Yet another oil leak....
So not to long ago I encountered oil on my under tray and, well, I'll let the pictures do the talking... Its right behind the valve cover. Any recommendations on how to fix it? I was thinking of taking the bolt out and putting a washer there... Will that help?

I don't know enough about that engine to know what the bolt is helping to hold in place ....... it could be holding the thing that carries one of the camshafts ..... or, it might be a head bolt ..... or a bolt holding something else ....... :iono: I would wager that the oil is not coming from around that bolt (in other words, the bolt is not a sealing type (like a drain plug). The oil may be coming from somewhere else and dripping off the bolt .... ?? However, I'd tighten up the bolt (just for the heck of it), clean up the oil from around the area and see it the oil leak returns. What we need here is for someone to chime in that has had this engine apart ..... and knows what he/she is talking about..... :) humfrz |
Any other recommendations

Let's see, tightening that bolt down. Since it's not a head bolt, how about using a standard length box end wrench of the appropriate size. Just tighten it down till it's "tight". You won't over tighten it or twist it off with a wrench like that (without a pipe on the wrench.....;)). Oh, you can't reach it with a box end wrench ...... OK, you may use a ratchet, no bigger than 3/8" drive. Tighten till it's "tight" ..... that's as tight as you can get it using only one hand ..... and NOT using your other hand or foot for leverage. Well, OK ....... so, ol humfrz is out of touch ...... :( How about torqueing it down to about 15 ft lbs. If the bolt twists off ..... I was wrong ..... if the bolt falls out after you have driven a ways ...... I was wrong ...... :iono: By this time someone should come along to tell ol humfrz that he doesn’t know what he is talking about …. and help you out........ humfrz |
