Just had an "OH SHIT" moment

So I had plugged the bottom portion of my inlet hose with a PVC cap and crimped. Recently, I was under the impression that it had fallen out since I was getting lean conditions (due to a hole in the intake system post-maf

I naturally plug the hole with a rubber slightly tapered plug that would adhere better to the rubber of the inlet hose. @Ultramaroon helped me fasten.

HOWEVER.... Today on my way home from getting dinner with my gf, I gave it WOT around a corner and got a check engine light and the car went into limp mode. I pulled over and plugged my tablet into the OBD2 port to see what as up.
It was throwing primarily this code: P2109 code. Dealing with the throttle body.
I ended up taking off my inlet hose and this is what I find....... LOL FUCK ME

This piece that I was using to be a stopper for one of the resonator spots had been sucked into the inlet hose, however, it was JUST big enough to not be sucked into the engine unless I was giving it 100% throttle, at which point it got wedged.... scared me shitless lol

Nothing else to this post, just sharing my horror story and the good that came of it!:confused0068::confused0068:

In hindsight it would've been safer to have a cap that goes OVER not inside the hole

That sounds inappropriate. Also, you are right.

Ultramaroon 09-28-2015 01:40 PM

Uggh... I asked you if you were sure it didn't get sucked in.

Now I think you understand why I insist we cut down the bigger stopper we bought so it has a shoulder and then clamp that in place. I still have it.

That was damn lucky; once-in-a-lifetime lucky.

86Hiro 09-28-2015 02:08 PM

That even had me gasping when I read this....Lucky Lucky! That would've been customer neglect and out of your pocket!

adamg 09-28-2015 02:23 PM

Same situation happened to a friend of mine. Im seeing way to many people capping off this section and risking the cap getting sucked into the engine. sketch

0.0

thats crazy... You sir are also lucky.

JazzleSAURUS 09-28-2015 04:43 PM

WOW! When I did this on the stock inlet tube I used a hard plastic PVC cap with a big hefty lip.

That's crazy!

Glad the Mishimoto inlet I have now gets rid of this.

flippy 09-28-2015 05:10 PM

I lol'd

aynickay 09-28-2015 07:14 PM

Definitely an oh shit moment thats for sure

Tcoat 09-28-2015 07:23 PM

Is it irony that your engine could blow by sucking?

chaoskaze 09-28-2015 07:46 PM

OHHHHHH SHIIIT XD

You should be thankful that u didn't get That shiny big throttle body kit

RobertPaulson 09-28-2015 07:47 PM

and this is why the perrin inlet is just better. no more sound tube and no hole to plug.

Glad it didn't suck too hard then. The engine definitely would've blown. Would've been a big mess for everyone involved.

JEDI 09-28-2015 09:27 PM

The pic of that piece in the throttle body is priceless... on a side note there was a inlet tube with sound resonator delete for sale by Zeta as well for $39...

Ultramaroon 09-28-2015 11:53 PM

It sucks when you blow your engine but a blown engine doesn't suck.
