Anyone in GTA tune with OFT?

Otherwise, I have to buy an Ecutek license.

D_Thissen 05-23-2015 10:00 PM

@wparsons do you know any one?

wparsons 05-23-2015 11:07 PM

You could ask Sasha at OnPoint, but I don't know of anyone for sure.

Definitive Tuning up in Newmarket might be able to. They have Vishnu license to tune IIRC and Ecutek and a 4 wheel dyno for the Subie guys. He tunes the Honda factory race cars too the last time I saw. Cleaned up a tune on my STi at their old location.

They have the craziest fan I've ever seen.... Like I'm talking 6 feet diameter lol.

Please give update.

With OFT It may be cheaper to use the Vishnu remote custom tuning, with Vishnu as the tuner.

Data log, send to Vishnu, etc.
Would depend on how long for him to send amended tunes via e-mail.

This rings a bell now that you mentioned it. Data log and send to Vishnu with the current tune is an option.

Bergen23 05-24-2015 11:46 AM

Iirc, it's like 220 for up to 7 tuning amendments.

@wbradley....please give update. Interested.

wbradley 05-24-2015 01:51 PM

I will give an update when I get it sorted out. I'd prefer to dyno tune the car if possible as it seems safer to have it dealt with hands on. Of course with a license, base tune, dyno time and custom tune its going to cost WAYY more than remote with Shiv. To me, ideally there is a local OFT tuner as that's going to cost at least $500 to $800 less than Ecutek.

Jas1137 05-24-2015 08:07 PM

I'm in the same boat as you. A tuner that can tune with the OFT would save me a pretty penny. I've contacted Touge Tuning and I've been told that they use EkuTek and will not use OFT.

wparsons 05-24-2015 11:02 PM

Touge Tuning has all their tuning done by Sasha at OnPoint Dyno. He definitely does EcuTek, doubtful he'll want to tune by RomRaider/OFT.

steve99 05-24-2015 11:04 PM

unless you have a very unique setup with an intake that you have not done maf scaling on and maybe nameless or ace header the oft tunes work pretty well.

just an e tune should be able to sort out intake issues , unique header mabye require dyno time

but otherwise flash and go tunes are pretty good if they match your mods, i have even heard the reputable ecutek guys say that getting a dyno tune on one of their flash and go type tunes NA will yeild little extra.

it different for boosted guys but on NA theirs not much in getting a full dyno tune over an e tune.

You should dyno yours and compare it mine, that way we can see the gains ;) Basically the only difference is you're running the OFT 93 tune.

wparsons 05-25-2015 11:35 AM

And my engine is way more broken in :D

D_Thissen 05-25-2015 05:41 PM

Way more broken in = way more power lol

n0thing 05-25-2015 07:16 PM

Where are you guys getting the OFT from? Brzworld or straight from the states?

I got mine straight from the states, but that was before Barrington was offering it on BRZWorld. If I were to get it now I'd get it from BRZWorld likely.

Which was quickly deleted by the mod lol. Apparently 10 threads on 2017 having 8 more horsepower is okay though

D_Thissen 05-26-2015 08:27 AM

"Hi Dan,

Yes I have experience with FRS/BRZ tuning both NA and turbocharged applications.* I use ECUtek for tuning this platform.* I avoid running relatively "unknown" or open source systems.* I've run into unrecoverable issues with various systems in the past so stick to tuning systems that I know are reliable.* I've never heard of open flash myself and looking at their website, it's not something that I would use for tuning customer's cars at this time. *However, assuming you are using my dyno, I have no problem walking you through the tuning process and this software if you wish to tune yourself.* It doesn't take me long to figure out any tuning software and I always like working with people who are interested in self tuning.* In any event, let me know if I can help you with anything.
*
Best regards,
Mike Ip.

So far Sasha at On Point hasn't responded to my email and appt request. Anyone on here dyno tuned by Definitive? Is he known to be good on our platform?? Reputable? I have only ever heard of people talking about On Point here.

wparsons 05-26-2015 09:16 AM

Sasha is probably really busy getting race cars prepped (including his own).

Probably because he isn't a registered vendor on this site ie. pays for server capacity

Have you tried contacting DMT and seeing if they would tune with OFT?
Here are a few of my friends cars that they have worked on:

Who is DMT? Is that definitive? I will Google it.

I'm not stuck on using OFT, but it would obviously be best for me cost wise if it is possible, that's all.

I think it's reasonable to wait 2 days for a reply from someone who sells a service. I also think that no matter how high the demand, its kinda weird to give your money to someone that wont even reply to you. We will see...

wbradley 05-26-2015 12:06 PM

Anyone heard of Ultimate Racing (ultimate-racing.com)? They are listed as Ecutek dealers in the Toronto area.

wparsons 05-26-2015 12:07 PM

If you're paying for a tuner to tune your car, EcuTek is probably going to end up being cheaper.

The tablet is ~$500 US, plus their time to tune it. If they're learning the RomRaider tuning software while they're tuning it's going to take much longer than using the tools they're compfortable with.

EcuTek cable/license is about $650 US, the cost difference is going to be made up with about an hour of dyno/tuning time, I would bet it takes more than an hour longer to do the tuning using OFT than using EcuTek.

Whoever you go with, ask them how many FRS/BRZ's they've tuned with a similar configuration to yours. You don't want to be the guinea pig.

DMT is Dynamotorsports http://www.dynamotorsports.ca/main.htm

Some of you may recognize these cars.

If they would tune with OFT that would save a bunch of people a fair amount of cash.

I had Ultimate Racing exhaust for my 05 STi. I got it installed and tuned at Definitive a few years back (2012 IIRC) before my FRS. He does a lot of WRX and STi tunes.

I just talked to Mike to inquire about the Ultimate Racing exhaust for the FRS and pricing for Ecutek. He says he tries not to do installations during this time of year because he is busy with tunes unless you want a full turbo install or just a bolt on CAI or something.

Found out also that Definitive tunes the Canadian Touring Car Championship Factory Honda and a couple of CSCS cars and just did a BRZ Turbo.

Two days and still no reply from Sasha.

Maybe I don't understand how he works, or I am anxious but how long would he take to reply to an appointment request??

drewbot 05-27-2015 03:29 PM

Maybe ask @BatStig how long Sasha took for him....

I had quick responses to all of my emails from Sasha, but I was in contact with him around Jan-Feb, not during race season. You can see his schedule on his website. He's a pretty busy dude this time of year. http://www.onpointdyno.com/?p=2414

I requested an appt on a block that is not yet booked. Maybe he dodnt like my asking if he could do an OFT tune:D though I did say if not I would go with Ecutek.

wbradley 05-27-2015 09:07 PM

Dropped the car off at iGarage this evening. Ivan seems like a nice guy. Hopefully he'll do a great job. He said Sasha is probably super busy, gotta be patient and wait to hear from him. In the meantime I have the HKS F-Con which will provide a safe tune, just not up to its full potential.

drewbot 05-27-2015 10:06 PM

Ivan always seems to have a few twins outside his shop. I've gone to him a few times and he always comes through. I didn't know he worked with someone in that area for tuning, unless he's just doing to SC install?

Correct, he's handling the install, which include the HKS F-Con piggyback for the ecu to make the car drivable until its custom tuned.

Myv 05-27-2015 11:01 PM

Ivan is a great guy :) Just make sure to do an inspection before you leave, any mechanic can make mistakes.

Wil you also have the cold start high idle adjusted as well as the valve timing to reduce noise at cold startup?
