Anybody use these?

I'm looking at this one? Seems good.

Any recommendations welcomed

I got a BlackVue DR500GW-HD a while back with black magic pro (so if car is off and it shakes or someone walk in front, it'll start recording). But I think it's expensive, there are cheaper alternatives that works just as well.

It's nice to have software support though, I can grab the video off my phone asap, the camera has built in WiFi so it acts as a WiFi point that you can connect to. If you are close enough while car is off, you can stream what it's capturing from phone.

The mini series dashcams are pretty good for their price. However the one you linked was the first version to come out. You can get the latest version (0806) for around the same price. I have the 0806 and its great. You can check out my build journal for pictures on where I mounted it and a sample video of the quality

I have the Blackvue DR500W-HD, I would stay away from it. Mine seems to be bricked and I have no idea how to fix it.

Theres a huge thread on Redflagdeals though regarding dashcam suggestions that you should check out if you're really interested in purchasing one.

That sucks... :/ Did you contact Pittasoft about it? But I agree, I would look for something else if I'd to buy another one.

I'll drop this link here. https://dashcamtalk.com

Helped me a lot with making a decision on what to get.

drewbot 05-14-2015 02:25 PM

Most of the newish dash cams have a great feature set and the quality is good enough IMO.

My dash cam has successfully caught someone backing into my car, so by saving me the deductible right there has already paid itself over twice...

If you wanna see how I wired it all together let me know and I can show you in person

Yes I did e-mail them but since I didn't have the original receipt as it was purchased for me while a friend was in Korea it would have been too much of a hassle plus shipping w/tracking would cost too much and take way too long.

So i'm just going to buy another dashcam and resuse my current wiring since I hardwired everything to the magic box already.

Also does anyone know if the magic box works for any dashcam? or just blackvue only devices

Should work but you need to check the min voltage of the new device vs. the cutoff voltage of the magic box (you don't want your dash cam to shutoff before the magic box does)

Should be fine, though

I have used the same dashcam for over a year now. it is very good so far except it felt from the windshield once, so i had to go to homedepot for a better 3M tape.
I also ran the wire hidden inside the panels and used the 12V outlet inside the glove box.
If you dig around, you will find one that is below $100 bucks. But there are knock off versions, you can go to dashcam.com to see which retailer sells the real one.

I have a FineVu CR500HD myself. Hardwired it so it's on 24/7.

The newer version 0805 is on sale for $69.99 USD at gearbest with coupon code: GB0805

I think the sale is on for another day or two.

I have a DOD Tech LS430W

This is the link to the LS460, the replacement (it appears that Best Buy no longer sells the LS460, but somehow the LS430W made it back on their website): http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/...4192757a09en02

Here's a link to a night video sample:
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6hjHzOImkY&spfreload=10"]Drunk Driver - YouTube[/ame]

Its pricy, but its the first camera that I've owned that has lasted more than a year. I've been quite happy with it. All the sub-$100 cameras that I have had either overheat, eat SD cards or just simply crap out and stop recording.

Mr.Impreza 05-19-2015 05:26 PM

ilaw you are my hero! Bravo reporting his ass!

Yeah i almost want to buy from staples or best buy just cause it's easier to return if something happens compared to online.

Really need to pick one up, especially in Woodbride where there is a crash on Weston Rd. everyday..-__-

I hate drunk drivers. The lack of respect they have for others by endangering lives is unforgivable. I hope they all get caught.

Anyways, back to the dash cam, Best Buy arguably has the best return exchange policy. If it helps influence your decision at all, another reason why I like DOD Tech is because they have an office in Markham. I can go there for any warranty claims. Most other dash cam manufacturers have support somewhere in India or China, and they are pretty useless.

Good luck.

I had the mini 0806 and it worked fine for about 1 month and then the connection between the mount and camera worsened to the point it would constantly go on and off. Nothing I did could remedy it so I ultimately threw it out

It's cheap but you get what you pay for.

I have since gotten a blackvue and have been extremely happy with it.

I'm using the Genius 650 and it works well very very clear picture.

Same here but mine came out of box not working properly. I sent it back for a BlackVue.

I bought a G1W-C from foxoffer and it's a great camera, it took about 2-3 weeks to arrive from China though..

I got the blackvue DR650-GW-2ch and it's pricey..but awesome. It has a front and rear camera and the software is pretty decent. The camera quality is amazing though. The rear camera is great just in case if someone hits you from behind.

After numerous incidents that could've paid for a blackvue I am finally gonna get a dash cam. There are two people in here that are against blackvue but I've heard nothing but good about them. I had my eye on the DR400GW-HD for a while but that's outdated so currently trying to get the DR500GW-HD. Any reason to go another route? Because I pretty much am set on this one, especially with the Power Magic, that's the big selling point for me.

drewbot 06-01-2015 05:41 PM

@uEih the power magic is not specific to Blackvue. Other manufacturers produce the same product and you can also use the power magic on non-Blackvue dashcams

just bought this one, coming in from China, read reviews, seems like a good camera for the price.

This (https://dashcamtalk.com/) has been my bible for learning everything dashcam for the last couple of years. I was debating between the Mini 0806 and the new Panorama G (aka the Street Guardian SGZC12SG), but I'm going to go with the Panorama since it has the support and features I'm interested in (G-sensor, parking mode, etc.)

I'd recommend reading through that site for a wealth of info and then google through the forums (use site:dashcamtalk.com in the search if you didn't know about this feature ;) ) to find the up to date specs and rumours/info. :D happy hunting
