Carpe Diem

Yep, this exactly. Carpe Diem. Instant Gratification. 100% EMOTION Based Impulse Buy.

My xB runs fine, and I don't necessarily NEED another car. It's just all the rave reviews, the ecstatic youtube demos, the frenzy of the forums-- it just made me want it even more. I wanted the high that other people were experiencing in their FR-S'es.

I kept trying to talk myself outta it. "Jared, it's not the best time to buy right now...finances...just wait..."

MY LOGIC: It kicks in and tells me to be patient and wait for a BRZ-L to arrive (dat interior!). It reminds me that 2014 will possibly have bigger and better. It chastises me that these things will saturate LA/OC within the next two years. "Just wait," Logic insists.

BUT MY EMOTION: It tells me to go have fun NOW. To go out and seize that HOT LAVA color I fell in love with. That I was lucky enough to put a deposit on. To enjoy the Car in this moment, while I have the chance. Emotion growls, "Go ahead. CARPE DIEM. I dare ya." :party0030:

Sorry guys, I just had to get that off my chest. So let's hear it, for those that are impulse buying as well, what moved you to take the plunge?

Pscylo 06-21-2012 05:57 AM

Grats =p

I tend to live on impulse anyways, but I've been waiting for this car. Signed all the paperwork before I even saw it in person. Although, they had pictures of a blue one (Mattle's, I am pretty sure, since he was the only other person in the area with one when I got mine).

The sales guy kept trying to sell me on it, I had to explain, just like I did with the Navy recruiter....I am here because I want to sign whatever you have for me to sign to get it.

The rumors are Hot Lava is going away, so you need to act now on it!

lol

Mine was pretty much an impulse buy as well. Kept thinking "It's a cool car. But I don't really feel like giving up my Evo."

Then my friends mom (a manager at the dealer I got it from), who I had jokingly told I'd get it if they got the Firestorm in MT, called me and said one of their first cars was going to be exactly that. Next thing I know was signing paperwork for my trade in and purchasing the car a month before they were even going to receive it. lol Good times.

Thank you! That is EXACTLY the reason that pushed me over the edge!

I wanted the car the moment it was announced. I'd replaced my 17 year old Mazda MX-3 (under duress, but the MX-3 was trashed) with a completely unsatisfying Scion tC in 2009. I had planned on replacing the Mazda with a similar little sports coupe... and got a nasty shock when I found there was nothing like it available. I bought the tC based on price and features but never loved it. The FR-S was exactly what I wanted.

The impulse came in a month ago. I had initially planned on keeping the tC until it was paid off in two years and then trading it on an FR-S in 2014. After talking with the dealer and realizing that I was going to get more than I owed on the tC as a trade now, I put a deposit on the FR-S and picked it up on May 31st.

Stopped in to my local dealer on 6/9/12, just to see if they had one to look at. They only got one, and it was a Hot Lava AT. Took a test drive, and immediately traded in my CR-Z. Didn't really plan on that happening, but I fell in love with the car, color, everything about it.

Xdragonxb0i 06-21-2012 01:08 PM

did you trade in your old car?

I was debating on it, but ultimately decided I keep the xB. For one, it's wayyy too practical. I can fit 3 surfboards and 3 guys at the same time. Not too sure I can do that with my FR-S. :] Also, after I heard they're discontinuing the xB I just couldn't bear to part with the sentiment.

Carpe Diem sounds great until you receive your 1st car payment... lol.

Lol...I know, right? That's why I have my payments automatically deducted from my payroll each paycheck. Outta sight; outta mind. ;)

I'm very frugal and very disciplined when it comes to finances. I don't impulse buy-- i let it burn inside me and drive me crazy until the fateful day when i'm finally able to get what i want with minimal remorse.

Almost the same unless its something I really/need want in which case I still do proper research and see what I can get!

slickdeals FTW!

Around this time last year, I had already planned on getting a new car the summer of 2012. My search landed on this beautiful Toyota/Subaru love child and it was set in my mind that it would be the car I get. Around the beginning of this year, I was looking at my finances and other priorities in life and I figured I could save alot of money getting something else because I didn't NEED an awesome sports car. I figured, I'd just go with an xB because I like the practical space. What set me over the edge was a conversation with a friend who was set on getting the BRZ. It got me thinking about the FR-S again..daydreaming about us rolling around town together, twins on the road. I was like eff it, when am I ever going to get this opportunity to be part of the start of something big in the car world again? Haven't looked back since. :)

You can say that again...

Mine was only a half impulse buy. I was looking for a new car but had intended to just test drive the FR-S and then do some research. I was doomed, though, when my local dealer ended up having the exact color and transmission I would have wanted :) I was the first one who wanted MT, everyone else was looking for AT.

No regrets... not even a tiny one.

It could have been ours, actually. What dealer was it?

mike2100 06-21-2012 09:49 PM

It felt like an impulse buy but I've been following this car from the beginning. My wife actually pushed me over the edge to buy it. I was on the dealer's call list to let me know as soon as they got one in. I got the call on June 2nd, went there and test drove it and bought it that night.

Nevermore 06-22-2012 12:03 AM

I suppose you could call this an impulse buy for me. I'm 23, living at home with my parents as a college grad just trying to get a better job to afford moving out on my own (which by the, reading a lot of the stories on here I feel severely behind on my life because of all the people younger than me doing a lot better haha) and I didn't necessarily need a new car. I wanted a new car. The only reason I could even think of getting a brand new car, not another used car, was because my dad works at Toyota. I was looking mostly at the Scions because, to be honest, I didn't want a Corolla. I was thinking about the xD for a while because it was the cheapest but I kept flip-flopping on the idea because my current car was having issues and I wanted to make sure it ran flawlessly before I sold it to keep the value higher.

I will admit I didn't know about the FR-S until a few months ago and I know I loved it the instant I saw the teasing picture on Scion's website but I swore up and down to myself it wouldn't be affordable but then I saw the price and I pounced. Something more affordable would've been a better idea because of student loans, but I really wanted this car. I went for it. And I'm a frugal person by nature too.

Pscylo 06-22-2012 12:29 AM

Oh ya, they did say a company had one too...Didnt know you guys had an ultramarine too.

Was from Big 2 Toyota/Scion

Well, I did it. Car finally arrived at the Dealer, and I got to pick her up today. There's a sense of relief somewhere, that I think can only be quelled by driving this thing... hard.

For those of you local, I bought this thing at Power Toyota of Cerritos. I can't speak enough of praise of my Sales Associate: Michael Quezada. I highly recommend you call him and work with him. He gladly attached my name to the Hot Lava FR-S, even without an $500 deposit. Never pushed me on accessories, and kept constant and honest communication throughout the grueling wait from port to delivery. Totally Legit. Tell him "Jared" sent ya.

My Finance Manager, however, was a real hardballer. And in the end, he managed to convince me to get 7 year paint protection via Perma Plate Warranty ($350) and 5 year ding coverage ($500). Actually, he didn't have do do most of the selling; I convinced myself. ($15 extra a month to quell my OCD? Sure, why not.) Dat color, man. I swear. I'd do anything to preserve it's luster! (I know, I'm a sucker. -____-)

Anyways, I couldn't be happier. It a strange way, it's surreal. I surprise myself every time I walk by and check it out, thinking to myself: "This thing is actually...mine?"

Presenting... "SUMMER of 86"
