3rd Annual Texas FT86 Day Meet/Cruise

Here is the event that everyone has been waiting for the 3rd Annual Texas FT86 day meet/cruise. The date is soon approaching (August 6 - 8/6) and this year it falls on a Thursday. Since most people will be doing their 9-5 thing we will be holding the 86 meet/cruise on the Saturday after, 8/8/15. So mark your calendars and come join in the fun and meet some fellow enthusiasts from around the state.

Much like last year we will follow suit with the local San Antonians and will be running the Three Sisters route which can be found HERE. Communication is key with these cruises. I will be bringing my set of 2 way radios and I ask if anyone else has a set to bring, it would help the group as a whole.

Of course we want as many 86, FR-S and BRZ drivers as possible but anyone can come and have a good time. Last year had a awesome turn out and we hope this year will be even better. We ask that everyone be courteous and respectful to one another and to whoever we come across. Just make sure to treat everyone how you would like to be treated.

Facebook is up and CLICK HERE to go to it.

Please mention if you are in and are bring anyone with you. I will need to head count for Bent Rim Grill so they can be prepared for the amount of food and drinks that we will consume.

The planning of small details like sponsors and times for this is still going on and I will keep this thread up to date on any changes and when the times are finalized. Thanks to @Dustin, @Extreme86, @MoebiusStrip, @OVR_RUN, and @Texaz Boy for the help in setting up this years event.

Guidelines/Safety

First and foremost, you're not going to impress anyone being a showoff. No burnouts, donuts, excessive revving, yada yada, you get the idea. Don't bee the asshat everyone looks at in disapproval.

Safety is a big concern. Yes this is meant to be a fun drive and will be a spirited run for some. I know personally I plan on pushing my car a bit. However, don't try to push your car beyond it's limits or your own. Goes back to the first rule......DON'T BE A SHOWOFF!! Drivers must be alert and ready to immediately let off and stay in their lane. Watch out for road conditions and adjust driving/speed accordingly. Respect other motorists. Stay alert!!! If bicycles are out...we need to ramp it down so nobody gets killed. This is where the two way radios will come in handy. So if you have one, BRING IT so you can be informed. We want everybody to have fun, but know that you are responsible for your own actions and those actions could affect other people so everyone please be on your A game.

Be warned that on the way to/from Medina on several runs people have gotten tickets. So be cautious in that area. Also the last gas station is in Leakey and that will be the last pit stop to get gas so make sure you have plenty before you leave there. We suggest everyone to fill up their tanks in Bandera before arriving in Medina. This should save us some time in Leakey for sure and when Extreme86 does this he has enough fuel to do the run and it gets him back to San Antonio.

Morning Location

We will meet at The Apple Store (not the computer brand) and park across the street there will a short briefing and then we will head out. Like last year the runs will be split up into groups, planning on 10-15 per group. If there are any late comers, there will be one last pit stop in Leakey for you to catch up.

The Apple Store (think apple orchard)
14024 State Hwy 16 North, Medina, TX 78055

To those that are FI or E85 it would be a good idea to bring an extra 5 gallon gas can of the fuel that you need. I feel that this is self explanatory and if your one of these people you should already know the struggle.

Shirts

We are planning to do t-shirts again this year thanks to MoebiusStrip and OVR_RUN for getting that started. Shirts are going to be around $10 this year as well. Thread for the shirts are up. Post in the thread to get your order in or you most likely wont get a shirt.

Walkie Talkies / 2-Way Radios is what we normally use. Everyone will be set on the same channel so we will hear everybody. Keep in mind that 10-15 cars will go at once there will be enough separation between groups that you will not hear another group on your walkies while doing the run.

weederr33 06-10-2015 11:55 AM

Ok cool. I wasn't sure if there was a particular brand.

Bobby_Booshay 06-10-2015 12:21 PM

Um what? I have no idea what you're talking about..... :D I figured I could go to try and match the other side, or is that a bad idea? lol

@Shneegle and @carbonBLUE are you guys planning on going down friday? I was thinking of starting a thread for the DFW caravan down there if we want to do like last year?

I am in!

robr 06-11-2015 09:57 AM

Slightly off topic: I'm having my brother cut track map style stickers of the Twisted Sisters route for our next MR2 outing there (some time in the fall). Is there any interest in the same stickers from you guys for this event? The ones I'm having made have total outer dimensions of 5x7, so should fit the 86 1/4 window fairly well. I'm not looking to make any money, but material and shipping costs would need to be covered, so I'm thinking it'd be maybe $3-5 each sticker, depending on how many total I have him make.

I already asked if he'd donate them for this event, but he wasn't having it :(

If this should be a new thread, sorry, someone publicly point out I'm an idiot, and I'll move it.

Scavanger 06-11-2015 10:00 AM

In for it this year again.

A picture would help in this case if you have a sticker already on a car. I like the idea of a track layout sticker. You could bring these to the event like the tshirts. If people want to preorder one they can or you can just have them for sale at the event.

We have a FB event made for this HERE if they want to mark if they will be coming or not on it.

Also they can send questions/messages to DFW 86 and either I will get back to them or Texas Boy will.

Kuri 06-11-2015 11:52 AM

Yeah I was talking to DFW 86 yesterday.

No pictures yet, as I'm waiting to see if there's even enough interest from the MR2 guys (a few of them brought up the idea, not me). I was going to have more cut for that event, just wanted to see if I should have even more made, and much sooner than our fall trip, for you guys.

I wouldn't do pre-orders, that's far more hassle than I care to deal with. Especially when the end cost is directly attached to how many are made. If I get them cheap enough, I'd just give them to someone to bring down and hand out there for free if I can't make it. Which I already brought up to the wife, so fingers crossed.

We use FRS radios - Motorola, Midland, Cobra, etc all should work. Look for ones that say FRS or GMRS - they are the most common ones out there and what you will find at a box store. An example is: http://amzn.com/B0072LB10S but you can find them at Cabela's, WalMart, or pretty much anyplace. We will be using a standard channel so almost any of these things will work, but Motorola, Midland, or Cobra will be the easiest to set up. If you're a ham, then you already know what to do :)
