hatch and unattractive, maybe you could bolt on the jdm toyota front end :bellyroll:

But it isn't definitive just b/c they're testing it here. The VW Scirocco was tested in the states but those b@stards didn't bring it over. |

Yeah I honestly think Subaru execs despise good looking cars. I've never seen a Subie that makes me go "WOW!!!" that's a gorgeous looking car. I believe Scion/Toyota will be the sleek, sexy, low slunger that will make me go WOW!!!
Sleek/Sharp/Low slung>>>Quirky. |

there is also no reason to believe that it has been pushed back to 2013. just wait a couple weeks until Geneva, and i'm sure we'll have at least a little bit more information. |

This does NOT prove it's a hatch.
Plus, even the mule isn't a hatch. If you look closely, the mule is simply a shortened Subaru Impreza sedan. Same exact tail lights, same C-pillar, same rear windows. People also aren't understanding the point of a mule. It's to test the chassis of the car while borrowing from the parts bin externally, in order to not reveal the design of the car. If you're going to go by the mule, then the Subaru version is going to be a shortened sedan... which it won't be. My bet is still on it being a coupe. |
I still think it's funny that people think it looks like a hatch. I don't think it's possible w/ the angle of the truck and rear windshield that it would have any of opening like a hatch.
|
That's no hatch. Look at the left hand corner of the trunk touching the rear window section. You can see the glass through the gap in the trunk lid and the rear quarter panel.
But if Subaru were to get a hatch, and Toyota a coupe, I'd be in a real dilemma. |
