Nice! Been waiting for this to be posted.
|
Not really a review, more like a Scion sponsored test drive/PR interview.
Bit of a stretch to call it a top to bottom run-down. When they opened the hood the Scion guy struggled to remember the capacity of the engine (two point... it's a two litre), then couldn't find much to talk about in the engine bay except the Toyota/Subaru logos on the rocker cover. Jay came over as very bored for much of it, but he seemed to really like the car and thought there was a good demand for lightweight FR in the states. |
Oh Jack Hollis, you never cease to amaze me with your cringe inducing lack of knowledge. http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/5844/facepalm.gif

He says there are a few special versions... can't wait to see what they have! Also, look at all the comments posted from all the muscle car guys  However, Hollis looks like he's on drugs, he looks really hyper because he shakes and he slurs a lot of his words, and on one shot his eyes were looking everywhere

Honestly, I rather enjoyed this. It sounded pretty much like every conversation I've had with folks in person on the car. It was more or less just a casual conversation about the car between two guys who enjoy talking about cars. Sure, it was a little forced, but most of these type segments on any show are. By the way, Leno and Hollis standing together by this car make it look TINY! Jay is 5'11", and Hollis, well, over 6', not sure of his exact height. I did like Jay's comment at the end about it being a "sports car" and not a "muscle car". I thought he was right on with that. |
Don't really follow this guy, But was not a good review, clearly he wasn't interested in what the Scion VP had to say,
He had to ask how much it weighed 4 times..... douche |

Again, it was an "OK" conversation about the car, definitely don't think it qualifies as a review. |
titusdrake got a shout out!

I don't think that it is necessarily a lack of general knowledge but rather a lack of intimate knowledge that those of us who have been pouring over this car for years have without caring one bit about the other vehicles in the Scion line up (which he has to be concerned about as well). It also seems that he (Jack Hollis) isn't as comfortable in front of a camera knowing that if he makes one single gaffe that he will be raked over the coals about "not knowing anything about this car." His body language also hints as this as you can see in the beginning that he is unsure how to stand when he first comes on camera, he is somewhat stiff and not fully relaxed, he searches for the correct or right words to say, etc.
I have heard from many stories told by forum members here that he is a genuine and likable guy. Now he is forced into the position of being the cheerleader for the next "automotive messiah." I would say that he just needs some coaching on relaxing while in front of the camera. |
Who thinks Jack Hollis' knowledge of the car extends only to the window sticker they put in it before they sell it?
|
totally agree with you but i think he did find when he revealed the car in the auto shows no?

Jay looked like he just woke up and he didn't really want to like the car but he does. Jack needs to work on his presentation. He is too jittery nervous.

Glad they had the shout out to my fellows at Subaru!
Thats how Jay is if you watch any of his other videos. Looked like he was having fun in the car though, that says a lot. |

GOTTA GET DEM CRAZY IN ME |
I really liked this video. I have always enjoyed listening to Jay's opinions on cars-- he tends to know his stuff. But honestly, even if he said negative things about the car, my excitement for the car is cemented.

Jay Leno appears to have been paid to conduct this extended commercial of the FR-S.

I want Jack's job. Plain and Simple.

That Scion guy talks too much. Also, it was odd where Jay Leno incorrectly referred to the A-pillars as B-pillars when he was talking about how he liked the car's outward visibilitiy.
Not a bad review, but they didn't do much stuff through the corners. But I'm surprised about the story of the 6'7" 300+ lb. driver who said he fit fine in it. I've been in an FR-S, and I'm not sure how comfortable it would be for someone of that size. My boss is 6'5" and around 300, and his girlfriend is looking into a new car and was considering the FR-S, and I can't see him getting into it without some gymnastics. |

Thanks, I'll check that out. But after just reading the first few lines, it sounds like they already exaggerated his size.

did leno "in-fact" bought or own that scion FRS?
or is this just a publicity/advertising? for the scion FRS? |

Can't believe how Jack did not know what the etymology of the term "boxer engine" was :( But I guess as a Scion executive he would not think about boxer as much as anyone working at Subie
|
I have met Jack in person a few times and he is a pretty cool and likeable guy IMO. I think this was just jitters on his part. Scion doesn't get a lot of celebrity attention. I have also heard him spout the specs before without issue, so again I chalk that up to nerves.
That burnout at the end was kind of sad - You can do way better if you brake it at least a teeny bit. Then again I guess Jay is probably used to cars where simply romping the throttle will roast the tires for a football field. |
Lol every time Jack Hollis speaks, it seems like he is trying to sell the car.
|
HAH. at 8:35-8:50 he mentions me. ironically i didn't end up getting an FR-s because it ultimately was too small for me. great car though, and still roomier than i thought it would be

I saw the video. Jack did good. Jay Leno can get to you like that. Nobody is perfect. Jack is still the best general manager for Scion. He seemed the same as any other time I have ever seen him present.
"It's a 2, it's a 2, it's a 2 liter boxer engine!" Yeah! Jack you da man bro! Oh damn, Jack said there might be a stripper model in the near future...did y'all catch that? Jack you da man bro! Looks like Jay ran a red light...hehe! Actually I looked at it again...he made it before it turned... Jay, "The car weights what?" Jack, "27 freaking 58! Jay! How many freaking times do I have to tell your old jeans wearing ass?" What video did y'all see? That was a good review. Jay loved this car! |
If he took the thing on the canyons or curves im sure his relatively bored demeaner would have changed.

Toyotas was the mr2 and celica and even those were a little off-target with the "sports car" demographic. Just like many icons they got bigger and didn't increase the power enough to maintain their performance. The older models were better. I hope for his sake that this is what he meant. I'm not trying to hate on the cars, just trying to explain another persons actions. |
