Morimoto Retro-Quik Xenon Retrofit System for FR-S

TRS released this just a few minutes ago for anyone interested in a retrofit. http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...roducts_id=254

mines13 06-20-2012 05:56 PM

Going to get a ton of thanks for this. Nice find.

empower-auto 06-20-2012 06:32 PM

That's REALLY nice. Is it as easy as removing the headlight housings, removing the projectors and swapping in the new ones?

Calidrifter 06-20-2012 06:37 PM

If only that meant the end to all the bickering going on.

Lil Abner 06-20-2012 06:44 PM

That's funny they posted that! I called them at 5:00pm and asked them about it!

colHolm 06-20-2012 06:52 PM

I've been working with them on this... I was going to start a thread to keep everyone updated but then I saw this one! I'll post all the updates as I get them here.

My only issue is they told me it was going to be the Mini H1 projector. I'd prefer them to do a low beam only projector, and not a bi-xenon! I guess I'll have to do my own retrofit.

waiting for someone to post a DIY using this kit

Sweet! I still have my Minis from a TRS group buy on Tacoma world.

For those of you interested, they have group buys going on all the time.

MmmHamSandwich 06-20-2012 07:57 PM

Finally I can slap HID's in my 2012 FR-S!

This is the cutoff from the Morimoto Mini projectors the kit will use. As you can see, it makes the drop in ricer kits look like a joke.

After installation. Don't want Bi-Xenons? Don't hook up the solenoid. :)

Soooo much better than the PnP kits. Thank you so much for the quick turnaround with these. Hopefully people will understand the difference between retrofit and plug and play now.

lordtakuban 06-21-2012 09:49 AM

What all is involved with installation of this kit? Does anyone have pics of all the stuff that comes in the box as well as post-installation pics of the installed lights?

Basically, once you open your headlights, you'll have some very minor trimming and then everything bolts into the factory holes.

No one has pictures of everything included as we literally finished it this morning about an hour ago.

I posted pictures of the projectors installed and the output. Were there other pictures you're looking for? It looks completely factory on the car so a picture of the installed headlights would look identical to before.

Ahh... I see. I didn't know that the pic you showed of the headlight casing was the completed install. Very well done then. I wanted to avoid lots of excess wires in the engine bay and all that. It looks like your kit will work just fine.

Thanks for the explanation (and for producing the kit).

It's our pleasure. I giggle a bit when someone asks of a completed install specifically because of how OEM it looks. It's VERY difficult to discern between the two unless you look at these projectors all day every day like we do here.

Cheers!

Andrew, it was a pleasure working with you guys. The quality of the light output is a huge improvement over the stock projector or stock projector w/ a PnP HID kit.

I've got to say, your excellent customer service reputation is well deserved.

And the quick turnaround!!! Damn!

I can't wait til my kit shows up :party0030:

Thank you Colin. We really appreciate your help here!

Lee358 06-21-2012 10:32 AM

I agree trs customer service is amazing as i said before ive done a retrofit and they were there every step of the way for any questions!

Dave-ROR 06-21-2012 10:35 AM

TRS makes nice stuff.

Compare the output of these to that PnP kit Darren used and it's beyond obvious why the rest of us were talking smack about his PnP setup.

Andrew @ TRS 06-21-2012 10:37 AM

To encourage you FR-S guys and gals to do this the right way, we're offering a limited-time promotion:25% off.

That's right, 25% off of your FR-S Retro-Quik kit using coupon code TRSFRSFTW. ONLY the FR-S kit applies for this.

This coupon cannot be combined with any other discounts.

Dave-ROR 06-21-2012 10:44 AM

Andrew: Post a new thread in the commercial Classifieds section with the sale info, pics, etc.

Thanks

Andrew @ TRS 06-21-2012 10:49 AM

Done. Thanks Dave.

MattR 06-22-2012 09:52 AM

Andrew, I'm not highly familiar with color temp as it relates to HID bulbs. What temp do you recommend for someone wanting the brightest white they can get without dipping into the blue color spectrum? Thanks.

A quick google image search seems to favor the 5000k bulb but I thought I'd ask your opinion.

Andrew @ TRS 06-22-2012 09:54 AM

5000K is by far the most popular and is fluorescent white in color. I prefer 5K as well.
