2016 Scion FR-S -- official feature page

Here is the link to the official 2016 Scion FR-S "build-it" page (at Scion):

http://www.scion.com/cars/FR-S2016/index.html

Apparently now available. Some changes in colors are apparent, with the new red being especially nice ("Ablaze").

The page actually looks very attracting and nice.

Pretty sure I can tell the target demographic though.

And what the hell is this supposed to mean?
FRONT-ROW SOUND
WITHOUT EVER LEAVING THE DRIVER'S SEAT

strat61caster 08-12-2015 05:30 PM

Wow, $26.1k, glad that's with the delivery fee and such, seems like it creeps up a couple hundred bucks per year...

Tromatic 08-12-2015 05:40 PM

Forkin' LOL. Not one real improvement, just more shiny. Half this forum is trying to figure out how to trade a 15 right now.

So? Could buy a house for that, or an old supercar.

How about a Luxury car powered by a V12 instead of a puny four-banger?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-Ben...m=311410393989

If you want a light (under 3,000 lbs), new, mass produced, RWD, coupe for under $50k there is no alternative.

continuecrushing 08-12-2015 05:57 PM

Wait, I just checked the page and saw this? When I went to the colors and then back to the spec page, this info was gone. Possible slip up from Scion/Toyota? I wonder if there's more in store for 2016 than we know?

Slap some slicks and a turbo on an NA Miata and blow 'em both out of the water and save ten grand or more.

If the fastest laptime per dollar is what you crave neither car is the best option, if you want the fastest car without changing anything off the showroom floor then you won't have much competition in the real world, too many people would rather cover the deficiencies and introduce a bunch of variables.

As for upset, I'm pretty happy. I think I bought one of the most fun cars money can buy, if I had more I'd try some more cars out and be positive, but for me a Mustang doesn't even enter the top 50.

He will probably tell you there is no such model as a Miata 1989

Edit well I was close

why? 08-12-2015 07:04 PM

hah, good editing skills. And then someone will say this is why no one knows anything at all about the 2016 BRZ, it is like it is totally disappeared.

To late Why. I saw your first post.

Happily waiting on the special release version. I would love another reindition of the monogram.

I'd say our depreciation is right there with it.

I once owned the V8 version of that car. Everyone should, once. There's nothing like cruising at triple digits in utter silence and stability. Wretched excess and you'll help support your local M-B mech's lifestyle, but they're worth the experience. I can't imagine the V-12TT and for the price, it might be worth buying and running for a few months and selling for a profit before the ABC pump leaks.

Thanks for the link, actually thinking of sniping it.

Edit: Found a newer CL63 AMG for not much more. Talk about depreciation, the local car cratered almost $100K in five years.

Rampage 08-12-2015 08:34 PM

The 2016 MX-5 is out. They should have used that for comparison on the competitor page.. Oh wait, maybe not.

Notice how they leave off the weight comparison only against the Miata lol way to cherry pic specs scion.

hur1ey02 08-12-2015 09:19 PM

that steel color, though. A darker metallic silvery grey? love it.

scr1ptz 08-12-2015 10:17 PM

but.. but.. I love my 2016. =(
Don't hate on the new guy c'mawwn !

stevesnj 08-12-2015 10:25 PM

That has been on the Scion site for a month and a half. Though you did have to choose "other models" to get to the build page.

Those 2.5L turbo numbers at 254hp and 231 TQ are very interesting as Subaru doesn't sell a 2.5L turbo in anything other than the STi in North America.

The 2.0L turbo has 268/258 in the WRX, and 250/258 in the forester. Even if it was a mistake I have no idea where they could have gotten those specific numbers based on the current engines available?

Very interesting indeed. I have said for a while that there's no way the WRX STI was going to continue on with the old EJ 2.5 turbo forever and Subaru was probably working on a FA25DIT for that car. I would have expected a NA FA25 for the Twins but a detuned turbo could be a possibility I guess. On paper it's still less powerful than a WRX but adds a much needed 80 pound feet of torque in a significantly lighter RWD vehicle.

I'm highly skeptical but could be good for the vocal "moar powa" minority.

I still won't believe it until there's an official announcement but TRD was testing a turbo "project" car last year:

Nah. I like the FR-S better. However, some the stats they chose to compare like gas mileage for example? They won't want to talk about that any more.

True, but you can't give away old Mustangs around here (fortunately they fall apart beforehand compared to their Japanese cousins).

You almost had me believing but then I saw it still had an 86x86 bore/stroke, a 12.5:1 compression ratio (impossible for turbo with normal fuel), and "Available AWD" ...Yeah, not happening. LOL

DAEMANO 08-12-2015 11:47 PM

1. The cached version from both 08/08 and 08/11 were the same as today.

08/08 - The Googz
http://webcache.googleusercontent.co...gbv=1&&ct=clnk

08/11 - Teh Bingz
http://cc.bingj.com/cache.aspx?q=htt...3S79BRCLCt6eAw

2. The HP and Torque peaks are at exactly the same RPM NA and Turbo. Not likely.

Sorry but...

FAKE

You should tell that to Vortech, Jackson Racing and Works, might make them rethink their product before they end up in a world of hurt for blowing up hundreds of motors...

Hmm... well, I guess it's not impossible but I thought that majorly increased chance of knock and other problems without special fuels.

Packofcrows 08-13-2015 01:13 AM

OMG OMG Anyone see the V8 version? Twin turbo version? I reloaded guys and then it disappeared. 350hp with 300tq and 30mpg/town 44 HWY!!!

Impureclient 08-13-2015 01:26 AM

I reloaded the page and the 2017 model came up and it only showed 247 HP and 225 TQ? So they are dropping the power after 2016?

Don't forget SkyActiv runs at 14:1 on pump gas, I was taught in school that 13:1 was the ceiling pretty much within months of SkyActiv coming out. Modern computer controls, analysis tools, and DI systems are quickly opening up new possibilities.

Weell you see Mr Tcoat, the slogan attempts to indicate that it's like being in the front row of a concert without ever having to leave the comfort of your mode of transportation.

There is an option for TRD Alloy Wheels and all-season tires (at least in the Southeast region, which is sometimes different than the rest of the US). Stupid expensive though, and not much better than the standard wheels.
