First Whiteout 86 in the Middle East
Hi all!
After about four months of badgering our local (and only) Toyota dealer here in Dubai, my new pearl white 86 finally arrived last week. http://www.motoringme.com/wp-content...6/IMG_6281.jpg Our cars are a little different to what you get in the States - only the base car arrives in manual and it's missing cruise control, climate control and anything close to a decent stereo. We also don't get the 'proper' digital/analogue dash, but the very basic BRZ one, which is pretty odd if you ask me. http://www.motoringme.com/wp-content...6/IMG_6079.jpg So far absolutely loving the car - it's the perfect mix of practicality, fun and style and a damn sight more usable than my old (dearly departed) MX-5. In case some of you are curious what's it to buy cars in the Middle East, I'm documenting the whole process here and here on my own site. Loving everyone's journals so far. It's amazing to see how many different directions people will be going with this simple, basic car. Me, next stop for me is probably a decent head unit, new speakers, rims, headers and exhaust. For now, anyways.. |
You guys buy cars out of basements? Seems shady to me! =p
|
Congrats on your car!
So many white cars... makes sense, its must be hot most of the time. |
Yeah, white cars are pretty popular out here for that reason - its an 131 degrees F outside today! Also fetch slightly better resale value.
Having said that, I wasn't particularly after a white car. Demand for this car is so high and the allocation for the Middle East so tight that my only colour choices were this, red or black. My MX-5 was Copper red, black is suicidal in this weather...so that left me with pearl white. Pretty bitchin' colour in the flesh, it has to be said. No complaints at all. |
Trade you your toyota badges for some exciting scion ones! haha. Congrats on the new car! Amazing color! Lets see some safe hagwalah videos!
|
That's strange; I figured you would have more options for the 86 in Dubai, of all places. Congratulations just the same!
|
Just got part 3 of my delivery diary up.
FYI, in case anyone's wondering, this is the stock head unit we get out here...and it's crap! http://i.imgur.com/iSxdy.jpg |
I like that radio better than the Scion FRS radio design.
|
Look whos here!
|
plus I do like your wheels better than the USDM 86
|
Honestly , I wonder what roads you can use this car in Dubai on since the track is not having much track days lately and without nice canyon roads it would be a shame to just drive this car on SZR .
The white looks beautiful though , if only they have it with the same aero kit as the orange one on display |

That whiteout color looks superb. Any plans on modifying yours? Receiving mine in Firestorm color probably end of July(that's what the sales guy keeps telling me). Sure sign after I get the VIN number allocated. I may add visual mods to mine and assuming you are aware of the no-engine-modify laws being enforced in UAE in the past few months. Which dampened my plans to add a turbo/supercharger in the future. Fingers crossed I receive mine on time and document a journal like yours for us folks in Mid-East. I'm jealous of you receiving the car early(in a good way). Quote:

The coastal highway in Musandam(Oman) when you enter from Ras Al Khaimah border has the most twisty roads I've met. http://www.famtripper.com/images/rev...e_Strong_2.jpg Would love to take my car over there once the break-in is done. Cheers ~Imti |
As long as there is no hidden police especially when they will always give a no presence summon and out of no where you will see fines out of nowhere when you re-new your car registration :barf:
and no additional road cameras which is on every 50 meters in Dubai *lol* :bonk::bonk::bonk: |

Now that they're more broken in, the speakers and the head unit actually aren't thaaat bad...but I'm still going to change them for some nice Kenwood action! :) |
Congrats Mr. Giado, just picked up my Firestorm M/T today as well ;)
|
Awesome roads

Any pics available for us to see? I mean start your own thread(maybe I missed it, link?) so we can demand high-res pictures. Not that I'd want Giado's thread hijacked or anything similar :P Quote:
FROM WIKIPEDIA >> "The Jebel Hafeet Mountain Road extends for 7.3 mi (11.7 km) up the mountain, rising 4,000 ft (1,219 m). With 21 corners and three lanes (two climbing and one descending), the immaculate road was called the greatest driving road in the world by Edmunds.com. The road scales the mountain and ends at a parking lot with only a hotel and a palace belonging to the country's rulers." << Cheers, Imti |
Final part of my delivery diary is now up!
It's always nice when the dealer goes the extra mile at the end! :) |

Congrats on your new WhiteOut 86!
I got my Raven 86 on June 15 here in Lebanon. Possibly the first 86 in the Middle East ;) |
woow, this car has been introduced in Lebanon. this is a surprise
what $ did it set you back ? |
I'll basically quote what I said in the Middle East thread :) :
"I said a little something about the cars in Lebanon earlier but I thought I'd give you guys some more details. Toyota sent 3 cars to Lebanon: 1 WhiteOut, 1 Silver (forgot the name), and 1 Raven. Subaru still don't know when the cars are arriving and don't have any information on price. I bought the Raven GT86, it comes with every option in mind except for seat warmers (we live in the Middle East, who cares :p). [Picture attached] The car cost $36,000 BEFORE TAX and amounted to around $43,000 with tax and registration. I heard the Silver is going to the son of the owner of the Toyota dealership and the WhiteOut was sold (but I haven't seen it anywhere). I'd love to start a GT86/BRZ community in Lebanon and feel free to hit me up if you want any additional information that I can help you with. The car has been nothing short of amazing so far. :)" |
Where area are you in, in Lebanon? I just hope the horn is loud enough... lol
|
I live in Beirut... I'm thinking of getting an aftermarket horn ;) and maybe a floodlight installed on the top
|
All I know it's a blast driving out there sometimes you are 3 wide and other times 5 wide. Last time I was there driving up the mts. At night I was 3 wide on the right hand side and the left hand side was 2 wide. Super crazy.
