Complimented on my FR-S

I have been given nice compliments about my FR-S. But not much so by younger people. Most were by those who actually were older, 50s, 60s in age, saying "Nice car", "Beautiful car."

I'm not young myself, so when an older person recognizes my little ol' Scion sports car as being nice, it puts a smile on my face. :D

steeloyangster 07-20-2015 09:54 PM

I don't get that many compliments on my FRS which is strange but maybe because it's Argento (Silver) and not something that stands out more. The ones that I do get are really funny or much deeper than a one liner such as, "Hey, nice car."

I remember parking my car and once I got out I heard some tires coming to a screeching halt. Then I heard someone yelling. I didn't think it pertained to me so I didn't look immediately but my wife got my attention and said that someone's probably trying to talk to me. I turned to see someone in a Civic Si (Late 2000's model) shouting "Hey man, I LOVE YOUR CAR! That's my dream car right there!" I replied with "Let's trade sometime but you gotta take the payments with you!" I heard him rip up the e-brake and step out. "Here you go!" I chuckled and gave him the thumbs up.

Another time I got complimented was at a gas station when an NB Miata pulled in to pump some gas. I was leaned up against the car and turned to him to say "I love that generation Miata." He then went to say that he really wants to get an FRS sometime in the near future. This ended up in us having about a thirty minute conversation on why I chose the FRS over the BRZ and me asking him if he had seen the new Miatas. Car people are awesome.

Even though this car is aimed toward the younger demo. it's apparent that it has captured the old school longing of rear wheel drive to those of us who only drove/had them. That is the top reason I got this car. It's just a joy to drive.

Been weeks since there was a good one and tension is mounting.

I get more compliments on my 10 Series (Silver Ignition) than I ever did in my whiteout.

Multiply that by 10 now that I have nice wheels.

kevman_101 07-21-2015 03:13 PM

Get your rain coats and ponchos out people. It`s about to rain.

It's true. I don't know why. I always thought a pearl white looked 10x better. Granted Silver ignition has grown on mea lot more now that I own one and I prefer it to the white personally.. but generally people go apeshit over a nice pearl white which is why its suprising to me that everyone likes my 10 series better.

I get compliments by all age groups. But then again my car is red. A civic tried to race me. (EM model)

There is at least a 10:1 male to female ratio on compliments about my car. The vast majority of of men complimenting my car end their sentence in "brah!"

Though, I guess compliments about my car from guys is far better than dudes in their lifted pickups flooring it to come check me out, thinking I was a girl in my first car - a bright red neon sxt...in New Jersey...by the beach...in the summer...

I buy Toyota and Scion cars with that said your correct about the "old guys" liking this car. The FR-S /GT86 is like the cars from the good old days that are small, rwd, and fun to drive.

I get break neck looks all of the time and people talking to me about my ride.

My complement ratio is close to 50:50 with a possible small margin leaning toward female commenters.
Again just gonna put this here...

Wait until they stop making these cars and you will start to get more and more compliments as they become less frequent etc...

I said "old school" not "old guys". How dare you!!! :mad0260: jk

Shady195 07-22-2015 11:54 AM

I get a lot of older guys checking out the car, get the thumbs up all the time.

Random girls wont come up and say anything unless im say at a car meet, however its quite entertaining when a girl grills me and my car when her boyfriends with them and they get all pissy because she likes it better than his mustang/camaro/civic etc..

Silk8668 07-22-2015 05:19 PM

DAMN, Look at all the Haters, That tells me that 80% or more of the people on here don't even own a BRZ or Scion or it is totaled and your Jealous. I see a lot of people saying, Hey, I am about to get mine next Month, NO, YOUR NOT getting one. Your still driving Mom's 86 Yellow Pacer with Vinyl Wooden doors
Why the Hate? The dude is telling facts. HMMMMMMMMM. hahahaahaha

This was the best experience I've had so far.

I met my wife after work on Friday so we could test drive a Jaguar XE. I hit some traffic and arrived about 10 minutes later than she did. I parked next to her and I didn't see her since she was already touring the lot. She texted me and told me where to find her, so I got out and walked across the lot.

Just as I got near her, someone ran up behind me and said - I can't believe it! Is that what I think it is? I was kind of confused being at a Jag dealer but he was genuinely in awe over the tS.

There I am standing between a fully loaded F-Type and the XE and he says - I hope you aren't considering the F-Type. The BRZ handles so much better.

We chatted for about five minutes and went about test driving the XE. When we come back he had everyone outside checking out MY car. Then I find out he was not even our salesperson.

Our salesperson asked - is that the top Subaru model? I said nah... but it is the car I've always wanted.

That's an awesome experience! Great to see that there are still enthusiasts working at dealerships and not just sales people who actually know nothing about cars but how to sell them even if it is still the majority. I bet you left that lot with a big ole grin.

I've had the exact opposite experience. A middle aged man with his wife asked me about the car at a gas station and then proclaim "thats it?" when i told him the engine specs and when I told him the mods he said the "chips" don't do anything the exhaust is a fart cannon and the the air intake is a hot air intake. The guy was smug about it too and all my friends were like wtf?

It just depends who you meet.

He sounds like a complete knob. You have to ask yourself what type of person wanders around petrol stations criticising other people’s cars. Is that what he does for kicks on Saturday nights?

Yeah, dude at that pizza shop out of the blue said. "Drove my buddy's 86. They say its supposed to be good at cornering, but I didn't think it was very good." Went on to complain about the tires having no grip.

DarkPira7e 08-03-2020 10:51 AM

The only compliment on my car is "Looks fast! What are you doing to it?" when talking to mailman / neighbors / UPS if the garage door is open and they see it torn apart on jack stands..

Celica00 08-03-2020 01:44 PM

How to compliment my car and insult my passenger at the same time:

I was driving with a female friend when we drove up to a stoplight, windows down. A female driver pulled up on my passenger side, looked at my passenger and said to me "I'd look better in your car".

dnieves 08-03-2020 10:47 PM

Seven years on (in a couple of days) and I still get compliments from old people and kids.

little guy on his bike (like 10 maybe?) couldnt believe his eyes and shouted "Whoa, an FR-S!" as i passed by. best reaction because its just so pure?

didnt know these cars were that cool. imagine if he saw a p1 er something...

why? 08-04-2020 07:16 PM

Little kids love these cars. There is a little girl in my mothers neighborhood who cannot take her eyes off my car when I drop by.

i'd say, "but she's paying for dinner!"

Most people don’t know what my car is, except for other twin owners. Whenever I’ve tried to explain how it was a joint venture between Subaru and Toyota, it was sold as a Scion FRS until 2016, then as Toyota 86, also as the Subaru BRZ, people’s eyes start to glaze over. [emoji16][emoji1786]

I do the same now, it saves a lot of time. I figure they can research the car later if they want. [emoji6]

The twins do seem to attract attention though, from the wrong people usually. Dudes thinking I’m trying to race them, and dudes that park really close to my car. Thank you Mr. Accord Sport for leaving a nice dent in my passenger door tonight. [emoji849] I don’t drive aggressively, you just have to rev the heck out of the FA20 to not get killed in traffic around here. And I always try to park away from other people when possible. Leave my poor FR-S alone!!
