WTF? Subaru x Gainax Project?

First thing first, if you don't watch any anime/cartoon then, this topic isn't really matter. BUT if you wanna read, you're more than welcome to read it.

And yes, I am anime fan. Not big fan as JDM car maniac, but it's up there for sure. :bellyroll:

Anyways, while looking around few stuff on Subaru online, I came cross this site Subaru x Gainax Anime Project

and here's the PV
[u2b]XL_VUKjOCO0[/u2b]

Yes, you heard it correctly in the vid. Main chara's name is... Subaru (go figures right?). Now it's airing... Gainax have released well known anime series. Evangelion, FLCL, KareKano, Gurren Lagann, and recent one is Panty & Stocking w Garterbelt... but now join project with Subaru? wow now I've almost seen everything.

Man, Subaru sure is busy these days making their ver of FT86, co-project with Cosworth for 1.6L Turbo Impreza & now making an anime series. I wonder, next WRC Impreza gonna have "Houkago no Pleiades" decal all over it. :bellyroll:

edit: I just watch til epi 2 and finall figured out where Subaru come along in this project. Can skip it til 2:10
[u2b]M1YQ8VQeg4g[/u2b]

...just speechless.

Damn, What again? Subaru should make the anime version for FT-86. I will get one in the heart beat.... well.. for my girl. hahaha

Never know. They might :bellyroll:

Dimman 02-02-2011 12:54 AM

A modern Initial D? Hmmm... I just recently discovered the old Midnight Wangan. Starts off with a kid in a 300ZX turbo (1st 300ZX model, Z31?) with 3 passengers, trying to race an older Porsche Turbo, and is surprised that he gets wasted. Not a great first impression.

Also if you want, there's another racing series called Capeta. Start out as kids karting race... but later when he gets older he drive on faster car...

Anime. There's a live action movie, too?

bout 2 yrs ago they made it.

Wangan Midnight (anime) was help made by Best Motoring (just like Ini-D). There were total of 26 anime episodes.

Allch Chcar 02-02-2011 02:23 AM

lol. I couldn't make out most of it because I don't understand much Japanese, between the anata wa and onee-chan it's all Japanese. Something about them being karuku(sp?) and the blob is a kaiju. But I did catch the engine note from the flying stick. And the sound keeps playing in the background while they blab. Isn't magic girls extremely overdone in Anime?

Pleiades = Subaru. But engine sounds for what I can only guess is a magic stick. lawl, that's cheesy.

Reminds me of the classic anime series, Sailor Moon.

lol im not against anime or anything actually i kinda like some of it, but what is this anime exactly about except that Subaru is the main characters name?

Actually, it is the Fairlady Z 280Z-L 2seater (S130) '78 with twin turbo. If you watched the whole series (anime or comic) you will see that.

Want.FR-S 02-02-2011 09:19 PM

I think the name subaru is just happen to be that girl's name, but then that engine sound, is that a boxer engine sound or the new FT-86?

BTW, if Subaru is working with Gainax, does that mean we get AT Field (Evangelion) on the new FT-86?

Actually Dimman is correct. First, Akio drove red 300zx (z31).
http://imcdb.org/i158744.jpg

Then, he change to Devil Z 240z (s30) w L28, bored and stroked to 3.1 liters twin-turbos carb (600hp).
http://imcdb.org/i158742.jpg

Aslo S130 is 280zx and different from S30.
S130

S30

Want.FR-S 02-02-2011 10:43 PM

Thanks for the clarification. I was wrong on identifying the car.

BTW, since the devil Z is a 2.8 L bored to 3.1 L, was the car named 280 Z (US spec) instead of 240 Z?

Dimman 02-02-2011 10:44 PM

Damn rights I'm correct. It's the first episode. And I found it utterly hilarious that he even thought he could hang with, let alone beat, the Porsche when he had 3 other people in his 300ZX.

Yeah, that Blackbird (Porsche 964 Turbo) is cool. In the anime series Blackbird was mostly in slump til the end... but close to the end, it did crazy mod on it.

Dimman 02-02-2011 11:02 PM

About that utterly mind-boggling Sailor Moon clone, with a car-named girl, anyone else NOT hear a recirc/BOV when her 'broom' revved up?

A clear message directly from Subaru themselves that their version will NOT be turbocharged.

(Let's see if this news hits some retard blog. Heh...)

And am I turning into an old man or does anime just keep getting more and more ecchi (dirty)?

Shouldn't it be more Moe rather than H?

I don't quite follow this. All I really know about 'ecchi' is that my ex-gf used to call me that. But in a good way. She explained that 'ecchi' was Japanese for the letter 'H', which meant 'hentai', which means perverted.

But like I said, I was ecchi in a really gooood way. Heh.

I am no japanese but I was using H instead of ecchi, and that is just the short way of saying you are pervert. (But if you are in a relationship, being ecchi may not be that bad after all.)

Moe is the way to describe the anime or comic. Big eye girls with lollipop body. But I think that was term used some years ago and I am not sure if it is still true.

So back to the topic, IMO, that anime is just Moe, not to the degree of ecchi.

No, you're just getting old. :bellyroll: j/k But I do agree with you. within 5 yrs range, anime series got more ecchi. One yr was ecchi boom. All new anime series which was release that yr was ecchi. Series like Queen's Blade, Fight Ippatsu Jyuuden-chan, Kiss x Sis, Seikon no Qwaser and list just goes on and on... I think, some Otaku thinks Ecchi = Moe... Morons

Anyways, back to this story, here's the plot summary:
Subaru is a young girl who discovers that her best friend Aoi is part of magical group trying to recover alien engine fragments so that a little being from the Pleiades star system can return to his home. Subaru considers joining them as she was selected by the Pleiadian, president of this afterschool club, as the possible new member.

btw, some Otaku (both anime & subaru) figured it out the broom or stick they ride on top part design is same as Subaru's front grill and headlight. Here's the pics for the examples:
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...pleiades-5.jpg
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...pleiades-4.jpg

http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...pleiades-2.jpg
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...pleiades-1.jpg

Even I didn't notice that...

edit:
As for H. H can be used for Ecchi or Hentai. It's all depends on the person.

What about the terms Skeibei? was that old term for Ecchi? (Gee, am I that old already?)

word "sukebe" can be still used... but in anime world is old term. In real world, still can be used.

Dimman 02-03-2011 01:02 AM

The girls seem like their getting younger, but now they're flashing garters in the transformation scenes. And some of that broom 'handling'. And all for what? Some odd car commercial? Kids these days...

Anyone want to bet if this 'Alien' engine, ends up being the new STi or 216a's engine reveal at the end? This is a youtube only series right? I'm betting it's a weird viral marketing reveal for a real car/tech.

You heard it here first folks.

I've heard of Moe but all I know is that it didn't mean ecchi. If I hadn't watched the videos I would have guessed the characters were male bishounen dressed as magical girls or really young girls like 10. I've pretty much given up anime because they can't have a mature women without huge jugs or completely flatchested. I actually tried to watch Luckystar knowing they were 17-18 yr old highschool girls but after the obvious discussion about their period with the second really long discussion about food I could feel my brain melting. It had better dialogue than Bleach and I didn't have to worry about surprise boob shots...

And nice mouse icon :bellyroll:.

@ Dimman it's not a car commercial, it's sponsored by Subaru and the simple fact that the magic stick makes engine sounds is disturbing because engines produce lots of...vibration....so how ecchi is it now?
BTW, Panty shots are an anime staple.

Look, when I was 10, I had no choice. There are some violence+bloody anime and Sailor Moon series. Do you think a 10 year old kid like to watch bloody anime? :bellyroll::bellyroll:

It just reminds of Sailor Moon, but I'm not really into it. 10episodes at best. I was a big fan of Dragon Ball or s.th like that afterward. Now I'm into Gundam Series, Fullmetal Alchemist, Naruto, and Code Geass.

Back to the topic, I'd never thought that people could find that the magic sticks are related to Subaru's front ends. LOL

Sure, sure, I'm pretty sure you loved looking that Usagi's transformation. :bellyroll:

Hm... My friend is into Gundam, but I don't really care for em (even tho I have almost all the Gundam series). FMA, I have watch all of em (including the movie), love that VA cast, but never got into the series. Naruto, love the chara (other than Naruto), but stop watching them. Code Geass series were awesome! Lelouch was so cool! He's my fav male chara for sure. Code Geass crazy part for me is chara design was done by Clamp.

Yes, those otakus are crazy. They have way too much time in their hand... well, actually most of otakus are NEET, so I guess they have all the time in the world.

btw, wasn't there an Anime thread in the forum? Hm... maybe I need to bring it back from the dead?
If you're into Robot series, recently robot series call Super Robot Taisen OG. iirc they're in epi 17 (out of 24).

I didn't watch Anime until I was much older since we rarely had TV. But if'n we had Telebision, most Anime would have been banned since even the kiddy stuff is usually over the top. When I think of what my significantly young cousins watch I just :barf:.

Watching FMA Brotherhood with sisters, magnificent compared to the first attempt. If'n we get hi-speed wireless at my house I'm getting back into some Anime watching .

If you want something more mature than Sailor moon you're looking at ecchi. Claymore is a popular one and quite frankly I regret watching it as far as I did, like 20 something episodes. What has been seen cannot be unseen :(.

And I doubt :threadjacked: this one for Anime would hurt anything. You're not going to find a better thread title for an anime discussion than,

No, no, no. There's a lot more mature anime that isn't ecchi. For a good example Yakushiji Ryoko no Kaiki Jikenbo, Monster, Bartender and list just goes on and on.

Man, you have no idea what you missed out on :bellyroll:. I grew up with 4 younger siblings all female. The few times I got control of the television was early mornings and later in the evening. Needless to say I watched a lot of Disney movies and saw more of Kim Possible than I wanted to :(. The big point for Anime is that I can download it to a computer and watch it privately. And Anime is about the only thing I still have in common with the older of the siblings specifically: Chobits, Fruits Basket, FMA the first attempt and now Brotherhood.

Here's lil update on this anime and Subie... I guess, this anime did hit the certain Otaku's spot and those Otakus are buying Subaru cars... Here's info from one of the site: Pleiades Fans Buying Subaru

Quote:

Fans of mahou shoujo anime Houkago no Pleiades are buying Subaru automobiles in droves (if 4 cars constitutes a drove).
2ch has seen at least 4 fans of the show posting up the receipts for cars they bought out of a sense of mahou shoujo appreciation, for models ranging in price from $15,000 to over $35,000:
http://img1.sankakustatic.com/wp-con...ru-otaku-1.jpg
http://img1.sankakustatic.com/wp-con...ru-otaku-2.jpg
http://img4.sankakustatic.com/wp-con...ru-otaku-3.jpg
http://img2.sankakustatic.com/wp-con...ru-otaku-4.jpg
The anime’s production was bankrolled by Subaru, and each character in fact owes subtle aspects of their design to Subaru models.
The direct proceeds from the sales of 4 cars are of course unlikely to fund the production of an anime, but the effect on brand awareness and perception amongst the car-shy youth of Japan may well make it a worthwhile investment as an advertising campaign, and certainly make Subaru the premier maker for anime fans (or those willing to make a $30,000 purchase on the basis of a cartoon at any rate).
http://img2.sankakustatic.com/wp-con...allery-005.jpg
I guess, it did work for Subaru... what's next Toyota gonna co-join w anime studio and make an another mahou shoujo anime?
