Insurance, brz vs frs

How much is everyone paying a month in insurance? Also does one brand tend to be cheaper to insure? The quote I got was about 135 a month for a used 2013. Downside to being young.

I would LOVE to have that number! That full coverage?

I'm at 237 for full. People are saying BRZ is cheaper to insure than the FRS. But I got quoted 1 dollar more for the FRS vs BRZ.

Too many factors play into numbers, as most already know. Too tired to list them from the top of my head.

Yep and it requires the standard response.

It doesn't matter what Joe Blow in Butfuk Arkansas pays in insurance. Rates are based on each individual and to compare is a waste of time. I have had rates change because I moved across a street that divided districts. So when you get 200 replies that say "I pay $5 a month" just ignore them all.

WhiteFRS69 07-07-2015 09:55 AM

want to save a couple bucks a month?

take an online defensive driving course, spent $30 on the course, saved myself $50 every 6 months (course is going to remove the 2 point i have on my record) hopefully it will drop some more when that goes away

Now that is some advice that actually applies to everybody.

And invariably, the highest posted rate will be about 5 times the lowest posted rate, so the original poster really has absolutely no idea how much "insurance" actually costs.

Exactly! Mine just came up for renewal and the Broker changed companies. I now pay $840 a year with full coverage including vehicle replacement value and a low deductible. Anybody want to top that? (Just as a practical demonstration in how futile it is to compare)

Check your DMV for a local class. Atleast in SC, 1 8hr class for $60 but removes 4 points off your license. Saved me from getting my license suspended as a teenager. Now I have no points on my license and for the sake of the tread I pay $135/mo.

840$ seems "a lot" to me. I pay 750$ per year. And last year it was even less at 640$ (went up because I changed company to get an overall better deal on house + car)
IIRC I was quoted up to 2200$ per year when shopping around.:bonk:

Perfect! Now to be fair we would have too sit and compare policies line by line.

As well as the type of car you first drove and the name of your first pet.

phrosty 07-07-2015 12:07 PM

Why do people post their insurance costs without posting their coverage? It is meaningless otherwise.

JonAvalon 07-07-2015 12:09 PM

The defensive driving tip is a good one, but since you're young you might want to double check your eligibility for your state and insurance company. Most will only apply it for senior drivers. Last year I took an approved DD course and I wasn't eligible by Geico because it only applied to senior drivers in TX. So yea check that stuff first.

I am also in washington and full coverage on my 13 FRS and liability on my miata through geico for me is only $122. If I only had the FRS on there then it would be about $20 cheaper. I am also young at 23 and I had no tickets on record when I got my plan (I have since had one ticket..) But my rates stayed the same. You should be able to get a similar rate if your driving record is similar. If you have a bunch of tickets then ya you are effed lol.

HotLavaFRS 07-07-2015 12:11 PM

I'd have to double check but I pay $225 a month for both the FR-S and the Mustang combined. Both have 50/100/50 coverage and a 100/250 comp/collision.

LucidMomentum 07-07-2015 12:13 PM

I'm fortunate in the sense that my mother worked for USAA so we got grandfathered into their Military rates, and then maybe a discount on top of it for being family of an employee.

So, my monthly insurance is around 70$. Granted I've been driving for about 7 years now with no tickets or accidents, and my employer mandates we have defensive driving training and refreshers every couple of years, so that factors into my rate as well.

An EVO would've been about double from USAA to insure, though. :(

You're complaining about <1700 bucks a year?! Sorry dude but that's peanuts. When I was younger (17 to be exact), I bought a 1992 Cavalier RS(3.1L V6 some of you may remember those lol) and my insurance was 4200 bucks a year, 350 a month!!!
I am almost 27 now, with a clean record and my insurance is still around 1800 a year. Consider yourself lucky lol

mav1178 07-07-2015 01:13 PM

This. I asked my insurance agent about taking a dd course or two, but she said it only applies to 55+ year old drivers.

It's good to take one but no reduction in insurance rate. :(

Includes such topics as:
Turn off your signal when done a turn
Stay awake at all times
Hands on the wheel even when they are required for talking
Remove pump hose from filler before driving away
Don't turn head to stare at pedestrians even if it may be Cousin Bertha
Going too slow is as bad as going too fast
More than one person will fit in a 12 year old Buick with 100 miles on it, carpool to the quilting bee
A full stop is not required before turning right into a laneway
Stuffed animals and Kleenex boxes on the back ledge do block vision
If under 4 feet tall a cushion should be used
If looking for an address do not stop in front of every building until you find it

Fishbed77 07-07-2015 05:34 PM

Personally, I was initially shocked at how inexpensive coverage for my 2013 6MT FR-S is.

The premiums over a whole year are only $24 more than my wife's identically-insured 4-door 2006 Civic EX (and she has a perfect driving record).

OK Tcoat I'll play....

I have zero tickets (safe driver) and military discount.

I pay $730.00 per year for full coverage including vehicle replacement value and a low deductible (250.00). Plus I have $500K coverage for every occupant's medical/ loss of life coverage.

jeffchap 07-07-2015 06:19 PM

$89/month for 25/50/25 and 500 deductible. I'm 50 y/o but have a 19 y/o female driver in the house. She has her own car and never drives mine, but my premiums went up about 40% when she turned 16.

86Hiro 07-07-2015 06:45 PM

$91.07 per month for 6 months. No Tickets, No Accidents, NADA. 10/20/10 policy with $500 deductible.

Amanofdragons 07-07-2015 06:48 PM

20 years old, clean record. 500 dollar deductible with state farm with full coverage. 135. If I wanted a 2007 fj cruiser, about 100 a month. Any v6 mustang or camaro, around 200 a month. Can't even afford to think of a v8. I'm somewhat happy at anything under 150. My folks still believe I'm getting ripped off.

Im 25 and have full coverage with State Farm and still only pay $91.07/month .........

kh060 07-07-2015 07:40 PM

$80 a month. 100k/300k, full coverage with roadside and rental reimburse, $500 deductible with geico. Age =34, no kids just spouse (31) in household. But we both are professionals and are both government employees so we get a lot of discounts through geico (Government Employees Insurance Co). Central California.

This thread is more meaningless because geographical location plays an enormous role in car insurance rates.

I can't help it if I stare at pedestrians! Pretty girl = must gawk until you feel awkward.

Guess my anime fetish mobile won't come to light! (Stuffed animal thing is common sense, though people still do it)

It's also meaningless without knowing the poster's age, gender, address, driving record, claims history and how many cars he or she has insured. Most of these threads are total bullshit that serve no purpose whatsoever.

So with all that in mind, I pay $316.64. PER YEAR.

That reminds me of the time I was looking to insure my first 600CC motorcycle. On my own policy, insurance company wanted 11.5k per year. Yes, eleven and a half thousand per year. I went to daddy and asked very nicely if he would be the primary rider as far as insurance was concerned, he said yes, and my rate went down to 600 per year, yes, six hundred.

That shit doesn't make sense, but it is what it is. Things like that make it clear why so many people commit insurance fraud to get cheaper insurance.

Though I do have sunglasses. Also perfect when you want to see if people are checking out your car. I do find that if I have them on, people seem to stare longer compared to when they can see my eyes. Fun experiment.

I just got a quote for my 2016, $1,600 full coverage. Ahh New Jersey home of the most lawyers per mile and the highest property and insurance rates. Gotta love to hate it.

I'm paying slightly more per year (after exchange rate). 23, no tickets and one not at fault accident. It's not all bad. I think my premium jumped about 150-200 after I bought this car. I came from a 2001 Mazda 626 V6, so I thought that was very reasonable.

Pshh... when I was 17 I bought a crappy new neon sxt and that thing was just under $5,000/year to insure for the first 2 years, a little over $400/month and on my parents plan in central NJ (150/350/150 UM100/300 with $500/$500 deductibles). My insurance was more than double the monthly payments on the thing... I could lease and insure a Porsche Cayman for what I was paying for that shit neon the first year...

I have the same coverage here in Madison, WI at 27 with a defensive driving course and clean record and I am at $896 a year. For the same as my monthly rate at 17, I get half a year of insurance for me and my wife.

I called insurance when I was shopping for a car and the difference between the FR-S, BRZ, 370z, and WRX were all within $40/year. Once you are over 25 your insurance will drop like a rock and it doesn't really matter what car you buy at that point. My wife's Nissan Rogue costs more to insure than my FR-S.
