Exhaust assistance needed.

Hi all,

Right now I'm running a greddy Evo 3 catback and catless Tomei UEL headers. Frontpipe and overpipe are stock.

My car has terrible drone inside without silencers but sounds fantastic outside.
If i put the silencers in, it sounds like a prius.

I would like my FRS to be loud outside without reducing comfort during long extensive commutes. What exhaust would you recommend to pair with my catless headers, keep my exhaust loud outside and have no drone inside.

I was looking into the Tomei type 80, anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Perrin 2.5" resonated will solve your problems.

The first pic is very nice.

What about adding sound deading material into the car?

G-awesome 06-02-2015 11:22 AM

trd! trd! trd!

JarredH 06-02-2015 03:44 PM

I would like to still be loud outside, just not inside lol

TRD, Q300, or Resonated Perrin

I agree, I like how the red lug nuts are highlighted on those white wheels.

I saw one picture with no car. :)

drewbot 06-03-2015 08:22 AM

lol, Tomei Type 80 will NOT make it any quieter

troek 06-03-2015 09:22 AM

i found that blocking off from the bottom of the back seat, all the way up to the window with sound deading mats, made high way crusing more enjoyable.

Corsa and Ark are known for having relatively loud exhausts and having no drone on the highways.

What taillights are those? And where did you buy them?

They're smoked Valentis

drone wise? I want it to be louder exterior and quieter interior. Wondering if the type 80 drones without the silencer.

Any canister style muffler will drone like crazy. I think Ark is one of the few that doesn't because of the helmholtz resonators on it.

What you're looking for is exactly what I found with the Perrin 2.5" resonated combined with a JDL UEL header, OP, and catted FP.

It's loud outside, no drone inside, but you can definitely hear that I have exhaust and a distinct UEL rumble sound. I've tested many of these exhausts from the N1, to the Q300, to a full 3" Nameless setup and this combination I have now is the best.

This guy said it all... Just installed Perrin 2.5" Catback with HKS dual resonated front pipe...I am very pleased with the sound.

Anybody running a 60S tomei CBE? And does it drone? 2.5 perrin may be my route.

MonoRaven 06-07-2015 08:27 AM

I have the Corsa and it is not obnoxiously loud but has a nice deep tone that can be heard outside. Inside the car with windows up I can barely hear it and at neutral throttle I can't hear it at all, no drone whatsoever. But when you put your foot in it it comes alive and everyone around will know it.
I'm very happy with it, I wanted something that could be heard without sounding like a fartcan but with no drone inside and the Corsa gave me just what I wanted.
Oh BTW, I don't have a header so not sure how it sounds with one.

I just recently got Q300/JDL UEL/OP/Catted FP, setup sounds super nice - no drone but it's a little subdued. Did you really notice a big difference going from Q300 to Perrin resonated? I love my setup but would prefer a little more volume.

RobertPaulson 06-09-2015 06:55 PM

you want the perrin,

tomei uel, perrin op, ark catless resonated front pipe, perrin resonated 2.5 inch catback. 0 drone, loved this set up. only reason i changed it up is because i got my hands on a full perrin 3 inch fp/cbe.

Absolutely. I love the sound of it. Great balance of civil and authoritative based on how hard you press the gas pedal. Q300 I could barely tell I had a UEL inside.

Completely agree with comment about Q300, honestly I think it'd sound just the same with stock exhaust, you can only hear it from 1k-3k. Looks like I'm gonna be picking up a Perrin resonated after only having this exhaust for two weeks

It will sell quick. The Q300 is probably the quietest catback for this car and many enjoy that. Good luck.

I am currently with the 2.5" Perrin Catback, HKS dual resonated front pipe. I am very pleased with the sound due to it being deep, but not obnoxiously loud, hardly any rasp. It paired with a UEL achieves that subaru sound, and that will be my next step. If you are looking for bigger gains(Not much) you can go with a EL header, but lose the subbie rumble. I will be going with the Tomei UEL header.

Not worried about minor gains, would rather have UEL with a few less HP for the awesome sound. I'm pretty much set on switching to Perrin Resonated from my Q300. Just put 7k on car parts so it's gonna have to wait a little bit unfortunately
