Offical Gruppe-S UEL Header Install & Review Thread

Hey guys,
So @Gruppe-s has been working on getting us some UEL headers for a while now, and they finally came in! (June/July 2015).

Packaging was great, and all gaskets/nuts and bolts were included. No need to reuse the stock ones(which should be replaced anyway when you swap headers).

I opted for the Header AND overpipe, and they look KICKASS. The welds are clean(cause you know, everyone on this forum is an expert welder-and love to trash crappy welds) but these things are CLEAN. The insides of the header/overpipe are SMOOTH. Plus, flanges on the header were perfectly flat, so you'll be exhaust leak-free

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/361/19...4ab0406b_c.jpg

And the collector, HOLY COW. IT. IS. PERFECT. Let the pictures speak for themselves.

Install-Sweet. There are a ton of of how-to's for removing the stock stuff, and this install was no different. Everything lined up perfectly and there were no hiccups. There is adjustment on the header, so if for some reason stuff didn't line up perfectly, you could tweak it a bit. Mine went on without a hitch.

Sounds-Perfect. I've been dying for the boxer rumble since I got the car over 2 years ago, but I've been holding off because
A) I'm stupid
B) I wasn't happy with the quality of "cheap" headers, but didn't want to spend a ton of money

This header ROCKS. I've only had in on a few hours now, but my buddy and I went out and did some "testing" and sound clips with the camera. The car sounds like a BEAST.

Currently, my exhaust setup is:
Gruppe-S UEL Header
Gruppe-S Overpipe
Stock Frontpipe(I guess I might was well swap-its the final piece haha)
Ark Grip catback

I bought the ARK because I wanted to buy a header down the road, and I didn't want to be too loud. Right now, its perfect.

I'll of course be reporting back as I spend more time with the car and put more miles on it!

Trying to...big issue (lol) is that I'm supercharged* so gains wont be "typical"

Plus I don't have a baseline for my car, but power feels smoother/with more torque.

Oh, and sounds WAY better!

randomthoughts 07-06-2015 02:20 PM

Beautiful!

DIM 07-06-2015 02:41 PM

Ramiram so mean, but true.
Let me know if you guys are interested in the header. If you say this on the Shutter review, or on the original post?

thanks lol...just a short thing put together by my buddy. I want to do some really good shots/sound clips but I'm pretty crunched for time!

cdrazic93 07-07-2015 06:31 PM

those are some quality quality looking manifold bends, welds and a perfectly executed collector? gnarly.

Stealthy 07-07-2015 06:58 PM

Sounds amazing and comparable to the classic WRX sound. Great review!

Looks exactly the same as SSI, PSR and other brands headers that come out of the same factory as Tomei. The difference is they've deleted the slip joint connectors that usually foul on the bash plate, which is a great idea. Should have just moved the connectors diagonally to the sides instead of the bottom though.

Teseo 07-07-2015 08:32 PM

Price?

eggncheese 07-07-2015 09:34 PM

@Shutter. Thanks for posting this. I'm Currently trying to find a somewhat local place to get mine ceramic coated. Ya know, snow and salt in the mid Atlantic. Can't wait to get mine on!

Drakiv 07-07-2015 09:48 PM

I just installed mine with the Gruppe-S OP over the weekend and man it sounds great! I will post some sound clips, I have a stock front pipe with a Tomei type 80 catback. Also running a OFT UEL stage 2 tune.

cjm86 07-07-2015 10:02 PM

Cant wait to get mine !!

Make sure I didn't send you a WRX header please before you coat it.

Its not. Box read FA20 manifold on it. I opened it and its certainly the correct part.

1 year warranty. Over pipe is $125, order it same time as header and it ships free.

It looks like the same header, Prospeed is selling that header for $749 AUD which is roughly $560 USD, looks like the Americans are getting a better deal at $475 from us.

Maybe the guys from OZ can order from us and get it cheaper with the shipping from the USA!

Got mine one, love the sounds but the fitment was a bit off, I'm not able to line up the hanger on the front pipe anymore and now I'm getting some rattle. Going to have to figure something out this coming weekend

What front pipe are you running?

JDsThatGuy 07-10-2015 02:39 PM

J2 Engineering

I'm not too familiar with J2. Has anyone else reported fitment issues with this front pipe? Does it use the same diameter piping as the Gruppe-S overpipe?

Digitalanalog 07-11-2015 06:06 PM

I have a j2 from pipe also. That bracket just sucks, snapped mine at the weld and rattles now but oh well

SPCorBUST 07-12-2015 04:34 AM

Just picked mine up. Its going to be mated to a complete Perrin 2.5" system (overpipe, catted front pipe, resonated catback) by lunchtime tomorrow. Will get some sound clips up as well.

swarb 07-12-2015 04:43 AM

@Shutter when are you going to dyno your car? because you should.
