Letting spouse drive
I am sleepy while we are driving home from Vegas, so letting my wife drive us in my BRZ for a shift. Please say a prayer for me.
How do you guys feel about letting your spouse drive your baby for the first time? Fear and trepidation? Or no biggie? |
In general with our cars, no biggie.
She's never learned a MT, so I don't have to make that choice with the 86! |
I swear that trying to teach someone to drive stick is putting your relationship to the test! My wife is capable of driving stick but prefers not to. Especially in town or in traffic conditions. She hasn't driven either the FRS or WRX but when we had our civic she was more than capable of getting around. It's just that she's kind of a klutz and regularly forgets where the gears are. I'm deathly afraid of her shifting into a much lower gear on the highway and overrevving the motor to death. One time in a parking lot she tried starting the car in 3rd gear and since then I haven't let her drive. I'm a terrible impatient husband.
|
My wife hates driving my car as she doesn't know how to take driveways at an angle and is afraid of scraping the front. She's used to our Outback and not worrying about speed bumps etc.

Letting spouse drive
I taught my wife in my 2001 Impreza 2.5RS before she ordered her MINI. She ordered her S with a 6MT and has driven it for over a decade.
Be understanding and teach your wife. Be patient. As an aside, my wife doesn't drive my FR-S often, but it was pretty sexy the few times she has. Sent from Tandy 400 |
I plan on teaching my wife how to drive manual in my car. If she destroys the clutch, it's still under warranty.
|
I would never let my wife drive my car but then again I dont have a wife so...
|
More likely she will grind the gears, pull up too close to a curb and scrape your bumper, squeeze into a parking space and get dinged on the door. Don't worry brah.
|
You'll be alright, taught my girlfriend on how to drive manual. One week later and a ruin clutch.. she's driving like a pro
|
My wife drives my car no problem. She just doesnt like it, says "she can feel every single amoeba on the road".
I even "made her" drive it half-way across the state to the track and back for me once. When she bought her Passat TDI, she specifically asked for MT and she drives it through the snow too. Ive even thought about getting her a vintage racecar, but I'm not sure I could handle being on the track with her (she might punt me off for something I cant even remember doing... :paddle: ) |
Well im lowered and if the wife drives ill be joining scrape-nation and she knows it lol so im the only one behind the wheel of the 86 lol

I wish I had a wife

My wife is a very careful and safe driver, I don't worry for the car. She often drives when I've had a few too many pints. Although I do prompt her to go faster through roundabouts and I find myself saying quite often "Don't embarrass the FR-S".
|
I let my "wife" steer all the time. My other hand is too busy shifting gears.

|
My soon to be fiancé is capable of driving stick with super vision but the way she regularly drives her chevy cruze scares the shit out of me. She had a 5th gen prelude before her cruze and I guess she still thinks she has a sporty car.

I am looking forward to having a better clutch in the car. |
Drive it? Hell, she won't even ride in it.
"It's too low I can't get in and out" "It's too small and we are going to get run over by a truck" "It's too bumpy" "It's too loud" "People are staring at me" (Not the car just her) "Slowdownslowdownslowdownslowdownaaaaaaggggghhhhhh whydidyoudothatwhydidyoudothatdon'tdoitagainletmeo utIamnotridinginthereagainslowdownslowdownohnorail roadtrackswearegoingtodiedon'tdothatletmeout" |

Do people really ruin clutches learning how to drive stick? It isn't rocket surgery.

I don't think she would be my wife if she couldn't drive stick... That being said, she drives it just fine and has never scraped the front.. She doesn't necessarily "like" driving it and doesn't very often, but I'm glad that she can.

When you are learning clutch sensitivity, you are doing 4 mph at 800rpm in a parking lot - you can be doing that for like 2 hours straight and it isn't going to do any damage at all. |
On long trips I def let the wife drive, and she does just fine :) Of course she actually taught me to drive manual so....... :D

I let her drive once. She said she could drive stick, We were stuck at a traffic light for 3 cycles before I said: Let me drive. I laughed my ass off. The 30 or so cars behind us were not amused though :P |
My wife is too worried about dinging the car to want to drive it...she has driven it though. She loves riding in it though with me driving!
|
My wife drove once, she made it to the edge of the parking lot and was like "Nope I can't do it, I'm going to wreck your baby." Since then she refuses to drive it. I've also lowered and boosted it so that probably is a factor.
She does have a massive smile when riding in it though. Loves getting a bit sideways. |
