Well, That's... Different. $40k?

Saw this on Ebay. Basically a stock FR-S (says Raven Black) but completely covered in chrome wrap. $40k seem a bit excessive? I have no idea, but if you want to attract attention, good and bad, this is a quick solution. Thoughts?

I kind of like it. Reminds me of a Matchbox car I had as a kid...lol.

WhiteFRS69 06-26-2015 02:36 PM

hahaha i love how people think something different like this will add value to a car

More like $1k in materials and about 10 hours labor (unskilled labor at that...)

Rampage 06-26-2015 04:39 PM

I saw a BRZ like that at a Subaru dealer near Tarpon Springs, FL last year.

Fishbed77 06-26-2015 04:40 PM

I hope the sun is never shining when you try to drive that thing.

Curtski96 06-26-2015 04:42 PM

Definitely not my favourite colour choice.

There's an Audi around here with a chrome wrap. Looks like utter shit in person.

Toyarzee 06-26-2015 08:31 PM

And here I was feeling so utterly thankful that I finally have a car that DOESN'T have any god damn chrome I have to paint or cover up somehow...

Choco 06-26-2015 09:15 PM

I can imagine someone buying the car then years later take off the vinyl and finds out the paint is all swirled up and bad underneath. :eyebulge:

SisterBlue22 06-26-2015 09:57 PM

Ugh...here in AZ, people would be crashing around you everywhere you went from being blinded by the reflection of the sun off your ugly ass car....

TRD-X 06-26-2015 10:04 PM

wbradley 06-28-2015 01:23 PM

I like it in theory but not sure I'd like the attention it would attract. Maybe easier to put over in FL or CA.

Zhangy 06-28-2015 04:34 PM

40k is such a scam

Is that what happens with vinyl wrap that has been left on the car too long? I have no idea...I'm too old for the whole 'wrap thing'. Not to be confused with 'rap'...lol.

Worse, it's actually a new car with 13 miles on it at a dealership. They should know better.

They say it right there in the listing: "ONE OF A KIND SCION FR-S CHROME PACKAGE $5400"

They would charge you $5400 to do this to your car, so it can't be anywhere that expensive for them. I still don't see how they take a $25K car, add a $5400 wrap even at retail and come up with $40K.

GT/86 06-28-2015 11:54 PM

As Gregg Allman once said- wrap is short for cwrap.

If your gonna mirror-polish a car, why not do it with some style?

Besides, the gold-plated versions weren't good for flux dispersal:

But... think of finger smudges. They'll be EVERYWHERE. If the reflection doesn't drive me insane the finger smudges will.

extrashaky 06-29-2015 07:33 PM

So I sent the guy a message to ask about the price of this car. Here's his response:

"The MSRP on this FRS is 31368, This has the upgraded Wheels, TRD, Navi, plus the 5400 Chrome package, I will adjust my pricing to reflect this. We can Charge on an addendum for the Chrome Package."

I think he's also charging for the extra capital letters.

MarcFr-s 06-29-2015 11:37 PM

Chrome looks better is small doses.... somebody OD'd
