Auto Express Car Reviews

Subaru’s new Coupe is go! The Japanese firm has confirmed that a concept version of its long-awaited Coupe, jointly developed with Toyota, will make its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. No pictures have yet been released, but our exclusive renderings give you an idea of how the newcomer will look.

What’s more, the firm has confirmed that the car will be built on an all-new platform, and while the Coupe will feature Subaru’s trademark horizontally-opposed boxer engine, it won’t get the firm’s symmetrical all wheel drive. Instead, like to Toyota model, it will be rear-drive, giving the firm a rival to Hyundai’s Genesis Coupe in the US market.

Subaru has also confirmed that it will show its new Impreza Concept, which was first seen at the LA Show last year, and the firm’s new Trezia model which is a B-segment MPV that’s essentially a rebadged version of Toyota’s forthcoming Verso-S.

O look what I was saying all along.. Same car diff badge and bumpers/fenders/lights :p

NESW20 01-14-2011 11:28 AM

if this turns out to be true, i'm going to run around with the largest "I TOLD YOU SO" sign you've ever seen on the internet. RWD > AWD for this car.

Shevon 01-14-2011 12:20 PM

Its about Damn time

Dark 01-14-2011 12:22 PM

Just bring it to the States, I will get one.

Nah nah, dun be a threat whore.

Infernal 01-14-2011 12:23 PM

nice news! though im pretty sure it will look nothing like that "rendering"

linkwpc 01-14-2011 12:24 PM

If this is going to a Subaru, it will be AWD right?

True. It will look smoother and sleeker that rendering. Rendering is like a put-together FT86 and Impreza Concept.

Dragonitti 01-14-2011 12:39 PM

Good info...MOOR...MOOR..

Kids Heart 01-14-2011 12:49 PM

2.0 Liter, yes!

NikostC 01-14-2011 01:26 PM

Maybe they will open the hood for this one. Can't wait!

dalli 01-14-2011 02:22 PM

Does this mean they will show the final version that will be in production?

Nope, they are only showing the concept.

OK, I cant wait for it.

Hopefully they have full specs on the spec sheet.

Shevon 01-14-2011 02:58 PM

Maybe just maybe toyota will show thier production ready car or something.

cyde01 01-14-2011 03:27 PM

woah. lots of news today. i never thought i'd say this but if the ft-86 is labeled a scion then i just might get the subie ver. totally depends on the cost and design tho.

Exactly + 1

djohnson 01-14-2011 04:07 PM

Possibility of the option to have the 2.0 STi motor from the factory on the Suby car? :party0038:

Hm... IDK, US haven't got new ver 2L STI engine. Last 2L was bugeye ver which was good, but still had lot of problems. We can only pray and hope for the best.

stevens8 01-14-2011 04:28 PM

Very good news. I hope its damn near the same as what the production model is gonna be. If they make a 2.0L turbo priced between 26k-29k and toyota's version is under scion badge I would probably go subie.

BootpTraphik 01-14-2011 06:04 PM

The car camouflage make the rear end look like a Corrado...

http://image.eurotuner.com/f/8179838...+back_view.jpg

lol, kinda. Cant wait for the full deets in March!

VenomRush 01-14-2011 06:44 PM

an actual release date? hmmmmm i might be leaning towards the subie version

If the subie version turns out to be a rwd corrado i will buy it and keep it forever. i love corrados but fwd sucks.

Those pics are just a test mule though. The final subie version will be an ft-86 with different front and rear facias.

Subie concept at geneva and production versions of both cars at Tokyo in the fall...I can't wait:party0030:

At the auto show in less than two months, but still no pics of the concept? We got to see pics of the FT-86 before it's offical debut... :sigh:

Turns out he is going to get a Toyota FT86 sometime from Oct-Nov 2011 to work over. It just happens that Toyota are wrapped they have someone who knows the flat 4 back to front and knowhow to maximise power. I'll leave it up to you guys to work out who this So-Cal garage might be. He said they will deliver the FT-86 with the FB motor. He is of the opinion it will come as a 2.5 liter it is likely to be the same spec as what's in the Forrester. His shop is likely to get 250-300hp out of NA and 450-500 hp out of blown.

Could be fun.

Sorry that I can not name him or his shop. He is a new friend and has no idea I will post.

So this mysterious So-Cal garage, knows a completely new, un-released flat-4 design, with many new and different technologies or components, 'back to front' already?

And you're taking as fact this information from someone you've just met?

Please elaborate/clarify/source this.

Genises Coupe?

DantKR 01-18-2011 05:12 PM

From all accounts it's supposed to be a fairly small car. The genesis coupe really isn't all THAT small. But yeah looks like a hash of the Genesis Coupe.

That's because it's a very old photoshop that is based off the genesis coupe. That top speed chop has nothing to do with the actual concept we will see in geneva 2011.

Expect a FT-86 with a subaru styled front end and possibly a hatchback rear end to differentiate the suby version from the toyota/scion.

cyde01 01-18-2011 07:15 PM

if the suby's a hatch then i'm definitely getting the suby over the scion. will have to wait and see..

This.

stevens8 01-19-2011 06:28 PM

Good. I was scared there for a second. If the subie version looks almost as good as the Toyota than I'd be happy.

Official Subaru Press Release

I received the official Annoucements from Subaru Switzerland today:

In german:

Quote:

In english:

Quote:

In the context of business collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation Subaru is currently developing a sports car with rear wheel drive. This vehicle is built on an entirely new floor and has a typical trademark of Subaru's core technology, the best boxer engine. The study brings Subaru's world renowned expertise in building cars with Boxer engines to the expression and also shows how the Japanese brand will us this experience in a vehicle reacted with rear-wheel drive, which gives a new, very attractive and also very Subaru-style driving experience. In this concept study Subaru's engineers will perfectly fit the existing boxer technology with a whole new floor pan.
My translation skills aren't perfect - sorry if some parts of the text sound strange.
Of course there were no pictures added to the press release :(

In summary no big news, just thought some of you'd like to read it anyways ;)

Dark 01-21-2011 02:38 PM

^^ Good info, but we have talked about that since the very first. This is a built-from-scratch model. Of course both car will use flat engine, but i guess is, it won't be from any existing engine from Subaru, or No?
