intake systems
Looking into intake systems, any recommendations?
I was looking at this one Corsa® 185206 - PowerCore Closed Box Air Intake System http://www.carid.com/corsa-exhaust/p...pn-185206.html any thoughts? |
Save $280:
$60 Intake tube Amazon.com: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MZRJYNA/"]Amazon.com: Rev Motoring Silicone Intake Inlet Hose Scion Fr-s Subaru BRZ Extra Hose Delete: Automotive[/ame] $47 K&N filter [ame="http://www.amazon.com/33-2300-High-Performance-Replacement-Filter/dp/B000CO80OW/"]Amazon.com: K&N 33-2300 High Performance Replacement Air Filter: Automotive[/ame] |
And while you're at it, use google, put in "Site:ft86club.com intake" and use your mind brain to search the countless topics already made.
If you don't find an answer to your question, put it into the appropriate subforum, such as this one |

I have airaid.
it's got great reviews all over, its inexpensive and easy to install. you can purchase it on carID |
intakes for our cars are really just for looks
but if you want to go that route the Grimmspeed Intake is probably my favoirte Mishimoto is another intake but for the most part, just buy a drop in filter and call it a day |
I agree with WhiteFRS69 ....... just drop in a free-er flowing filter (like K&N) and call it good .....:)

I ran a drop in K&N filter at first. Seemed a noticeable difference just from that. Switched to an Injen intake and honestly its not much of a difference from the drop in.
|
No filter gives the most gains. Doesn't get any free-er flowing than that
|
I currently have the GReddy Intake, looks factory, but it's really a fancy airbox if you don't tune it. I would agree with a K&N drop in filter. If you have the money, an intake system to me just adds cool noises :)

In all seriousness you'll find that drop in with new intake tube is the best bet for intakes on the 86 platform. |
Seems like an intake would not be very beneficial. The more air volume that enters the intake more fuel will be needed. Pressurized cooler denser air would be noticeable rather than more volume of air entering.Would be interesting just for someone to make a device to increase air pressure without using a turbo or SC.

Stock air box is fine! Just add a K&N filter

jokes aside, unless u just don't like stock intake noise.
The intake tube alone will be good enough,u can feel it alone changes the throttle response @ high RPM. |
Hint : At a recient dyno day the guys with max hp naturally aspirated on petrol and E85 had stock intake (drop in filter and modded snorkel only) and stock catbacks ( rest of exhaust forward of catback changed)
Intakes and catbacks are for looks and sound very little hp in either |
Yeah I have the TRD intake and did nothing really, it does look nice under the hood :)

TRD intake sounds great and I felt better throttle response when stabbing the accelerator for downshift/rev match.

Unfortunately I put my Takeda intake & light pulleys on at the same time so couldn't tell which one made most of the difference, it was noticeable
I chose the Takeda after watching some comparative videos on YouTube. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeEpMsKWek0"]2013 Scion FR-S Intake: Takeda Dyno Test - YouTube[/ame] They compare quite a few others as well. Here is another one for the S2000 [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwNtjKT_1cA"]Cold Air Intakes Mythbusted [Naturally Aspirated] - YouTube[/ame] |
I have the TRD intake, so far I have been satisfied with the purchase.
You see them listen in the classifieds section from time to time too, easy to get one a little cheaper there. |
