Quick question

Ok so I am wanting to tint my tail light with nightshade but with sanding them I wanted to use 2000 grit sand paper but cam only get my hands on 1200 grit. How much is it going to change the finished product if I use the 1200 grit? Thanks

The P1200 should be OK ....... just don't press down quite as hard as you would with P2000.

Do you realize "nightshade" is poison type of plant .....:eyebulge:

And why do you want to make your tail lights darker ………. ??

Never mind that last question.......:bonk:

Eh? Lol

Any auto parts store should have 2000 grit. At least, that's where I used to find it when I was building guitars.

This might seem like a nice way to mod your car, but consider this: If someone rear-ends you because they don't see your break lights due to the tint, you might end up getting sued. I don't think it's worth it.

Well in fairness if Sombody rear ends you your tail lights probably would break making your sentence correct in a round about sort of way.

NA_FRS86 10-10-2015 07:07 PM

you should be fine with that third brake light on the back window. I had he same issue when I had my AE86. I was rear ended and I had smoked JDM taillights (which weren't that dark at all). The other driver said he didnt see me hit the brakes and told the police that. the police inspected me on the spot and noticed my third brake light and told the other driver that he was pretty much an idiot.

Who cares what a cop thinks? He's just another guy giving an opinion. I imagine having 2/3rds of your brake lights less visible than stock would be a significant fact in a lawsuit.

BlaineWasHere 10-11-2015 01:43 AM

I think it's pretty effing stupid to make brake and tail lights darker, maybe just take the airbags out while we are removing safety features. Not to mention it looks cheap as hell.

Someone please answer me this ....... why do some folks want to modify their cars headlights, so they are as bright as a jet airplane's landing lights coming at you ........ then want to make their car's tail lights as weak as the tail lights on a 1937 Chevrolet ...... ??

:sigh:

Because it's all about me. Headlights too bright for you in your oncoming vehicle? So what, not too bright for me. Taillights too dark for you? What do I care? My car looks good=I look good. It's all about me.

Followed by "power hungry cop wanted to check my headlights. He has no right to violate my right not to be searched" and "some moron rear ended me I am going to sue their pants off".

@humfrz

I think they think tinted lights look good. IMHO they look like cr@p. I'd rather throw Burger King Halloween whopper blue/green feces on the tails/headlights, than tint. It looks so rice. Just turn them off at night if you gonna tint... LOL

Might as well paint them black.

No offense brothers. Just an opinion.

I don't mind tinted lights at all they can look really good. The problem is that there is a difference between tinted and painted. It is not the same thing there folks. Tinted lights can still let the proper amount of light through. Paint won't. And then there is the ultimate in shear idiocy that I have now seen twice locally. That is the strange new practice of plastidipping tails.

LOL only rear lights I seen plastidipped were on a Si! hahaha

All tails I see dark are super dark. So dim that when they brake at night, I can't tell the difference if they just on or slowing down!

Spotted them from across the parking lot. Looked like two blackboards on the back of the car. Actually looked even worse in person than in the pic. I hung for a few minutes but nobody showed. Parked in the same spot yesterday so presume they work there.

There were bits and pieces done all over the car. I couldn't care less about that but those tails looked like crap.

How is this any different than the fuck heads who drive around with 2/3 brake lights out? At least if you have smoked tails, they're still working.

Not defending smoked tails, as it's not something I'd do. Just felt like that point should be made.

Probably depends on why they are out, and did the fuck head know, or should he have known, they were out.

A guy with smoked tails intentionally degraded a safety item on a vehicle. If the gentleman who slammed into his car claims he didn't see the brake lights glow, that could be significant in a trial.

Kind of like taking out a passenger air bag (you know, for weight savings), and not telling the passenger. Different than if the bag didn't work, but the driver didn't know it was inoperable.

why? 10-11-2015 11:08 PM

taking out the airbags is a hell of a lot safer than blacking out taillights. Plus, unless you are the perfect 6' 180 lb male the airbags would probably injure you if they went off anyways.

Not true and really not true. This isn't 1974 airbag tech. It is not a disputable fact that modern airbags reduce injury. They can't eliminate them but in no way do they cause them.

Alex0827a 10-12-2015 01:55 PM

Honestly, I like the look of darker headlights/taillights. Whenever I get my FRS/BRZ, I plan on doing that. But painting is a little risky, I'd much rather pay for smoked housings that come with the LEDs than to make my car less visible. Just a thought, but it's not my car :)
