Who wants vinyled red-out tails?

So guys, I'm wondering who wants red out tail light vinyl?
I'm thinking if we all chip in we can just buy a roll and save on cost.

I never had good experiences with pre-cut kits so I always bought the roll myself... but I have a ton of gloss black and "smoke" tint left over, so I don't really want to spend money on a roll of red I will never be able to use by myself.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in chipping in for a roll and I could help with install?

I live in West LA, near Santa Monica.

Subscribing for updates.

How much does one roll cost?

To make it cost effective, probably looking at, at least the $150-250 roll sizes.

And this is the brand I'm looking at

http://www.lamin-x.com/Lamin-x-Color-Films-s/1367.htm

I normally use Oracal stuff just like Bluebatmobile and all the other overlay guys, but I want to try different material. Oracal is actually pretty difficult to install.

Godzilla35 06-16-2012 07:40 AM

If I can get enough people "signed up" maybe I'll just front the costs and buy it. But I might need to take a small paypal deposit so people don't flake on me.

Gaiakai 06-16-2012 09:12 AM

I'd be interested in something like this. Red + light smoke

GodSays 06-16-2012 09:17 AM

I heard from some guy that does wrapping that the shape of the light makes em real difficult to damn near impossible to wrap

^ Interesting... So I guess painting over them would be the best choice?

Yep. He's one of the best in my area and he said he couldn't do it and he uses the same material you guys are considering ordering

My friend just had his wrapped. They said the hardest thing on the taillight is that little vortex generator thing on the side. The installer said that little thing was a PITA.

I was thinking of blacking those two VGs out on mine. Dont know that that would make a difference in wrapping though.

I'll get some pics when I see him again. Probably Monday. The ones he sent me are just way too blurry.

Godzilla35 06-18-2012 03:41 AM

Yeah, like I said, I've done a bunch of cars, and I wouldn't mind helping out. I just don't want to order a whole for myself. I guess I can just buy enough for me, but if I mess up, I don't want to have to order more.

Also, I ended up picking up a Raven (Black) FRS instead of a Firestorm (Red), so now I don't know if I want to do smoke or redout or both...

I have smoke vinyl so I will try it tomorrow and see if I like it. I'll post pics, you guys post pics too! Paint / vinyl / smoke / red ... anything!

Hit up Precision Dynamix. They're located in Irvine, CA.
They have huge group buy savings on this stuff.. especially full on vehicle wraps.
And they can wrap ANYTHING lol

This is the car they actually just did:

If it were only for the tail lights I would be down. Not into the whole wrapped car look.

...would they do something with Hello Kitty for my car? ^_^

Calidrifter 06-20-2012 01:37 PM

They probably could. You would most likely need to see if they have a programable cutter.

If I wasn't planning on Hello Kitty-fying my car, I'd wanna put in for this, but I'm probably not gonna be the best candidate for you guys. :sigh:

Godzilla35 06-21-2012 03:59 AM

Mike and I are gonna work on some really good kits for you guys, stay tuned!

You guys still need a car for fitment.. We are using my car to develop a full lip kit and custom rims, but I wouldnt mind helping develop some light films with you. I am located in Torrance and am actually in the car wrapping business myself. Im going to Sema in November and am looking for sponsors.

Godzilla35 11-20-2012 09:00 PM

I unfriended Mike and I gave up.
You guys can read how long it has been.
Still no word, nothing except "they don't have the film in stock yet"...
So much for a sponsorship.

I'm not working with a company like Precision Dynamix

Godzilla35 11-20-2012 09:02 PM

I got in contact with some reps at the 3M booth at SEMA , and let's just say 3M owes me a favor because of what I'm going through with their previous gen clearbra... so I got a sneak peak at some wraps / stuff they're coming out with.

I will probably use the same contact to get some clear red film to mess around with in the near future. I just have a ton of stuff (remodeling my home) to do currently so the FR-S is going to sit stock for awhile.

rikdrt1 11-21-2012 12:22 AM

I know Bat and his installer too. I've bought from him multiple times and he's a cool guy, but his installer messed up my G35 a long time ago... which is why I started to learn how to wrap myself.

And his kits are over priced for what they are. I don't need precut stuff, I just need some good quality material.

deedz 11-26-2012 11:34 PM

If you guys are lookin to get some quality local vinyl work done I can help you guys out! Just let me know :)
