Has anyone seen these Avant Garde's in person?

I'm on the search for wheels and Im looking for some middle ground between function and form.

http://www.avantgardewheels.com/imag...ilver-1000.jpg

I'd get 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 they also customize the offset to your exact preference. I still have to figure out what I'd need. Maybe +40 & +35

You can get these for around a grand. They're cast/fake-3-piece OZ futuras reps but like I said, around a grand.

I like the look and the semi dished effect and they shouldn't weigh more than 25lb/wheel.

I'm just kind of curious if anyone's seen them in person and can tell me if they looked like garbage or not. Haven't found a whole lot of info on them.

Thanks in advance.

*Disclaimer* no one cares if they're not your flavor.

I saw a set of 17 oz's and they looked good. I just didn't like how the guy painted them teal. I wonder how they look without the center cap.

I am looking for a set that look like rega masters. AG wheels have decent coating/painting from what I have seen. I would buy in silver.

Good info, thank you

And boy, do those wheels look good. I'd be way too scared to race on those lol.

Funny you mention teal though. I was kinda thinking about powder coating them some deep but brighter blue heh. White and light blue would be a good scheme I think.

i just received my set of m240 in 18x9 +30 and 18x9 +20

KevinK121 07-09-2015 01:02 AM

Well damn. Now I won't be the car in the directory ha.

How do you feel about them now that youve gotten them in front of you?

swarb 07-09-2015 05:19 AM

Whoever mounts them first! LOL

Can you take a pic without the center cover? and maybe the backside? You should weight it too!

KevinK121 07-09-2015 08:09 AM

Ah yes pls definitely weigh it. I had to call them yesterday and they couldn't tell me what they weigh.

He said given the offset there will be a change in the amount of material. Said it would be about 25 lbs.

NyC Zn6 07-09-2015 09:13 AM

at work right now but will definitely get pics of the wheels with no caps and the weight for you guys.

I wanted a set of OZ Futura but they broke the bank for me. I love the design of 5 star wheels(i'm old fashioned lol). I have a set of Nitto NeoGen 225/40/18 that will be coming in today so I should have the wheels mounted this weekend. I love the look of these wheels it gives off a late 80's to early 90's euro feel.

I definitely appreciate it. And so will so many other people who cant find the weight of these on other forums, haha.

I would love to powered coat them white but I think the silver will go well with silver ignition. Just a heads up these wheels are back ordered so it will take 1.5 to 2months to be shipped out. I ordered my wheels on 5/8/2015 and received it 6/25/2015.

Oh god so if I order now I might get them by this winter?

continuecrushing 07-09-2015 01:57 PM

no way! My buddy was JUST asking me about M240's and how he wants some this morning lol

8R6 07-09-2015 02:20 PM

those look good, but how are these wheels a middle ground between form AND function? these are show wheels...

Theyre not terribly heavy and theyre only one piece. And also fairly cheap/easy to fix.

Idk made sense in my head lol

Soooo they look good but theyre not really 3 piece and theyre cheap enough to not worry about them a whole terrible bunch and they're not godforsaken heavy either. I'd call that some form of middle ground.

8R6 07-09-2015 03:15 PM

i guess...

not knockin on your wheel choice. like i said, i think those are good looking wheels... but being that they're cast, straight replica of OZ's, those specs, and even the bolts are just for show, i just consider them "show wheels" thats all. regardless, post some pics once theyre on the car!

I hear ya and can easily see where you're coming from. No offense taken

Still not 100% on these but everything considered, it seems I could do worse for something to satisfy both goals in one set of wheels.

I ordered with FM Wheels and they are in constant contact with AG Wheels. I would call them and see when the next sets are coming in through AG. These weigh 23lbs per wheel for both offsets.

Avant Garde got a shipment in this week and are good in stock. All orders are made to fit and are drilled by Avant Garde.

What do you think the turn around would be at this point? Will you pm me what you're offering a staggered 18in set for? Shipped to Minneapolis.

Yes now that they are in stock place that order with FM wheels . they took care of me and they have great customer service

KevinK121 07-09-2015 04:18 PM

Heavily considering it at the moment

What made your decision of not wanting to go staggered? And if you dont mind, what was your logic on the offsets? Im not doubting or criticising, Im just new to the art of sizing wheels heh

NyC Zn6 07-09-2015 04:29 PM

I wanted a slightly aggressive setup (little poke) which is why I went 18x9 +30 and 18x9+20. The lower the offset the more it will poke out from the hub(away from the car). I wanted more lip in the front because the 18x8.5 has a smaller lip than the 18x9. I also wanted a close to square setup with 225/40/18 all around. Not saying you can't do that with staggered wheels but if I was going staggered I would definitely go with a wider tire in the rear.

Good food for thought. I know how offset works but I don't fully understand what spec equals desirable fitment. I tried poking around on the fitment calculator but it seemed flawed. I've looked through countless pics in the directory and it's often hard to tell the difference in set ups with up to 10mm of difference.

I think I'm going to play it on the more conservative side with the offset so I can space it if I want/ need to.

Thanks again for all the feedback and I look forward to seeing them mounted

Careful with your Avant Gardes, if you damage the paint they won't send out paint codes for you to get it repaired at a wheel facility, you have to ship them back or buy a new wheel. Learned that the hard way about Avant Garde wheels...

KevinK121 07-09-2015 11:54 PM

If I got these I'd powder coat them but that is good info regardless.

not sure if the fake bolts are plastic or metal. They may have to be removed before powder coating.

I was wondering if I could mask them or not.

I'd imagine or at least hope they're metal

You can pull them out with pliers, just be very careful or you can get replacements.

They're plastic, also note that the cap is plastic and can't be powder coated. Its easier to tape off around the bolts just paint the centers if you want to leave the lip polished.

KevinK121 07-10-2015 01:23 PM

Ah shit. Center can't be powdercoated, huh? I had a pretty particular color scheme in mind.
