I use WS-80s in the winter here, and they perform very very well.
Even went and did rallyx on a frozen lake, and the tires were fantastic. If you need winter tires, get WS-80s. |
Got a set last year, very good tires for Michigan winter. Never had any issues.

I have heard great things about these tires too and got them for my BRZ too.

If you're looking for tires, I may actually be selling my 215/45/17 WS-80s from last year (still have tons of life left in them), and buying some 16" winter wheels and tires for this year. |
One more vote for WS-80's being fantastic winter tires.
I put a set on my BRZ and drove through the Rocky Mountains from Seattle WA to Edmonton AB last winter. Did great in sub freezing temps, snow, ice, freezing rain and everything in between going over the passes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Blizzaks are my first choice for winter tires, and have been for a long time. I've run a set of WS-60s on my FR-S for the last 3 winters in the snow belt of Southern Ontario Canada, and they've been great. I'm surprised by how good this car is in the white stuff with the right tires. I will be replacing them with a set of WS-80s this year.

I installed the 16 inch rims with 16 inch blizzak ws80 winter tires last sunday. Temperature is around my area are low 30s to high 50s at the moment, so the tires will maximize its performance during colder days and snow..
Frist impressions, Blizzak ws80 are noisy! It gets so annoying sometimes. Also, i have noticed that the car feels different, like it does not feel as fun as with my 17 inch STI wheels and primacy summer tires. (Im not sure why..) Keep in mind that this tires are fat! Makes sense since tires needs more threat on snow, but IMO it does not look as good compare to my thin profile primacy tires. Obviously, this tires are meant for cold freezing days and snow days, so i will see the full advantages on having them throughout the winter. I will post some pics of how my car looks within the next few days. |
fat? as in wide? Then on ice/snow on contrary, better to have them narrow for more pressure per (smaller) contact patch.

My understanding was that this tires were great under temperatures below 44 F, hopefully they get better as winter starts to come in harder. |

WS series Blizzak are the more hardcore (excluding the ice tires) of the Blizzak line. Depending on what you want and how badly you need to drive in snow, the more performance oriented LM Blizzaks may be a better choice. All depends on your needs. I have a truck as well, so the LMs were an easy choice for me. LMs will last longer as well.
You can compare Blizzak characteristics (see tools on right side of page), including snow traction and dry traction, here: http://www.bridgestonetire.com/catal...estone/blizzak |
Ive had a set for a while now, Maine winters are NOT nice. They really do a great job...car is obviously very light, so getting some momentum on a hill can be tough.

I just got my first set of ws80s put on this week. Ordered them from TR last week, and the next day red an article in the paper how all of December was going to be uncharacteristically mild... Probably should have waited, but I'd rather have them on a wee bit too early than not have them in time.

I've got a set on mine, got them last year and they're amazing. Was humiliating SUVs and crossovers left and right. I found putting a large sand bag in the trunk helps with traction as well.. not to mention you could always pop it open if you do get stuck on the ice :D
|
Wanted to add something to the mix. I just put on WS80s about a week ago or so, and since then we've had a warm front move in. Yesterday it was up to 70 degrees (20 celcius for the international folk). The WS80s are absolute crap in the heat. They are mushy, traction control would kick in when I was turning, etc.
I knew I should have waited to put them on, but for folks sitting on the fence, I'd suggest you wait until the weather is right for them. --kravi |
^ I've been having the same issue as you, right after I put them on it's gone back up to 10 degrees Celsius. The car feels floaty as heck, and the traction control is coming on almost every time I round a 90 degree bend, frigging frustrating, though they were like 10psi under inflated but nope, just warm and unhappy.

Good to see someone else local. Let me know if you ever want to go for a drive. Also, just got a ATEQ Quickset, so let me know if you need any help switching between snows and summers. |
I am glad mine are already installed, I don't want to be out there when its 20F trying to put them on...they do suck when its even over 40F though.
