1st post handed over to WingsofWar because I don't have time to maintain this topic anymore.

DarrenDriven 06-14-2012 04:35 PM

Intrax, Tokico and Suspension Techniques emailed, waiting for a response.

I called H&R and they have springs in R&D that should be available in two months.

Draco-REX 06-14-2012 04:47 PM

RaceComp Engineering "Yellow" springs will be a 20mm drop F/R with 250in/lb rates front and rear. They are due out in July. (which can't come fast enough, I want these springs!)

I believe they will be also releasing "Black" springs which will have milder drops and rates. But no info on those yet as far as I know.

denkigrve 06-14-2012 04:49 PM

You should add RS*R iSport coil overs. I went directly through RS*R.

The front +/- is 0/-40
The rear +/- is -5/-50

Max adjustable range is:
F: +10/-40
R: +25/-80

Spring rates are:
F: 6kg
R: 7kg

Item code from their site is:
SPIF065MP

Price SHIPPED to my door after assembly in Japan was $2600

denkigrve 06-14-2012 04:53 PM

Tein already has the Flex and mono-flex listed. No dates yet though.

Cusco also has their coil overs, and I know a few vendors have them or can get them soon as well.

DarrenDriven 06-14-2012 04:53 PM

Thanks Draco-REX, I added them to the list.

86_ZN6 06-14-2012 05:02 PM

jdm TRD springs 15mm drop priced around $500

wow that's only half an inch drop

I was able to find the Flex info on Tein's site, but nothing about the Mono Flex. I am adding this stuff to the list right now...

I wasn't able to find any information on these... only the TRD coilovers:
http://www.trdparts.jp/english/86_pe...s_chassis.html

Can you point me to the info on the springs?

that's the same one i was talking about

i believe those are not coilovers, but rather a shock and spring combo set but not really sure

you can purchase them as a set or separately

DarrenDriven 06-14-2012 05:23 PM

Ahhh... it appears that the shocks are threaded-adjustable coilover type and the fine print indicates that they are shipped with the height at 15mm. That doesn't necessarily mean that the springs are a 15mm drop, right?

86_ZN6 06-14-2012 05:28 PM

yeah i was reading it again and yes you're right. they can adjusted to a lower height.

but i read somewhere that you can use the springs on the stock shocks. but you only get that 15mm drop.

that's why they are selling the springs separately

DarrenDriven 06-14-2012 05:44 PM

I'm gonna leave the TRD info as TBD until we actually get better info, but they are up on the list now.

Racecomp Engineering 06-14-2012 05:50 PM

You need to include spring rates here....that's a very important piece of information to those buying springs.

- Andrew

DarrenDriven 06-14-2012 05:56 PM

What I am going to do instead is create a topic for each item that will contain more information, such as user reviews, etc. If I try to put any more information into the list then it wraps and screws up the formatting. Grrr. Maybe I will ditch the best price thing and include spring rates instead...

ebphoto 06-14-2012 06:15 PM

Fortune Auto also has coilovers available for the FR-S.

Racecomp Engineering 06-14-2012 06:16 PM

Or get rid of part number or something. A separate thread for each would be really cool.

Definitely appreciate gathering this info!

Racecomp Engineering 06-14-2012 06:47 PM

Sweet! Our yellow springs are 250 lbs/in front and rear. (aka 4.46 kg/mm)

- andrew

coyote 06-14-2012 07:03 PM

Not all will offer equal rates front and rear, so they really require separate columns. Price is not a good thing to try and keep up to date on a static page anyway.

MattR 06-15-2012 11:08 AM

Thanks for this thread Darren.

A tip you might want to add to the post for those wanting to convert lbs/in to kg/mm and vice-versa. Just ask Google.

For example, the RaceComp Springs: Google "250 lbs/in to kg/mm" = 4.46kg/mm

7thgear 06-15-2012 11:19 AM

how about springs that raise the car about an inch and have a softer rate?

i wouldn't mind paying 300 or so bucks for a set of springs i can throw on in the winter rather than 3000 coilovers.

Good idea, I am still working out the kinks. :) I'll fix this soon, but too busy driving my car today to worry about it.

DarrenDriven 06-16-2012 04:40 AM

Updated Tein H-Tech specs:
Spring Rate: 4.6k-Front spring rate: 3.0k-Rear spring rate
Drop Height: -25 mm Front -20mm Rear

I don't know why'd you want to do this, stock the car has plenty of ground clearance for winter. BUT you don't need different springs to go taller, just some 1" poly spring spacers... The 4X4 world has been doing this for decades to level out vehicles and even gain some extra lift. I think you can even get spacers like this for some Subaru cars with "saggy but syndrome."

simpleisbest 06-16-2012 01:37 PM

Can you add a list for available shocks?

DarrenDriven 06-16-2012 02:48 PM

Sure, post up some shock information and I will create a list for that.

BlaineWasHere 06-16-2012 04:30 PM

I don't know there is much info out there about this type of thing yet, but, what about more racing oriented coils like Penske or Motoul?

DarrenDriven 06-17-2012 04:08 AM

I dunno, post the info here and I will add it to the list!

DarrenDriven 06-18-2012 01:41 PM

Also, I contacted Intrax Suspension and they responded...

Quote:

Hi Darren,

About the FT86/BRZ or FR-S it is sad but we only get the BRZ version here in the Netherlands.
But for a small company like us we are depending on the cars that we get offered to make a set for.
We do not have the budget to make sets for every car.
So at this moment we do not have anything that we can give to you.

With kind regards,

Erwin van Arkel
Intrax

Hehe... yeah, plenty might be pushing it, but I am pretty amazed that I haven't yet scraped that long front nose on a driveway yet. It sticks WAY out there and there is enough ground clearance to keep it from painting driveways metallic gray.

ebphoto 06-18-2012 02:36 PM

i have the FA 500 on order... will post up spring rates whenever i get them.

DarrenDriven 06-18-2012 03:00 PM

Cool. I have the Eibach springs, BR Racing coilovers and KW V3 coilovers on the way, so I should be able to verify the specs on those, too.

I know PLENTY about winter driving with very very little ground clearance. Reference my GTI:

What... really? Why all 3?

Sleeperz 06-18-2012 09:26 PM

How about a few lines for the stock FRS/BRZ spring rates and a review of the stock setup and why would people be spending 2+K for coil overs with a brand new car.
I guess already the shocks/struts being twintube are at disadvantage and inexpensive are for the OEM to keep cost down.

-sz

denkigrve 06-19-2012 12:11 AM

The spring rates for the Tein S Tech's are really strange. Why go stiffer front softer back? Those sound like typical drift setup spring rates for an AE86 style setup. I dunno if changing the spring rates that differently from the stocks ratios is a wise plan.
