First article is so old the car wasn't even released yet. BRZ owners will be glad that they got a "slight increase in performance" over the FRS.

Second one is correct. They are not selling piles. But they are not making piles of them either so they are probably right on their planned numbers. Nothing to worry about unless there are many thousands sitting on lots for years because they have not sold.

Toyota set certain amount of twins to be made annually. First first, they were way too many demand than they could make. It's still on high depend than they're making... but auto blogger & other site wants their clicks, but they're making dramatic statement that "FRS & BRZ isn't selling well" or other bs articles.

Anyways whole thing in the nutshell, you bought one & enjoying it, who cares lol

But its true its not selling well enough for other automakers to try to make a new chassis to jump in the market. Like how the Nissan idx is dead, or at best will come out with one of their fwd chassis.

Correction, it's not that they don't make a new chassis, but they can't make a new chassis.

Reason why Nissan idx is dead is cuz they'll loose tremendous $ and they'll be competing against Z. If they wanna compete against the twins or Miata by lighten up and lower power Z... that'll make it worse, they cannot lower the price of Z, cuz they're already loosing money as is. They cannot loose more money.

So again, Toyota didn't make twin to profit. They're already profiting from Camry and Corolla. They brought twins to bring car enthuses back on the map.

I think they could quite easily make a 240z, make it a smaller and more compact chassis than the 370z, and stay within the current Z styling. It would carry a very nostalgic sportscar name, and they could make it to compete pretty favorably with our cars and the new miata. Nissan knows how to make great cars, they just choose to make boring crap. They could have both the 240z and 370z; they really would be two different levels of car.

That's the thing, they can't... Just say they do make new 240z w I6 NA engine (to keep it classic) pushing 220hp w 185tq. You're looking at $26k~$30k MINIMUM. Just say new 240z, they went w 2.4L I4 turbo. It can produce over 300hp easy w current technology... Which will bring the 370Z's sales down. Why buy limited power upgrade 370z when you can do so many upgrade w i4 turbo? Specially 2.4L, so it can produce ridiculous tq!

Again, why do you think new 510 concept died?

I figured the 510 concept died because it was ugly as sin and had the aerodynamic properties of a loaf of bread.

They could make it an NA 2.4L 4cyl, push 220hp or so, and make it light and agile, to compete with our cars and the miata. The 370 could up its hp a little and compete with the mustang and camaro.

Nope, there were so many hype bout 510 concept, but when Nissan crunched the number to make it production, they say screw that & throw compact car idea into the trash can.

The whole thing about the other companies and the cars they release is that they could not care less what the sales numbers of the Twins are. They don't just stand back and go "nope not gonna release the new XXXX since the 86s are not selling". They have multi year plans and spend millions of RD dollars and although they may note how many of other models are selling it is not a make or break factor in what they will do.

I actually think the IDX is adorable-it reminds me so much of my first generation Celica coupes. I think it's also a brilliant reincarnation of the old 510 coupe for which it's named. The 510 is iconic in the same way as the BMW 2002, and has a huge following. I'd love it if they dropped the fat 370z and switched production to the IDX.

I would be ready with cash in hand for an s16, so long as it didn't suck and wasn't fugly like the 10 "concepts" or "renderings" that have popped up over the years.

I think most of everybody who really wanted the FRS/BRZ bought it the first year, if not, second. Since there are no major changes between each year, a lot of people are just scooping up slightly used ones for a few thousand $$ cheaper than a brand new one.

Great car, but the sales figures don't surprise me one bit. If major changes come, I can see sales going back up.. Depending on what they are, of course.

Nissan's main difficulty is they're only the 9th largest manufacturer in revenue and they make two low-volume sports cars. Neither the GT-R or the Z make them any money (the twins have sold more in a month than they've sold Z cars this year).

The twins are only slow sellers in comparison to Toyota's bread and butter and the company has the volume to absorb the lower numbers.

But anyway - these articles are OLD OLD OLD.

I couldn't take the Jalopnik article seriously when it started with the Mazda 6. I got stuck in a 6 as a rental, and it was one of the most uncomfortable pieces of shit I've ever driven, surpassed only by a Saturn. I couldn't wait to get rid of that thing. I imagine they're not selling well because people cut their test drives short and slap the salesman.

Easy solution. Make the 240Z the 370Z replacement.

350Z has been around since 2002 it was replaced 7 years later by the 370Z.

It's almost time for Nissan to make a new model to take it's place. With BMW and Ferrari both opting for smaller capacity turbo charged motors, noone is going to begrudge Nissan for opting for a 4cyl turbo.

Make it less than 1300kg, give it 300HP and design it so it looks somewhere between a 240Z and an S15 and it could very well be the best car Nissan ever makes.

They don't even need to make the engine. Just repurpose one of the F4's out of the Renault Megane range.

I think most of everybody who really wanted the FRS/BRZ bought it the first year, if not, second. Since there are no major changes between each year, a lot of people are just scooping up slightly used ones for a few thousand $$ cheaper than a brand new one.

I prefer this to that IDx crap! To me a sports car should always have a nice low slung aerodynamic silhouette and not look like a boxy coupe. I feel a box-like design is better suited to boring looking cars like a SUV/Truck/Sedan

Hm.... <1300kg gonna be hard. But I do agree that 370z need to be gone & new model need to come out. Just they cannot make one that save them. Silvia is in the line... but safety, weight, price & other issues get in the way (this is my guess).

IF, I say if, because, our Z forum isnt convinced a next gen 370Z replacement is coming anytime soon. Lot of reasoning behind that I wont get into now. However, IF the next gen Z is made, say by a 2017 release theres a failrly good chance there will be a few models. 2.0 Turbo, 3.0 Twin Turbo (By Mercedes making 450HP) and possibly a Hybrid. Targa top is in play too. The 3.0 Twin Turbo IS CONFIRMED for the next gen Q60. The Z ALWAYS takes parts off the shelf to keep costs down. Like the G37 preceded the 370Z by a year and its viryually the same car, the same will probably be true of the trickle down from the new Q60 to the next Z.

granted it's all speculation, it would be awesome if it materialized. That is assuming the z doesn't weigh 4000lbs

Yes, of course. I agree. Though the base 370Z is (or was at time of release in 2009) 95 pounds LIGHTER than the base 350Z it replaced. Im sure itll gain a few pounds, but id be very pleased with status qua for weight.

Yea I drove the 2013 Genesis 3.8 before I bought the 2013 370. I didnt like the way it drove AT THE TIME but LOVED all the tech and interior. The salesman didnt know shit about the car either. If he did I probably still would have bought the Z but the decision might have been harder. I come from a long line of Z's 260, 280, 300, 350 and the 370 and generally scoffed at "stupid Hyundai s". Then, about 10 months owning a base 370 with sport and hitting the magical age of 36, the thrill of driving a no frills, tweaked up sports car in south florida traffic got old. And quick. And buying the Z in 2013 i got RAPED on price. That was THE most expensive year to buy. My base with sport was $35K!!! It had a radio and cruise control, thats it. Dont get me wrong, I LOVED driving it, in the right conditions. And thats at the track in Sebring which i went to ALOT with CHIN racing, and open back roads. It was fabulous!! But that aint reality. So thinking back to the Genesis interior and tech, i test drove one again and made the switch. Off the line the Z has it, though not by much. On a roll, my butt dyno says the 3.8 will take it. Handling...no contest, the Z, easy. Comfort....Genny by a HUGE margin. Tech...Genny by a HUGE margin (I can start my car with my phone as an example is just the tip of the iceberg.) So for 350HP, 300TQ, peanut butter leather, 8speed auto with paddls, moonroof, NAV, all the tech and goodies for LESS than I paid for a base Z. much better daily driver than the Z but the Z is a Sports car, through and through. The 3.8 is a Grand Tourer. Which its great at.
