Templar's Old school retro BRZ

https://scontent.fymy1-2.fna.fbcdn.n...d5&oe=5B63F902

Hey all !

I've had this car for almost a year now, i've mostly been posting on the Facebook group FRS/BRZ Enthusiasts but I just realized I never introduced myself here.

I came up with this idea because I grew up in the 80s and always had a soft spot for sports cars of that time, but of course I was too young to own one... today I am trying to pay homage of the sports cars of that era with my BRZ.

Thanks & regards !
Jonathan

Thank you !! Really apreciated :) I am doing a DIY specific to those gauges because there's a lot different parts in this kit. There are 3 layers of gauge faces in total + metal rings + needle caps.

Oh neat!!! Good to see others getting into that market!! The one I got was in the same price ranged but I saved $250 by not getting the rings haha!!
Keep up the good work on your ride man!!

srizzors25 07-15-2015 05:44 PM

Wow this is very interesting, I was expecting to see something entirely different for wheels when I saw old school. Really embracing the 80's theme I totally dig it man. Nice work so far!

Higher Being 07-15-2015 06:05 PM

Those are some interesting wheels! I never considered a set of rotas till right now haha.

Refreshing take on the 86 sir!

Lonewolf 07-15-2015 07:27 PM

I'm usually not a fan of retro stuff...but you pulled it off!

Any plans for a tune?

Big thanks to everyone, wasn't expecting such a warm reception !!
With regards to exterior mods, I think I'm pretty much done... I mean, i've run out of ideas, which probably means it's time to stop (less is more, as they say) but performance wise, now that's a totally different matter :)

lol me neither at first ! but what I realized was that even if I wanted genuine wheels such as these, Tosco wheels are like 13" and the wheels that TRD made for the Speedhunter concept (picture below) well they never ended up releasing them. So I had to go with the Rotas, but even getting these Rotas was a real stroke of luck because from what I understand by talking with them, only a few sets of these have been made.

Yes eventually I would love to! It's definitely on the wishlist to maximize gains but i'm in no rush since the header is catted so I don't have a CEL on right now.

I don't have any right now (installed them yesterday and haven't had much time) but here are some pictures from the manufacturer, just keep in mind they might have been photoshopped a bit to enhance the colors.

I found them on craiglist (pure luck as I said) the seller told me he thinks they originate from SEMA 2013 where they were displayed on Wheeldude's FR-S but I'm not sure for certain. You could always try with them, but I've heard that communication with Rota / Wheeldude can be difficult.

No problem !! :) But why should they ? I mean, their wheels are legit, just not "original". They're not fakes or counterfeit.

Otherwise, why would Toyota put Rota wheels on six of their own retro-liveried GT86. Anyway, if they do have poor customer service its their loss... too bad for them.

I mean I wont throw stones from afar or anything, but I just don't particularly find it to be good practice to market something and claim its yours when you got the "idea" from a extremely similar very high quality product. And then also have sketchy customer support.

But then again here I am saying "wow, those look sick, would impulse buy" hahaha

Just not for me man, were all here cause we love our cars and yours is a very cool example of our particular model! Keep doing what you do!

you think you'd ever put springs or some sort of suspension on there? performance wise that's good stuff I understand if not, it really has that 80's camaro look to it with the bulky wheels and luvers sitting high off the ground

If i've thought about it, yes... many, many times and I've changed my mind more times than I can remember. It's a huge dilemma for me right now as I drive it all year (in Canadian winters) so I have 3 choices :

1- Drop it and raise it for winter (swap with a 2nd set stock struts and springs) + re-align wheels everytime. :bonk:

2- Buy a winter beater, which I should if i want to keep the BRZ clean as long as possible, but don't want to because who likes driving in a 1000$ car for 6 months right? + maintenance. Add to that the fact that BRZ being so much fun to drift around in the snow... so in the end i've decided to keep it stock, and comments I get from people is that it looks alright as it is but I'd lie if I said I didn't get as much comments to lower it :)

3- Drop it and drive it lowered by an inch or so (snow plower mod :P) but i'm pretty sure that if I don't scrap the front lip myself, then the snow & ice certainly will... lol

Thanks, I was told it also looks a lot like the Celias from the 70s :)

Sorry for the blurriness of some pictures, they were taken with a cellphone :bonk:

srizzors25 07-16-2015 01:45 PM

I've got a 2 inch drop and made it through winter here! Tossed some 16" wheels with decent snow tires and it seemed to do alright ha. Hills aren't great and ice just doesn't work. Got stuck on a couple mild inclines but that had nothing to do with the ride height. I think if I have to drive this dude in snow again I'd get studs lol

Then again, I have no idea what Quebec winters are like!

Nicely done. I've considered going down this path as my first car is a Starion... which pretty much screams 80s ahah. I don't know the thought still hasn't left my mind so it still maybe in my future. We'll just have to wait and see I suppose.
