Stock fender garnish without 86 badge?
I want to remove the side badges but there badge placement will still remain wondering if anyone has found any online or sale OEM without the badge?
|
Just put the BRZ fender garnish on it. It looks better anyway.

Seriously.
That's been my dream since day one. I bet someone could make a killing by bringing that to market. All the aftermarket fender panels-without exception as far as I'm concerned-look like sh*t. I'm torn between modifying the stock garnishes and having them painted...or just buying the stock BRZ panels. It really bugs me that the designers of these cars chose to emphasize the 1986 COROLLA influence so heavily. And those little piston badges are totally ambiguous anyway, no one can tell what they mean at a glance. "Opposed pistons like a Subaru? Or like a Sports 800? Both? Ok. So what does the little Swastika mean? Oh it's an eighty-six? Why? Was the Sports 800 designed in '86? No? Did Subaru start producing boxers in '86? No? Oh ok. So why does it only have two pistons? Oh. A Corolla you say? Oh cool my parents have one! Wait what? What's a Hatchi-Roku? I'm so confused..." |
I've seen some shaved/filled in, looked pretty good.

I don't know...it looks like it's missing something.

Somebody on here (one of the newer guys?) had the whole thing filled so even the lines and "vents" are gone. Looked really good actually. Was in one of the "I had an accident" threads if I remember right.

I'm a fan of making it a vent (lol) but probably won't for a very long time.

Could definitely be done DIY and a couple hundred bucks to respray and blend the paint, although you may never match a white car... |

I think the best looking vent is the USDM TRD vents that are on the RS 1.0. I'm hoping that someone makes replicas, or the price of the OEM ones go down over time.

Thanks for the new desktop bg. :confused0068: wowsa |
I never did like the 86 piston badge fender garnish... was the one thing on the body that really didn't look right. When the TRD finned ones designed from the Griffon research car came out though I had to get them...absolutely perfect for the car; especially when you see them in person.

Why you no like piston badges?
|
The BRZ fender garnish do look much better. But if it wasn't there at all, I'd be fine by that too. We've got enough 86s in our 86s
|
Seriously? I thought the opposed pistons were one of the coolest things about this car. They actually mean something. Not like the random birds and horses and fish and rhinoceroses that adorned the fenders of the cars I grew up with. And don't get me started on that mutant goat that Dodge puts on its trucks- looks like fricking Mickey Mouse.

The FR-S stock fender garnishes are cool. It's just misunderstood like the ginger that comes with your sashimi.

EDIT - Here you go http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psaf7ff14a.jpg You might be able to find them for cheaper now that the car has been out for a while. If anyone can find them for less please post them up. EDIT EDIT - Looks like you can find them for about $350 now per side. |

There's also the prova side fender garnishes which looks similar to the brz. But it's freakishly expensive though. Even more $$$ if u were to buy it separately from a subaru dealer...
|
Why are simple pieces of plastic so expensive? Can't you get that area filed and painted for the price they are charging for these things?

These parts can only be purchased by owners unless a stealership is willing to sell them against Toyota's rules. btw there's a few more totaled RS1's out there now with the salvage companies. http://i1011.photobucket.com/albums/...psgmciceb4.jpg |
People dislike the stock FR-S fender garnishes?
This is news to me. Why? |

When the front area where that badge is filled and smoothed, it also makes the car look cleaner. Also the would "garnish" sounds like something a grandma puts on her coffee table along with her crocheting stuff. http://i.imgur.com/RBb3tfG.jpg |

The RS 1.0 owner sold the TRD fender garnish you posted above. There's a few of the guys getting the carbon fiber JDM TRD ones and offing their RS1.0 ones for sale. |

Personally I agree that the pistons are a neat little garnish and I'm much happier with them than with the yet-another-fake-vent of the BRZ's (yes I know there's still a small fake vent on the FR-S) or the non-functioning "aero" things. |
