Street Blower?
Has anyone ever heard of an FR-S / BRZ with a street blower installed? My mind works along strange pathways and I'm trying to decide what major mod to do next, after exhaust of course. Is there such a unit that would fit? I'm thinking I don't necessarily want a 300-400hp jet, so a good street blower would do the trick at around 225-250hp in the end. Opinions?

@swarb was being kind to you ...... and pointed you in the right direction.....;) I suggest you roam around the other sections of the forum before you start a thread ....... or, the "forum wolves" may have some fun with you..... :eyebulge: Personally, I don't think this engine should be force fed air .....:iono: humfrz |
Thanks humfrz,
I looked over that page swarb sent the link. I'm a newbie with the car and would love it to be a bit faster. Well, maybe more than a bit. So this is going to be a stupid question. Is a street blower and a supercharger the same thing? Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk |
Da eff is a street blower????
Sounds like a specific type of hooker... |

Seems that term refers to carbureted cars with the huge intake on top of the supercharger |
As I always understood the term, it refers to a blower that wasn't necessarily sticking out of the hood of the car lol.

Yep, back in the day, one could stick a "blower" (supercharger) on an engine to increase power. A "street blower" was one that you just didn't put the hood back on the car (or cut a big hole in it) ...... :D Increasing the power of this machine is a slippery slope. You may consider starting with a free-er flowing, drop in air filter and an aftermarket muffler. Now, those won't give you much "real" power ...... but your ear dyno will make you feel it is more powerful...... humfrz |

Air filter is a very cheap and efficient mod. 5ish who for 50 dollars. Plus as humfrz said, ear dyno loves it.

I am with Hum. Drive it a bit and don't be afraid of the high revs it takes to reach power. Having had many a "high power" (440 magnum had a whooping 300hp stock) car in the 70s and 80s it took a whole new mindset to realize that these new ones gain their horses through revs not pure cubic inch umph. |
Fred I just realized who you were.. :P
I just pinged you on FB ill gladly be your tour guide on the road to darkness... *evil laugh* |

Since I'm apparently too young to know,
I seriously thought of this when I saw the title: http://i58.tinypic.com/72c85h.jpg |
Reminds me of Richard Hammond explaining understeer & oversteer in Top Gear.

What can I say. I'm old school. Between my 67 Chevelle SS and my 80 Trans Am, there very few real cars lol. When I moved out to Arizona last year and saw the BRZ / FR-S, I just had to have one. Turned in my 13 Corolla and have no intention of looking back lol. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk |
Everyone says it's a slippery slope. It isn't. Coming from someone with conservative FI, no hideously expensive supporting mods, daily driven at a reasonable power level.
The blower I suspect you are looking for is the sprintex twin screw unit. Just suspicion from your posts. Do it. You'll love it. Oh and for those that say this engine doesn't like forced air... yes it does. It loves it just fine. The transmission? Maybe not so much, but it's fine in the 200's whp and low 300's under street conditions forever. That's where all the bolt-on canned-tune kits sit anyway without other major mods and tuning. That all said, I'm just killing time with a cheap turbo until the engine swap is all lined up, so maybe I'm full of sh*T about the slippery slope issue. Whatever. Fire me. |

As far as heat soak is concerned... This car has heat soak issues on the track without forced induction. It only gets worse with FI. Air to oil cooler is a must-have. After that, heat soak is going to happen anyway, but Temps will stay out of the dangerous range. |
