New FR-S Commercial

Saw this new commercial on MTV and ESPN a couple of days ago:

SUB-FT86 05-07-2015 09:02 PM

I love it!

Rampage 05-07-2015 09:18 PM

That is much, much better than some of their hipster inspired crap than they have tried before. Maybe they have finally figured out the type of people (mostly guys) that buy these cars and why.

It only took them 3 years!

MikeyBatz 05-07-2015 09:33 PM

"Plenty of Power" hehe nice try Scion

Turbo95eg6 05-07-2015 10:23 PM

I saw. I cringed.

Clipdat 05-07-2015 10:31 PM

I loved the part where it had plenty of power. Good times.

Teseo 05-07-2015 11:21 PM

More power? Mine doesnt have it. Its broken?

fang_gt86 05-07-2015 11:28 PM

That's more like it. The old team that made the previous ones must've got fired.

Mr.Impreza 05-07-2015 11:34 PM

This is a much better commercial and pleasing actors that represent the target buyers.

extrashaky 05-07-2015 11:46 PM

It's just a little bit gay though.

(Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

themajesticone 05-07-2015 11:52 PM

"its got plenty of power"

- Nobody

This commercial sucks. Is it trying to appeal to the wannabe-yuppie-frat-hipster?

Bristecom 05-08-2015 12:55 AM

It's not too bad but the Subaru promos seem to be a lot better at invoking emotion. Like the one where the guy just takes his time driving around and forgets his worries. No words need be said with this car. It's all about the feels. :P

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I58ZSqwFlWw"][SUBARU] 2013MY SUBARU BRZ Promotional Video "Out to drive" - YouTube[/ame]

And the Japanese one where the father and son fight but sort of make up over the car. That one kind of hit home for me.

But this Scion ad just seems to play off one very simplistic emotion: envy. The other dude seems surprised when he sees him in the car, asks him about it and is impressed by it. Making people jealous/envious of me and/or my car is not really my goal. Especially when it's other guys.

look at 0:08
no way is that stock height

Kryptik319 05-08-2015 12:57 AM

I love it haha. Also giggle at the "Has plenty of power" comment. I wonder if they threw that in there just to tease us.

Veloist 05-08-2015 01:03 AM

My favorite part was....

"this is it"

"...nah"

Hahaha that's what I would do. Great how they show driving enthusiasm there :)

Right there in the video at that point: "vehicle shown with optional equipment".

TRD springs?

It's psychological. If they hear it on a commercial, the average person is more likely to believe it and check it out; even though it is certainly somewhat disingenuous.

These are proper commercials. I never thought I would love a BRZ short drama. Feature length film perhaps?! :P

Wise 05-08-2015 01:23 AM

This one is still my favourite. Dorifto King

-Plenty

The Japanese one always hits right in the feels... Asian commercials are either really strange or really emotional. Look up YouTube, Asian insurance commercial daddy is a liar.

Bonburner 05-08-2015 01:40 AM

mm plenty of power - what a troll hahahaha

chaoskaze 05-08-2015 08:33 AM

This one is actually decent from scion /thumbup.

snow 05-08-2015 09:08 AM

The BRZ commercial is hands down way better then the FRS... I guess that have different target audience or markets...

Would have been a good twist ending in the first BRZ one if some dude in an FRS picked up the chick abandoned at the restaurant and they went and scooped the poor dog! Could do a whole movie on that theme and call it the "Plenty and the Lonely"

wbradley 05-08-2015 09:17 AM

Plenty of power...optional equipment includes OFT Stg 2 and UEL header. LOL

Kimsey47 05-08-2015 09:26 AM

Did I miss a rainbow bumper sticker???? Just seemed like dude ordered a Uber ride and the FR-S was the car that arrived. Not gay at all... I find myself always needing to talk myself out of driving the long way home in my BRZ!

Mr.Impreza 05-08-2015 11:05 AM

I think this car has plenty of power for an everyday driver or normal people who don't sit on forums all day and talk about cars like us.
Ideally, 220 would be perfect for me though :)

Tcoat, I see you more often than my wife haha

Dake 05-08-2015 11:35 AM

The older Scion commercials may have been embarrassing, but I wouldn't call this one "good", just better.

I kept expecting a voice over in the BRZ commercial that says, "BRZ is not meant for people with heart conditions. If a road trip lasts more than four hours consult your doctor."

"Optional equipment" would explain the power comment, they just won't make the options available.

Actually when talking about advertising it is totally on topic. Wrong yes, but on topic.

2nd one hit me right in the feels.

rucfj159 05-08-2015 01:22 PM

its a whole lot better than the garbage they had been doing with the artists and shit.
that being said still room for improvement.

Loads of room I would say. At least this one try's to put a little excitement into the visuals. The first Canadian commercial was just the car bouncing down the road in a straight line.

rucfj159 05-08-2015 01:34 PM

you would think with scions customization focused sales pitch they would reach out to the people who actually bought the car, and ask for some input about why we bought them. I'm sure a few people on here could make a better commercial about a car that we enjoy and why we enjoy it than some ad agency.

They have, I've gotten requests to do survey's from a marketing research company. I went ahead and did it because I got entered for prizes. :iono:
