Thoughts on 3 years of ownership

Today marks 3 years since I got my FR-S. This last year has been pretty uneventful, the car is still running like a top. Passed 32K on the odo, only 8K since my post last year. That is due mostly to living much closer to work. My cricket companions are alive and well but I hardly notice any more. No further issues with the tail lights and nothing but normal service done on the car.

I don't find myself out driving just to drive anymore but I do throw out the tail end when the urge strikes. I have also been much less active in the Dallas owners group, partially due to getting married and partly due to having less in common with them. Many of the newer members are deeply involved with modding and I am still not pursuing any upgrades until the car is paid off. I keep in touch with a few of the guys so I haven't entirely disappeared.

I do see more and more of the twins on the road and enjoy seeing the smiles on the other driver's faces as we wave and pass by. I have spoken to a couple who I encountered in parking lots and it always reminds me just how much I love this car.

One strange experience I had this year was a call from the dealer who sold me my car, wanting me to come trade it in. It seems that the resale market has been good and there has been several prospective buyers looking for used twins. Of course I turned him down, I will not be trading in my ride.

All in all it has been a wonderful 3 years and I continue to look forward to the day when I actually own the car and will allow myself to start tweaking it more to my liking. Here is to year 4 being a great one!

The only downside I've really seen on mine so far is limited trunk space, but that's less of a concern than anything else. If necessary, there's also 2 trucks and an suv in my household.

Glad to hear it's been trouble free for you.

HATED1 05-22-2015 11:07 AM

I'm in the same boat as you! Loving the car at 58,000+miles! Setting up meets and more track days so that I can share my knowledge and joy with others!

!

Glad you didn't fall for this ploy. It is a common thing for dealers to do and in reality it has nothing to do with the demand for your used car. My wife fell for this a few years back when she received a call saying that people really wanted her car used. She did get a good deal on it but the very next day I saw it and a some other "high demand" trade in being loaded onto a truck to go to auction so have serious doubts the dealer had buyers all lined up for it.

Pekingduck 05-22-2015 11:35 AM

I find dealers just say that to try to get you in to buy another car.

Yep. In fact they go to great expense with flyers and advertising to say the "need used cars for stock" and then don't keep them anyway. It gets people in the door though and that is half the battle for sales.

Yea, I have a Chevy, Ford, Scion, Honda, Volvo in the home fleet. Annually I get at least one mailer from each of the local dealers of these brands "begging" me to come in and trade the cars in to help them meet demand. 3 of the 5 I actually bought used to begin with but I'm on their mailing list so I get the offer.

Wish i would get flyer demanding my IS

Pretty much word-for-word what I would have posted since I bought mine as soon as they came out. I have been beating on it since day one.

dank 8k? I'm hoping for 8k...so far 1.5k in 2 months. Time to use other car for dd (has 328k). I might hit 13k-15k if I keep this up on the FR-S.

Nice to hear your car is doing good.

lol, I put 4,500 miles on my car in 7 weeks at my new job

But it's ok, because i'm moving 3 miles away from it soon.

Glad you're still liking your car. It's a nice change of pace from everyone crying about fuel pumps and road noise in a sports car.

I still have an older VW Passat in great condition. I take it around a couple miles once a week so it stays in shape, but that short drive is enough to make me appreciate how amazing it is to drive the 86. I don't want to sell the VW for fear that I will get desensitized and start taking the 86's handling for granted if it becomes my only car.

I almost got out of the road the other day on the Passat taking a curve the way I am now used to with my BRZ:burnrubber:

I'm actually putting on about the same number of miles on my car ... but somehow it dossnt matter to me much since I am having a blast driving it. I guess to me it is worth it to just enjoy the car for what it was meant for. Although keeping it clean is kind of a pain, 2 washes per week :)

I have a 55 mile commute each way through downtown Atlanta. So my commutes are about 2 hours on a good day and 3 on a bad, each way in bumper to bumper. So I'm excited to have a ten minute commute! It'll basically give me back 5 hours a day back to my life. My clutch will probably live longer too not in constant gridlock.

wow 55 miles each way, that's crazy!

I'm the opposite of this. I've had my 2013 FR-S since the first week of December 2012 and I'm about to hit 12k miles on it...

Well I knew that going into the job, so I knew I would be suffering until I found a place close by haha. So I'll be in your shoes soon hopefully. I hate racking up so many miles in such a short time.

gravitylover 05-24-2015 09:14 AM

I've had the car since November 1st and have done over 16,000 miles, bought it with 14,600 and when I got gas last night it was at 31,360. Cars are meant to be driven.

raven1231 05-24-2015 09:20 AM

Good to hear you're still loving your twin bud! I still love mine as well but was very blown away by the newwrx too. On a side note that dealer trade in crap is a Sham they just Tet to get you to uptrade and finance more.

I have a 107 km commute to the office. Although I only do that for 3 or 4 months of the year as most of my time is spent out in the field. And luckily I got a company truck, so I was able to keep a lot of the kilometres off. Although after doing the commute for 3 or 4 weeks and seeing 4000 km on my car at the end, it was a crazy feeing knowing I racked up the mileage so quickly!

FR-Shred 05-24-2015 10:37 AM

I've only had mine for just over a month. I put just about 800 miles on it in that time which will average about 9xxx miles a year at this rate. I think I am happy and content with that. I MIGHT buy a beater for the winter tho too which will cut back probably 3k miles or so. we will see!

tdoggy57 05-27-2015 04:55 AM

I will be hitting the 3 year mark on June 15. Im at just over 36k miles right now. No issues besides taillights and squeaky window, normal mait....im buying the car after the lease so that says a lot about how i feel.

Still love it

Doing the same thing - I initially leased mine to tide me over until we bought a house and could drop a huge chunk of savings on a nicer sports car to keep very long term as a toy - in just 3 months I have already decided to keep it and crossed the 370z I was planning on buying off the list and crated a new savings account at my bank named "racecar" just waiting for the warranty to expire.

June 5th

is my 3 year anniversary. Romance is still full blown. Will be buying out at lease end and to satiate my wife's need for more power will have this as my daily and will be buying either the CLA AMG45 or the supercharged Jaguar XE for my wife ( weekdays ) and weekend family car.
