i went and did it, i'm one of you guys now.

so the job gods smiled upon me and i finally was put in a position to afford a new car and after much deliberating and hand wringing and test driving a bmw 228i, renting and then testing an ecoboost mustang and test driving an frs and also 3 different brz's - i went to my local subie dealer when i got off work and got an amazing deal on a silver brz that they had in the lot.

my plans: install the eibach prokits (that i'd already bought) and then leave the damn thing alone and enjoy the hell out of driving it.

pictures: its almost 10 o clock so.. maybe another day.

May I ask how much the car was before tax, title and licensing? I'm waiting for a 2016... but I heard they aren't going to be available until October. :(

jsquared 07-26-2015 10:07 AM

Congrats!

svtfever 07-26-2015 02:33 PM

what were your thoughts on the ecoboost?

ntron1 07-26-2015 06:05 PM

Nope, not yet. You'll be one of us when the Crickets arrive.

they took 3 off msrp. i couldn't wait any longer either even though a backup cam would be cool and my first choice color was white, but silver really does look nice.

the ecoboost was a bigger car, still athletic but it definitely feels bigger. there's more bells and whistles on it, the premium had cooled seats, the infotainment screen was fancier, it does feel a nit more 'premium' inside for whatever thats worth to ya.

but! two things i couldn't get over:

1) the engine's power curve really kick your ass at like 2500, but you can feel it get short on breath even at 5500, so its a little anticlimactic to rev it out. so though its much more powerful and faster in every relevant metric than the brz, it doesn't 'feel' as fast.

2) it just couldn't match the 'fun' factor of the brz, with the perfectly weighted steering, seating position, and just that it feels like a small and light sports car.

the ecoboost would be a nice compromise car, but i thankfully had the ability to keep my old 05 civic as a dd, to cart the little one around and fit things in and use the brz for fun driving.

got the pro kit installed this morning. now on to the 'drive and enjoy' phase. she sure induces a lot of grins per mile.

"i'm one of you guys now"
What? You were a different person before you bought the car but then you morphed into a pre-existing person already on this forum?

perryair 08-05-2015 10:24 AM

there she is in her slightly dropped glory.
