Don't lock your pet in your 86!

An owner in Saugus, MA...please don't lock your pet in your 86...it's hot enough for a human after 20 minutes parked in the sun. Sad...

and it could be my car's color, but it gets disgustingly hot in that thing. i literally wear gloves for a few minutes after getting in because the steering wheel is so damn hot.

You're basically leaving them in the an oven. Don't do it.

lupindub 07-23-2015 10:56 AM

Believe it or not, if you live in Tennessee, ANYBODY is legally allowed to break into a a locked car with an animal trapped inside.

Wall-Mart.

/thread.

On the other end of the spectrum: a friend that I've gone to school with my whole life was studying to be a vet after high school. One day she stopped at the local mall to meet her sister for lunch. Her beloved old Blue Heeler was in her Suburban with her. She rolled ALL of the windows half down and hung shade towels in each one. After a nice 1/2hr lunch, she returned to find her pet gone with apparently no explanation. After sobbing on the phone to her Dad for an hour, she climbed into her car to drive away, and noticed a tiny post-it note under her wiper blade. From the Humane Society. With what amounted to a ransom note. Some "good Samaritan" had reported it. Her poor old dog was terrified at the Humane Society and she had to pay to get him back.

My takeaway is that when it comes to pets, people on both sides can lack common sense. :(

I hope he fucking gets fined up the ass for doing that. There are very few things that piss me off, and this is one of them.

Poor doggy :(

Most definitely lack of sense on both sides, I've come out to my running car to have someone threatening to break the windows to get the dog out. No you dumbshit, my dog is perfectly fine, the vehicle is running and the AC is clearly set on 65...

8R6 07-23-2015 12:23 PM

why do fucks like them even own pets to begin with if theyre gonna be doing stupid shit like that?! the penalty for anybody that leaves their pet in the car should be locking them inside a car outside in the sun.

No joke. Of course I made it worse on myself with a Raceseng shift knob and lockout. Those things get hot in the heat!

Both are in the wrong in that instance - your friend shouldn't have left an animal in an unattended vehicle.

Ditto.

I bet all the onlookers were taking selfless and videos instead of taking a brick to the window to save the dog.

SisterBlue22 07-23-2015 02:45 PM

Sadly, here in Arizona, more than a handful of babies and children die from being left in cars every year, either because they were forgotten, or because the "parent" had something important to do and didn't bother to get a sitter. These "important" things have ranged from working their shift at the "club", to job interviews, to gambling for hours at the casino, all while their kids roasted to death in the car. Summer temps often reach 115+, and even in the spring and fall can easily be over 100. It's disgusting how ignorant people can be.

torqdork 07-23-2015 02:54 PM

Makes my blood boil.

There are exceptions to leaving a pet in the car, though. I'm not sure about other makes, but the Toyota Smart Entry/Smart Start system like on a 10 Series allows the driver to exit the car with everything running and then lock the doors with the metal key embedded in the fob.

I've done it on a Prius. When I came out of the store, some woman was ready to break out a window to "save" my dog that she thought was in distress. He was just excited to have someone talking to him through the closed window. I understood her confusion, it was a hot day and the car was silent with it's electrically driven HVAC system. I thanked her for watching out for situations like that after she dropped the rock.

Disagree. You should never leave a pet or a child unattended in a car under any circumstances. Plan your stuff out or don't take your pet with you.

Why? You noticed that I only said "pet", right?

My dogs can't drive or accidentally knock the car into gear, and the alarm would sound if a window were broken and/or door opened without the key. I'm never more than 50' away.

I've done this since the first Toyota Smart Entry car I owned in 2004 and it's worked well for brief stops at the farmer's market and post office while my dogs relax in air conditioned comfort. For other stops without service dog restrictions like Home Depot where everyone knows him, he goes in with me.

Aren't service dogs always exempt? I.e., you can take them indoors everywhere by law.

continuecrushing 07-23-2015 05:12 PM

guys, also don't microwave babies to dry them off after they take a bath by themselves.

Its not good for them long term.

Not sure, my dogs aren't service dogs. They have the usual Spitz baggage and only listen to me when they feel like it.

GhostRai 07-23-2015 06:37 PM

I actually once decided to wait in the car for about 5-10 minutes in a car that had been sitting in the sun all day with the windows up and everything... it was seriously hot and I at least had the choice of getting out if I wanted to. I don't know how many of you guys have done this (either by choice or just waiting) but a fully closed up car without any air circulation and leather seats... just... hot.

Quentin 07-24-2015 03:11 AM

This is why we have a cat. Dogs may as well be children with all the upkeep.

i know in this video, these poeple might be actors, but it still show the point of leaving something that live into a closed car is VERY dangerous.

when i was younger i leaved a plastic car toy in the car of my uncle and at the end of the day, the car was melted...just to let poeple know.

Most humans lives are worth less than a dogs life. Some of the finest people I have ever met had four legs.

If I have my dog with me and i have to get out, I park next to grassy area (if i can) and tie her to the hand brake with a 20ft of 550 cord. I usually keep a frisbee in the car an pour some water in it. She hangs out next to the car, has water and I can lock the doors.

Kiske 08-02-2015 03:20 AM

I'm all for the pets and taking care of them but this 'issue' has brought out some seriously self-rightous people.

I was sitting in my car while the GF ran inside a CVS to grab some stuff. In the adjacent parking spot some guy had just picked up his dog from the groomers next door. He puts the dog in the dog in his truck and hops in. After a few seconds, he hops out and ran back into the groomers. He was gone maybe 1-2 minutes. In this time a woman walking into the pharmacy sees the dog in the car and looses her mind. On the phone and screaming. She see's me watching her and decides the drag me into it. The owner comes out and she's one step away from assulting this guy. Poor bastard is shocked, just taking her abuse...

Turns out he had paid for his dog's hair cut and left his wallet on the register. After the screaming match had drawn a nice sized crowd a rent-a-cop showed up to assess the situation. By the time he showed up the dog was sitting on the curb and a few of the girls were giving it water. The GF finally finishes up getting her meds and comes out looking at me. At this point I'm laughing. I get out of the car and explain to her what is going on, and how long the dog was actually in the vehicle. She is shocked and the cop is looking at me with a blank stare. "You people are all jack asses, complaining about a dog left in a car for less than 2 minutes! Hell, she (points at GF) left me in the car for almost 20 minutes!"

Yes, I agree that we shouldn't leave our pet in any kind of vehicle. I just got a bulldog a few months ago, and whenever we turn off all the lights at home, he started barking. Then, I found this article ( https://ourfitpets.com/behavior/shou...g-in-the-dark/ ) that says maybe my dog is afraid of the dark. Since then, we are using lightbulb sensors. All in all, pets are more sensitive and innocent, and they need more care as compared to humans.

Tcoat 05-27-2019 09:42 AM

I have had a spider locked in my car for over a year now. He is the survivor of thousands that were born there and is doing just fine. Not sure what he eats but he pops up from under my windshield trim every now and then just to say hi. His name is Harry.

Seven "me too" posts in half an hour early this morning, all on old or obscure threads. How long before the spam post?

In fairness to Extra we see a pile of spam on here sometimes and your posts followed all of the standard "spam" formats.
I however ruled out spam since your statements actually made sense in the context of the threads which the bots just don't do well. Yet..

Posting comments in two threads by that other new guy who came in here just to get people to click into his instagram was the red flag for me.
Some new girl member did the same thing by coming in here with the intention of getting people to click into her instagram.

 Thank you. Do people also comment with bots (software)? I don't have much knowledge about this. But thanks again for removing the tag of spam from my name. I want to be there for a long time. :) Hopefully, you guys will never mind :party0030:
