Yep! 85k on the first one so that's 15k already on the second one! Sucks but whatever I'm still beating the piss out of it.

Not sure. It blew up with a bang and a lot of smoke so I never even opened it up to diagnose.

Cal3000 06-23-2015 02:03 AM

I'm kind of jealous. I'm at 94,000 miles and have 70,000 boosted miles on the same engine. I'll be at 100k in a few months. lol

Nice!!! That's a lot of miles to be boosted too! I blew up on NA. lol.

Tt3Sheppard 06-23-2015 08:55 AM

How is everything else holding up besides the engine?

I broke two rear axels and had a front wheel bearing go. That's pretty much it. I do have a drone or roaring noise coming from the rear end under load now, but if that does go next I won't be too upset since it'll give me an excuse to get a better diff for autoX.

High pitch whine at about 65/70 under load? No sound when off the throttle downhill?

billyk 06-23-2015 11:00 AM

Congrats on the 100k!

Koa 06-23-2015 11:12 AM

BADASS! Big ups

Scenic Driver 06-23-2015 11:17 AM

Congrats

D_Thissen 06-23-2015 11:21 AM

100k?! That's impressive. I am really glad to hear that you didn't have any major issues. A wheel bearing is just wear and tear. Here's to another 100k!

campy 06-23-2015 11:26 AM

Wow, I've had my FRS since 2012 and I haven't even hit 30k yet...

cdq85 06-23-2015 11:29 AM

just out of curiosity, was everything on the powertrain stock? I glanced through your build thread and didn't see any mention of mods to motor.

continuecrushing 06-23-2015 11:43 AM

whoa! Im about to hit 30k!

I also got mine in 2012, I'm about 1 month shy of my 3 year anniversary with the car.

SUB-FT86 06-23-2015 01:06 PM

Congrats! It will be a while before I hit that. Currently at 14,500 on my 2013.

Sooooo.... How much does a new FA20 run?

Wise 06-23-2015 07:34 PM

LOL I've only had the car since 2012 and I'm on 11,000 miles roundabouts.

But I only drive it as a weekend or weeknights car.

fitcious 06-23-2015 08:05 PM

seems like you have the auto transmission? any issues with that throughout these 100k? and did you ever change the tranny oil at all?

lastly - your first engine..it just blew up under normal driving conditions or were you pushing it pretty hard (i.e. track)?

How much can you source off the blown engine? Looks like OEM shortblock is just over $2k with full units being pulled out of wrecked cars for $2k-$4k, couldn't find an oem long block replacement, less if you're willing to do a little bit of wrenching.

And then add labor if you aren't.

So when I was looking at motor options used was WAY cheaper than anything I looked at. I ended up buying a motor from LKQ with only 1,800 miles on it for only $3,100 shipped and it was "fully dressed." There were some cheaper used motors but this one was pretty much just broken in.

He had to replace an engine, what would you consider a major issue?

edit: looks like some folks beat me to it

How hard of a life did the first motor live? Track days every weekend?

dem00n 06-23-2015 10:28 PM

Guys, take a breather.

I'm sure some of our engines will last to 100k.
