2016 FRS - Update?

After doing a quick search on this forum and on Google, the only pictures of a 2016 FRS are concept vehicles.

Does anyone have any news on substantial facelifts/updates/changes to the FRS for MY2016?

:thanks:

Marco_86 04-25-2015 06:09 PM

It's gonna be turbocharged.

Cole 04-25-2015 06:11 PM

The red and ultramarine colours have changed. That is all.

tazz786 04-25-2015 06:11 PM

just a rumor but 2015 was suppose to be the last model year coming out. Again...just a rumor.

thill 04-25-2015 06:29 PM

A. It's going to have a turbo charged engine.
B. It's going to be AWD.
C. There is no 2016 model.
D. There will be some typical changes like some colors, and maybe a new bolt in the suspension, etc.
E. A and B
F. All of the above
G. None of the above.

I'm guessing 2015 rebadged into 2016

stevesnj 04-25-2015 06:56 PM

It is on toyota's domestic site, 2 new colors and version "CB" marketed towards women, also stiffer front strut bolts, and doubled up metal in the rear crossmember for less flex. Scion usually officially makes an announcement on their site about mid to late May.

Version "Cb" http://toyota.jp/86/grade/special/

Goddamnit I got excited for a second.

Still putting this out there, I will pay a modest amount for a front bumper CB conversion kit for a 2013 FR-S.

stevesnj 04-25-2015 07:10 PM

Here's the changes from Moto-P a trusted source on the 86. I stand corrected on my earlier post. This info is not about the 2015 but the 2016.

really tiny enhancements were made such as programming logic of the power steering to accommodate a more dynamic driving scenario when in Sport mode VSC. While this has been mostly to address some complaints for overly aggressive safety over-ride of the Vehicle Stability Control systems, in OFF mode, it will allow the driver to drive it as “pure” as an old analog car as any sports car should, just as before. The 2015 models also already has thicker rear panels for additional rigidity to address some slight tweaking noticed when users actually went ballistic with motorsports events using the stickiest of tires. But this hasn’t been a huge difference as most of the users of this genre modify their cars enough to address stuff like this. A famous change also is the main front strut bolt which became bigger as well, which was hyped in Japan as adding a more linear feel to the car. But this too, is really a small change that matters to only a handful of owners, as we all add camber-correction bolts to get this up to par for serious motorsports as well from aftermarket sources, along with one of the most common modification, that is coil-over suspension systems.

Quote from moto's Xacar 86&BRZ April issue translation.

D-Series 86/BRZ/FRS

Tiny Enhancements were made such as programming logic of the power steering to accommodate a more dynamic driving scenario when in Sport mode VSC. While this has been mostly to address some complaints for overly aggressive safety over-ride of the Vehicle Stability Control systems, in OFF mode, it will allow the driver to drive it as “pure” as an old analog car as any sports car should, just as before.

^ This is mainly made for ppl with high grip tires.

The Japanese 2015 models (2016 for US) also has thicker rear panels for additional rigidity to address some slight tweaking noticed when users actually went ballistic with motorsports events using the stickiest of tires. But this hasn’t been a huge difference as most of the users of this genre modify their cars enough to address stuff like this.

^Also help correct how floaty the car feels under certain condition.

On the interior department, Japanese 2015 models have been graced with a tan/black interior combination available in the US

^I posted a photo of it at another thread

Satin silver interior trim (though we have them on the Limited Edition FRS RS1.0 in the USA in volume of 1500.

The colors haven’t been changed aside from the slight shift of the red to a lighter red, now called “Pure Red” from Lighting Red before, as well as Aslight Blue, changed from Galaxy Blue Silica, making the dark blue even darker for Toyota 86 and Scion FRS, while the BRZ’s WR Blue has shifted to a lighter version called “Lapis Blue Pearl.”

Tan interior (photo from magazines, sorry for the quality)

These kind of jokes are getting as old as these types of threads...

On that note, the 2016's are gonna come with VTEC.

airjonny 04-25-2015 08:58 PM

They're going to detune the engine to 90hp because "that's not what the car is about".

I disagree on this since all my RWD cars were "analog". I may just keep everything OFF even on the street just because that's how I learned to drive RWD cars. Never know.

This is the only error, I believe, on this info. The toyota site show's the color as "Azuraitoburu" (K3X) which is Subaru's color code for Lapis Blue. I think the "to" is Toyota and "buru" is well Subaru. "Azuraite" or "Azurite" is a blue copper mineral which looks like Cobalt Blue to me. If the info on the BRZ is correct the Lapis Blue will be the same on the FRS and BRZ.

Factory backup camera, new head unit in addition to the new colors.

Hmm true. Starts this May 1 as a requirement and 2018 mandatory in the US on all ADM and foreign cars.

Just so u know, I wasn't putting down my own opinion. I just add on another sentence that Moto San didn't translate. Basically engineer just fine tune the VDC for ppl with high grip tire instead of that stock setup.

Did you wait for 3years before making your first post?

keonigt 04-26-2015 01:12 AM

Any word on when the 2016's will be on the lot?

I went to my local dealer and all of the BRZs being allocated for May and June are 2015's.
I'm looking on waiting an extra month or two for a 2016.

Tromatic 04-26-2015 08:39 PM

I'd also pay money for that CB front end.

The new MY have been on the lots in mid to late June from what I found.

Tcoat 04-26-2015 08:53 PM

Can be a large variation as to when dealers get them. Anywhere from Early June right up to mid September seems to be the spread from people have historically written here.

That was last year... If 2016 MY was going to be on the lots in june, we'd already would have heard OFFICIAL word on this.

Production for the 2015's started on May 7th 2014. We got word about is back in March 2014. We haven't heard anything yet.

They might push till September (where most model years are introduced) which means we won't hear anything for another couple of months :iono:

I see you're in Hawaii. Last year the 2015's arrived at Servco Hawaii the weekend of 4th of July. Servco Hawaii also owns Subaru. Jump on the specials when they have them. I got my FRS with a 0.9% interest rate. :D

Wise 04-27-2015 01:44 AM

Man I'm glad I just jumped in and bought a 2012 86 and didn't wait for some fabled turbo model that never eventuated.

The only things that have been added to the 86 in Australia in the last 3 years have been a spoiler (Already have a Five Axis which I like better), a sharkfin (I have a Beatsonic, which once again I like better) and a reversing camera.

"azuraito" is Azurite
"buru" is basically blue

Hence, Azurite Blue.

Nothing to do with Toyota or Subaru lol.

oh good someone else saw it. I spent a while debating whether or not to correct for fear of looking like a know-it-all.

Time will tell. :party0030:

Two of the three MY FR-S's were available at dealers in June. If Scion has alternating release timeline then I would say this is true but since the 2016 is for sale in Japan gives me the suspicion of another May intro and June availability for the summertime buyers like myself.

History of dealer stock availability and announcement date's (source http://pressroom.scion.com/) ;

2013 Available at dealers June of 2012, Announced March 22,2012

2014 Available at dealers September of 2013, Announced August 15, 2013

2015 Available at dealers June 2014, Announced May 15, 2014

2016 Available at dealers June 2015 Announced May 1, 2015

Maybe a Canada thing but the 15s were not here until late August (even that timing may be different depending on region). I would expect we will have official release dates and info soon though.

stevesnj 04-27-2015 04:07 PM

From what I recall they are shipped to California first then NJ then Florida

Atticus808 04-27-2015 04:16 PM

I want to buy the car now but it's so close to the 2016's being released that I'll feel screwed over.
damnit!

I would hold out at this point anyway. Not to get a 16 but to get a better price on a new 15 or even a 14 since their value will take a shit kicking when the 16s hit the lots.

I'm hoping there will be a slight interior upgrade. I want the frs but the inside is so cheap, and seats are pretty crappy.
I want the brz premium cause the seats are better but the console is still crap.
the limited has the leather seats which are nice but I don't want a spoiler or push button start. LOL

Thanks, that's helpful... so if we go by prior history...

In odd years, they are available in June, and even years they are available in September ;)

I feel the same way. I have enough for a down payment and a few months worth of well... payments but as the saying goes "great things come to those who wait."

That saying doesn't apply to those who are waiting for a turbo though :P

so you're gonna get the 2016 you think? also how much down are you putting? I was gonna put a downpayment but I'll see how much the financing is

soulreapersteve 04-27-2015 08:41 PM

Well, the original plan is to pay outright. That would involve waiting until March-April of next year though. However, being that I am only 23 and people have been telling me to build my credit, I may take out a small loan (5 grand) and pay the rest with cash. That way, I could the car by the end of the year, depending on how much more I am willing to sacrifice in terms of monthly spendings. :)

I wouldn't pay outright if you can get like .99% financing

my original plan was to put $10 000 as a downpayment. but if I could get 0.99% I might just finance it all and invest the money I was gonna put down and buy dividend stocks. or maybe something safer to guarantee returns
