Does anyone recognize this FR-S?

I'm 99% sure I just bought this car semi recked without all the goodies;(
You can even see in the last photo where the rear fender was cut to fit the rocket bunny kit.
Does anyone know where I can find more pictures of this car or wether the previous owner was active on this forum?

Semi wrecked? As in it was in an accident or it just wasn't taken care of and missing parts like the rocket bunny fender?

Zhangy 04-21-2015 11:20 PM

Got hit in the rear. The rear was repaired and it runs. It just needs a good amount of body work and its missing some interior pieces. Thus "semi-recked" lol

I hope you checked for frame damage and got it at a super low price...could make for a great project car if that's the case...once you undo the previous owner's mistakes.

Honestly yeah I got a steal on it. My uncle knows a guy who does quality body work south of the border so the mismatched panels aren't huge issue. I really just want to contact the original owner of the car or at the very least see more of what it used to be.

I'm pretty sure that's Hillary Clinton's FR-S.

nzbrooke 04-22-2015 12:08 AM

Wow...

Look forward to seeing it restored to a normal looking car haha !

thill 04-22-2015 12:12 AM

Those front headlights are just not quite yellow enough..

Seriously? What is wrong with people. Good luck OP, this car deserves a good home.

Mainly because it's a front engine RWD coupe made by Toyota & Subaru. And yourself?

Snowblind 04-22-2015 12:39 AM

Looked like ass before the wreck.

thanks guys. Wasn't planning on posting a "restoration" thread but seems like people think it's beyond repair. Might just have to do one.

beatgenie 04-22-2015 01:41 AM

If you bought the car, how do you not know who you bought it from?

What sort of person thinks that crap looks good?

raven1231 04-22-2015 08:59 AM

I think the fenders look good like that. Keeps the rear tires cool as well. Great but OP!

Do you want the whole list? There are many on here.

SUB-FT86 04-22-2015 09:32 AM

It's funny to see the extremes of what owners do to their cars aesthetically. I love my FR-S too much to go too crazy like some folks do. To each his own though.

You wouldn't take a hack saw to it?

Defuser 04-22-2015 11:08 AM

Looks like it came straight out of District 9.

How many cans of cat food did that poor car cost you OP?

5thGenOwner 04-22-2015 11:17 AM

Is there even an engine left in it? It looks like whoever owned it, dismantled it and sold it for parts/scrap metal.

Ddreder 04-22-2015 11:18 AM

Dont let the butt holes get you down OP! Buying a car you want that needs work is an amazing way to save and even make money! Anyone who has bought a $500 car and put some work into it would understand. But a lot of people dont turn there own wrenches around here so they wouldnt get it.. ;)

I am interested to see the progress on this car. It should be fun not having to worry about the cosmetics so much and being able to focus on the mechanical stuff. Although it looks like you will probably want to go rocket bunny again lol also for me.. please.. for the love of god.. take the yellow off of the headlights! thats is all :D

rcm47 04-22-2015 11:50 AM

I've seen it at the toyota carlsbad service center before.

brandonblt2 04-22-2015 11:59 AM

To get this car back to stock looks like you just need new fenders, taillights, remove the ugly yellow from the headlights, and a repaint as long as there are no hidden structural or mechanical problems. I think most are just poking you and having little fun or over exaggerating. I personally like the rocket bunny kit V1 its nice when done tastefully and when the fenders are molded so there are not rivets showing like this build.

Edit: And if you plan on going the rocket bunny route keep the fenders if you buy new ones you just end up cutting them again.

thill 04-22-2015 12:22 PM

Not a fan of rocket bunny, but yes when pieces are molded properly and you don't have Frankenstein rivets showing everywhere it is more tolerable.

The giant wings look ridiculous on these cars. Especially if you are pushing less than 400hp to the wheels and the car would never see at track.

It just boggles my mind that people dump thousands, and sometimes tens of thousands of dollars to hack their cars up and then realize the car is probably worth less than a stock one.

Investing in a car to later sell it is flat out a bad investment usually. I have spent a few thousand on my car and have added little to no value in terms of resale, but what I added improves the overall experience of the car for me, and thats well worth the money. Its all about perspective and some people don't plan on selling there car also.

Braces 04-22-2015 01:02 PM

Salvage cars are bought all the time by individuals or companies that fix and resell .... at a profit. My father did this for years. He bought the cars from insurance companies or from the salvage yards. The cars were always sold at a steep discount due to the salvage title. The cars are not perfect, but the selling price reflects this. There is definately a market for these type of cars. Obviously not here on this forum. ;)

That's pretty much what happens on about 90% of the car shows I watch on Velocity.

Now it's a different story when you buy a new car, sink $$$$$ into it, and somehow expect it will come close to break even on resale.

Like everything else, the money is made at the buy not on the sell.

It's not about an investment. It's about preserving resale value to put into the next vehicle. Suppose I buy a $25K car that I later sell for $15K to roll into my next new car. Then suppose instead that I buy a $25K car, put a bunch of garbage on it that ruins it and then find myself lucky to sell it for $10K. Completely ignoring my sunk costs spent on the car earlier, in real dollar terms at the moment I'm looking for another car, I have $5K less to work with because I fucked up the car's resale value with my stupid body hacks, wing and turbo.

If you like that shit and never plan to sell it, do whatever makes you happy. But even the people who think they'll never sell their cars eventually decide they want something else and are too often shocked at how little they've made the car worth.

Before I bought the BRZ, I was considering trying to find a used Dodge Magnum SRT, the station wagon with the big hemi. At that time, the SRTs were going for $20K to $25K. I came across one that had 14K miles on it and watched over a period of months as the guy initially listed it at $25K, then dropped it to $20K, then $15K, then finally bottomed out at $11K and wouldn't go any lower. And he still couldn't sell the damned thing. Why? Because he had put a ridiculous neon green paint job on it, huge rims and lambo doors. Nobody wanted that shit because it would cost more than it was worth to fix it.

I'm sure when he did that, he thought he would keep it forever. Then he outgrew it. Sadly, that car will probably end up in the crusher long before it should.

MokSpeed 04-22-2015 03:48 PM

Stock pre-owned 2013 MYs aren't that expensive to begin with. I wouldn't have even considered buying this.

Choco 04-22-2015 05:48 PM

How interesting looking for a car's previous owner. Hope you find the guy! :)
