BRZ LED lights installed
jmah88 (screen name) and I met up and we started with some LED lighting upgrades for his brand new 2013 Subaru BR-Z Sport-tech in Satin White Pearl. Very nice car, looks awesome in person and the upgraded interior console/push start/navigation is amazing. =)
Front dome light: use a flat head screw driver to open up the plastic lens cover. Front door courtesy lights: use a flat head screw driver and pry it open from the edge. Trunk light: squeeze the opaque light cover and pry at the tab to pop it off, takes a few wiggles to get it off. License plate lights: remove the 2 plastic clips holding onto the black carpet and you will get access to the lights. Twist the bulb socket and it comes right off. For all LED lights, you must check for polarity (+, -) before you put everything back together. If you install the LED and it doesn't light up, flip it around and it should work. Overall, straight forward install and much better appearance at night. And enough talking, the pictures: Interior: http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x416/kki704/a5.jpg http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/...ki704/a4-1.jpg http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x416/kki704/a3.jpg http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/...ki704/a2-1.jpg http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/...ki704/a1-2.jpg http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x416/kki704/a6.jpg http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x416/kki704/a7.jpg Exterior: http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x416/kki704/a10.jpg http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x416/kki704/a9.jpg http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x416/kki704/a8.jpg http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x416/kki704/a11.jpg http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x416/kki704/a12.jpg http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x416/kki704/a14.jpg http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x416/kki704/a13.jpg Hope this brief writeup is helpful to anyone out there who is looking to upgrade their LEDs. Do Subaru toss codes ? MY VW toss me codes saying light bulb out
when it detected incorrect wattage being used by LED bulbs. |

The blue interior LEDs are nice "mood" lights at night but you'll have a headache if you need to read something with them on. I had it in my Mazda3 for a while and ended up changing them to white instead. I really like the licenese plate and reverse lights though!

Hi Cudgel,
Yes, we carry interior LEDs in various colours, with super white LEDs being our #1 seller and most popular choice among customers. The blue interior LEDs are definitely nice and takes time to get used to. We have sold many sets of super white LED license plate lights and reverse lights and so far customer feedback is excellent. For your information, BRZ and FR-S do not throw codes or trigger engine check lights because they are not equipped with complex on-board computers (OBCs). With newer generation VWs, BMWs, Benz, Audi and other European makes, they require LEDs with resistors embedded (CAN-BUS) in order to avoid engine check lights and "bulb out" lights. For the BRZ and FR-S, luckily, it is a simple design and our regular LEDs are plug and play. We also carry CAN-BUS LEDs and HIDs for our customers who drive European models. If you are interested, feel welcome to PM me at your convenience. Quote:

To change the reverse lights, you just have to reach up the back side of the rear bumper. You will see the light bulb socket, just turn the socket and the bulb comes out.
PM us if you are interested in our super white reverse LEDs for your FR-S. Many thanks! |
Glad you like the LED conversion for your interior and exterior. Definitely makes your BRZ sharper at night. Thanks for the complements! =)

Please visit our blog for more information on our LED products and why you can trust HID_Powerhouse's LED products. http://hidpowerhouse.wordpress.com/2...grade-of-leds/ |
what about making the Triangle the reverse light and tint the clear reverse lights red to use as the rear foglight.. ?? I would think you would have to make the triangle clear.. but with the two sides red.. i would think it would be better visibility wise in bad weather.. any thoughts??
I live in Hudson Valley.. and all the roads are so freakin dark here.. I think it would definately make the car more visible in the rain/snow/fog.. |
To make the red triangle housing to clear lens will be very difficult. This is because the light housing is made with red plastic and clear plastic. I can see how tinting the clear lens red or even putting in red-coloured LEDs a viable solution, but then the red lens cannot be converted to clear (opaque).
I have a very bright LED for the reverse light and I can PM you with more details. It basically lights up the ground and the rear end area very well. Because the BRZ/FR-S has the reverse lights mounted low to the ground, it is highly recommended to get the brightest LED reverse lights possible to see better at night, especially when it rains and you are in a poorly-lit parkade or back lane. Please check your PM. =) Quote:
