To replace rims or not replace?
Got in an accident awhile ago with 4 rims getting damage, two had about 2 inch long gashes on the lip, and the other two had scratches and minor chips. The body shop is quoting me $400 to fix them all. Wondering if I should keep the money for the future when I get rpf1's or just let them repair it for now.

Only you can answer that question.
|
I'm personally a fan of the stock wheels, so I can't help you.
|
When do you plan on getting new wheels? If soon (1-3 months), then don't bother repairing. If it's a year down the road, I would.
|
I would just leave them if I was planning on changing anyway. Give it a bit and you will never even notice the marks anymore.
I gotta ask though. How do you damage all 4 rims in an accident? |
I will have 4 stock rims with less than 1000 miles on them and no damage available in a few days, in Orange County, CA

I was thinking a couple of month down the line, also depending how much they were paying for the damage on the rims. Quote:

Here are some pictures: Front wheel http://i1381.photobucket.com/albums/...ps45eph2t4.jpg Back wheel http://i1381.photobucket.com/albums/...pssj0a9rjt.jpg The other two are just minor scuffs and chips. Do you guys think the wheels are even repairable? Considering that the wheels have grooves in them. Don't know how they would pull off that texture. This was the damage to the car, from the front bumper all the way to back, I was quoted $2800 at the beginning and now its bump up to only $3800. I was expect it to be higher than that. http://i1381.photobucket.com/albums/...psfhescjh3.jpg Here is what it looks like now, they told me most of the dents were pop out, don't know how they manage to do it, but they said they are not replacing the door or the quarter panel, just the front fender. http://i1381.photobucket.com/albums/...psyqrlfy4d.jpg Don't know how well this will hold up or should I press on for them to replace all the panels. |

You are actually better off if they can avoid replacing at least the rear quarter as long as the repair doesn't consist of them just slapping in bondo. To replace the panel they have to cut and weld and this destroys the rust proofing where it is done. |

] You wont need to replace the rims unless they are leaking air. Plastic dip it black and put a gloss over it. |
Heads up, I had damage where the car was backed into and the handle was hit. Even after all the bodywork, the handle was still indented into the body and they couldn't get it properly square with the rest of the door. They had to replace the door. My damage was also far less than yours as well.
As your car is white, it will hide imperfections well. That doesn't mean you should be looking for them and get it fixed right. Mine is WRB and it stuck out from over 50 feet away... |

is this going through insurance? it sounds like the shop is scamming you saying you'll only get $400 back. even to recon those wheels and some of the damage does not look like id sent it to my recon guys itd be over 100 a wheel |
There's no way I'd pay $400 to repair stock wheels, you can pick them up as new takeoffs for $300-400 all day long.
Either pick up a set of OEM replacements cheap, or wait until you can buy the wheels that you want. Personally I swapped to a pair of '13 WRX OEM takeoffs that I picked up for $400 because I wanted the extra width while maintaining a OEM style. |

Yeah, it's going through the insurance but I think it's more like $500, I think he miscalculated because he said like $125 a wheel. |
Spend a little more and get aftermarket...
|
RPF1's for 700 easily.

So I finally got the car back, decided to not repair the wheels and save for aftermarket. Problem now is that there is a bunch of overspray, paint has a bunch of scratches. So now I have to bring it back to the shop again. This is whole situation is getting irritating considering how much time I've spent on detailing and opticoating the car to have it all messed up now. Are opticoats covered in an auto accidents? Lol

Ow mate feel for you, sand the rough edges and plasti dip them, I would put a glossifier on them as said before. Hope it all work out.

Car went in to get an alignment today and now the steering is not completely centered and goes off to the right a little.
http://i1381.photobucket.com/albums/...pso5rbdpkk.jpg (Paper was wet from the rain) Does it look normal for stock suspension? Also, does anyone know if there are gaps below their taillight and are the badges they put back and paint job even acceptable? I know this car will not perfectly the same as before, but when does it get to a point of being acceptable and being nit picking. Thanks http://i1381.photobucket.com/albums/...psbwx3z3xj.jpg http://i1381.photobucket.com/albums/...pspyaswvis.jpg http://i1381.photobucket.com/albums/...psjhk2yf5w.jpg |
It should be perfect. If the body shop won't guarantee everything for life that means they won't stand behind there work. It should look like it just came off the showroom floor, because that is what your insurance is paying for.

Most repair shops use cheap aftermarket parts not OEM parts to keep the cost down. Insurance companies puts heaps of pressure on them to keep the cost down. My insurance company covers OEM parts only and this is stated to the repair shop. @why is right they should guarantee the work for life. If you are not happy get them to fix it and speak to your insurance company. Good luck!
