Near Accidents/Misses

Its seems like since I've gotten my brz people have been gunning for me and trying to run me off the road. Since then I brought a dashcam to capture some the craziness. This one happened today on my way back from work a truck started to cut me off and left me with 2 choices gun it or slam on the brakes.

Fall of Troy FTW.

dbrandt01 07-29-2015 09:50 PM

Very close, I've had that happened to me only the truck waited til I was closer and didn't stop. I almost went under the trailer. I had the same reaction you did in the video.

If I had a dash cam, I'd have enough video for a 10 minute compilation. Living in a tourist area, the tourists are quite clueless. I'd had people make a u-turn in the middle of the hwy. I don't know how this makes sense when the speed limit is 55mph and they wait til you're almost there to go out in front. I've had people pull out in front of me from stores. I'd had texters almost run into the side of me or the back of me because they weren't paying attention. Even people that try to pass on a two lane road. Too many times have I played "chicken" with someone because there isn't enough room for them to pass or they pass too slow.

I've never been in a wreck and I'm not looking for it to happen, but I've had a ridiculous amount of close calls. I find out my horn works because it seems I'm using it everyday haha.

BRZnut 07-29-2015 09:52 PM

My wife and I make freq trips on 95 up and down the east coast and I swear people do not see us. Have DGM BRZ and stuff like what happened to you seems to happen more often than it should. Also like we have a cloaking device built in!

kerbal945 07-29-2015 10:05 PM

Who designed this highway? Why is there no on-ramp? Sure the truck driver is blind, but why do these roads even exist?!!?

yea I'm thinking of saving footage and making a compilation also lol. New Jersey easily as some of the worst drivers I drive with my guard up all the time

It's not really a highway more like a two lane road but yea you have cross two lanes of traffic to get to the other side and merge. Crazy thing is even if that truck crossed earlier it's trailer would still be in my lane cause the merge/divider area is not big enough. It really is a poorly designed area

kberkel 07-29-2015 11:14 PM

I've had some crazy occurrences that I wish were on video.

Not entirely innocent though.. Usually it's when everyone's moving in slow motion and I'm whizzing by at the speed limit.

Speed2th 07-29-2015 11:39 PM

God wants insurance to get you an new car

fridayfrs 07-29-2015 11:52 PM

Sphincter factor 10! Yikes!. Hope that won't be my experience. I agree NJ has some really bad roads and drivers. It's the only place I've ever come close to airborne at 35 mph.

Scenic Driver 07-30-2015 12:40 PM

I have had more near misses happen in NJ than I can remember, it didn't matter what car I was driving either.

murdoc 07-30-2015 12:56 PM

Car looks too fast, he thought you were already gone.

soulreapersteve 07-30-2015 06:25 PM

In my old Corolla, no dummy drivers or anything like that.

Since getting the FRS, I've probably had more buttpuckering moments than I can keep track of. Just this morning, an old lady almost rear ended me at a stop light. She swerved at the last second into almost another car's rear end...

ryoma 07-30-2015 06:36 PM

I also bought a dashcam in case anything happens. my town has mostly old people in it. before, I didn't really care but after I got rear-ended 2 times in the same spot, I started caring. thankfully it wasn't in my BRZ, but those accidents were basically what pushed me to sell my MR2 and buy the BRZ. frame damage both times. it was pretty stupid. though, I don't have a rear dashcam just a front one, lol. I couldn't justify spending almost $300 on a dual channel dash cam.

however, I do have a couple clips of shitty drivers and I plan on mashing them all together later on and uploading.

carma143 07-30-2015 07:53 PM

Where I live, people see my expensive-looking sports car and give me priority on the road. They'll pull over for me if they are going too slow, they'll let me be the first one to exit an intersection (even if they were the first to enter by up to 2 seconds) and on freeways I have never experienced someone cutting me off or coming too close to me.

I'm flabbergasted at how different other drivers act around me when I drive my parents' Toyota Highlander, where they'll not pull over for me if they are going too slow, they'll rarely cut me off at an intersection (even if I was the first to enter by up to 2 seconds) and on freeways my mom frequently experiences someone cutting her off or coming too close to her (I don't usaually go on the freeway in the Highlander).

BRZnut 07-30-2015 10:17 PM

Funny..I've noticed the same thing......increase courtesy from other drivers when I am in my BRZ. Thought it was just my imagination , but maybe not!

speedracer38 08-03-2015 05:17 PM

Is this close enough?

Soo many to even name. I don't even pull them off the SD card. I had a huge rock (little bit bigger then a softball) from a dump truck almost take out my radiator and nearly hit a biker behind me.

[ignore the MPH. It's actually showing kilometers per hour]

Wish I had a dash cam when the transport ran over and fired the lower control arm that was laying on the highway at me. Looked almost like that but unfortunately it didn't miss like the rock did.

Dude, you have to turn off that invisibility thing you apparently have going on.
I think that was more of a "oops my bad" embarrassment wave.

Just paste the Full YouTube URL not the shortened one (y2u.be) . Also I don't think the httpS works. Only http

krayzie 08-04-2015 10:27 PM

Had an 18 wheeler cut me off today and forced me onto opposite traffic. Either risk a head-on or I end up nailed under the transport. Fucking truck driver was listening to his headphones.

No real life Fast and the Furious?

18 wheelers, or anything higher than a Prius, is damn scary. I hate driving beside trucks.

Ganthrithor 08-05-2015 04:12 AM

Ummmm, not to rain on your parade or anything but you didn't significantly change your speed at all and if the truck driver hadn't slammed on his brakes they'd have been cleaning your leftover bits off the highway with a hose.

Obviously the truck driver is at fault there, but brakes would probably have been a better idea-- if you're going to hit something, at least hit it going slower. If someone had been behind you though, it would have sucked to have the truck stop in time but get into an accident anyway when the guy behind you stacks it into the back of your car :\

Yea figured the truck was not going to stop so even if I braked he would have hit me because of where the entrance is. And for the acceleration it was kinda those worst case scenarios in the torque dip, 6 gear, and A/C running I just got lucky lol.

Do keep in mind that most of these cameras have a wide lens and provide a much higher FOV than most cameras. This is for the purpose of showing more information to the right and left of the car so as to not miss anything. Unfortunately this also has the downside of skewing depth of field and can make things look much further than they really are.

I have dashcams on both my FRS and WRX and have had some minor close calls as well. I remember one time passing a black Mercury Moutaineer and as I got to the point where my front right fender crossed into their rear left fender they started to merge. Obviously they neglected to check their blindspot but once they started moving into my lane they finally looked over and went back into their lane. I honked my horn and sped past them to avoid any further interactions with that driver. Once I got home and took a look at the footage it was very deceiving in that it looked like they were merging much further ahead of my car than they really were. My wife and I decided to do an experiment. I had the car parked and she was outside taking direction as I told her to stand in the spot that the car was trying to merge at. She almost made it to where the side view mirror was at when I told her to stop and that was where the car's rear tail light would have merged into me. It's just deceiving how far everything looks in video with wide FOV lenses. Mine has a 170 degree of FOV and makes everything look much further than they really are.
