They actually look really good.. I had my doubts before these pictures btw

thermobox 06-19-2012 10:41 AM

Those look great. Thanks for posting pics. I wish they were available in 17x8-9 for the rear.

cyde01 06-19-2012 02:23 PM

if you're really ballin they make those wheels in magnesium. suppposedly 12.8 lbs for a 17x8 F8. probably not 5x100 lug pattern though.

edit: apparently available in 5x100 and 5x114!!!!! with magnesium i'd be really flippin paranoid of hitting anything tho. curb rash would equal death for these rims.

ultra 06-19-2012 02:42 PM

Those wouldn't look half bad with just a minimal drop

Don't want to know what they'd cost though.

Edit: Holycrap! Same 86 GT is on the RS Watanabe home page LoL

I know Watanabes are like BBS price.

mines13 06-19-2012 03:10 PM

I was considering these, but if something happens replacement lead times are insane as they are made to order.

mickey177 06-19-2012 06:47 PM

I dont know if I am the first to ask but Wow is that an all carbon fiber body?I really hope it is not that fake decal stuff. Not so big on the wheels but love that carbon fiber body.

yeah, they are about the cost of BBS's. not worth it for me if you're planning on getting the aluminum versions as they aren't particularly light. on the other hand, the magnesium wheels are other worldy light. possibly the lightest 17s you can find. price for the magnesium wheels aren't that much more expensive than the aluminum either. they are stronger than aluminum and more resistant to bending, but once you bend them they're done. can't be fixed like aluminum wheels.

Those wheels look so right on a rally car with knobby tires!! Maybe not so much on a road car though...

mike2100 07-14-2012 09:32 PM

Nice throwback wheels.

Makes me want a Panda FR-S.

FT-86GOD 07-16-2012 06:37 AM

Watanabe is more suited to oldskool japanese cars but thats just IMO....... Needs to be negative offset atleast!!!

dori. 07-16-2012 08:13 AM

^that's just because of what's been shown to you in the past, but since this car has lines reminiscent of older cars like the 2000GT, I think it works

cyde01 07-16-2012 03:26 PM

as much as i love their eight spoke rims i think they look better on old school cars as well. they don't look quite the same at 17 inches, and their design severely limits caliper space. they were designed with 14 or 15 inch sizes and negative offsets in mind. i love the idea of getting an mg 17 inch though, but i also love the idea of being able to put on STI monoblock calipers...

anyone know a US/CAN distributor with a price?

Turbowned 07-16-2012 06:42 PM

It used to be Takumi Project but they went under. I'm not sure there is a U.S. distributor right now...

You could try this guy:
http://forums.club4ag.com/zerothread?id=66477

or RHDJapan.com, or Nengun.com:

Midnight Run 07-18-2012 05:43 AM

i am surprised they did not use 17x8.5 +35 for front and 17x9.5 +35 for rear.

The above mentioned sizes are available on their site.

track_warrior 07-18-2012 11:00 AM

Meh dont like them at all, reminds me of old mustang wheels!!

MVJ1975 07-18-2012 11:23 AM

They look pretty good to me. I'm going to be keeping stock size and offset, so another option is always appreciated.

The above mentioned sizes are available on their site.

their recommended fitments are rather conservative. the F8F has a less sunk face and thus has more caliper clearance than the F8, but the F8F is only available up to 17x7.5. anything bigger is the F8 type. dunno if that has anything to do with it. according to their matching data the largest recommended fitment for the 86/BRZ is 17x7.5 +40 front 17x8 +50 rear.

As others have mentioned I don't think they have a NA distributor.

Thanks for pointing that out.. yeah the caliper clearance maybe is the issue.

Ray@Carsmo 07-22-2012 02:21 PM

I was thinking how the Watanabes would look on the FRS and now there's finally real world photos. Unfortunately they look better on the AE86 and other old school cars as many of you have said.

I agree. They look MUCH better on older cars, and don't flatter newer ones. Negative offset, maybe.

Honestly the best thing going for them is the weight. I think most people like them just because of the association with the Initial D car.

Weak offset, too high, ugly side strips, tacky body kit and silly exhaust. Ruined is being polite.

mines13 07-31-2012 09:25 PM

lol

TylerLieberman 07-31-2012 10:58 PM

Not bad, but I have to agree it would look better with a lower offset. Doesn't need to be herraflush or anything but a lower offset with a nice stepped lip, would set it off

cyde01 11-02-2012 09:47 PM

here it is with a much better fitment. not a big fan of the color combo though. but it has the brand new direzza zii in 245/40.

this set on this brz are much more conservatively sized at 17x7 +45 but they're magnesium! 13.2 lbs!
