I don't think that anybody on here is a Star Wars fan.

I couldn't post fast enough on Reddit to reap front page karma, so had to resort to this site.

Well considering the thousands of Star Wars quotes and memes we use here I think you actually found a good spot!

Racecomp Engineering 04-16-2015 03:59 PM

When I was in kindergarten, I watched ROTJ on betamax just about every morning before school.

I'm pretty excited. :)

I'm so happy Disney bought the franchise and JJ Abrams is much better suited to Star Wars than Star Trek, I hope that ST passes to someone who's more passionate about the source material.

Im honestly scared it wont live up to expectations.

The problem is that even if it is the best movie ever made it will get ripped apart by the fanboys and everybody else will jump on the bandwagon.

brzaapi 04-16-2015 05:55 PM

That is true. In the end I am just happy that the Star Wars world continues to expand. Worst case scenario, I can always pop in the original trilogy.

I'm actually reading some of the new novels now.

murdoc 04-16-2015 06:09 PM

I once said I never wanted to see old han solo.

I've changed my mind.

Bailey 04-16-2015 07:05 PM

More Star Wars is always good. I can't wait.

I can appriciate the highs and lows of JJ Abrams cinematography, it wont be like lucas arts at all. But for the sake of the series the only expectation I have is follow a believable chronology.

To be fair, he probably exploded decades ago with one of his gungan grenades.

This looks pretty interesting. With disney buying the franchise, it'll be great to see what they did to 'Disney-fy' the Star Wars franchise.

If you haven't seen Disney's latest series you should check it out, it's great.

One of the things about seeing "old" Han is that this is what I've always expected since the original trilogy was released when I was in high school.

The story back then was that there were 9 movies planned with a general plot line written They did the middle first so they could do the prequel while the actors aged enough to do the final 3. It was not supposed to be this long for the series (maybe 15 years or so instead of almost 40) but that story seemed to have faded/changed along the way.

I do hope the original cast has more than a cameo role in these, but I'm guessing not.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing the Saga continue...

Teseo 04-17-2015 06:20 PM

I did not expected to see Harrison Ford

That certainly was the story up through most of the 90's when I discovered it, I don't think that changed until Lucas got through the Phantom Menace and I remember after RotS he distinctly said he wouldn't be doing any more but was open to others continuing the arc.

Star Wars primarily consists of ~9 hours of film about the Skywalker family, I don't think you have to worry about a lack of the old cast, especially with the Han Solo tease so early, if that was all we saw the whole movie there would be outrage.

I'm really excited for Mark Hamil, he's really underrated as an actor (and his voice acting is top notch, best Joker ever). Rumor has it that TFA focuses on the search for Luke, after all he is the only known Jedi at the end of TRotJ and they've retconned everything that isn't movie based, it's a whole new world. :)

Oh, wow, did you just make ME feel old! I saw the original release of Star Wars IV (New Hope) in the theatrical release the summer following my graduation from college. I've been a professional classical musician since about 1973, and almost all of it was orchestral. What I remember most vividly was sitting in the theater, having gotten through the 20th Century Fox logo with its fanfare, then a moment of silence. The "Long, long ago..." slide appeared on the screen for a few moments, and THEN: One of the loudest, most brilliant and full sounding chords ever written in the history of film scores burst forth, followed by the fanfare we all know so well. This was not only my first Star Wars film, but also my first introduction to John Williams' music. I remember thinking, "Who IS this composer?" You have to realize that this was the first extensive use of orchestra music in a film in at least a decade. It was a trend setter for every other movie to follow for years to come.

The interesting thing is that the new trailer's music score sounds like JW, but I was under the impression that he had retired from the business due to old age. Maybe they found a way to change his mind? $$$$$$$

I gave up music as a career a few years ago (after 32 years) and got retrained as a biologist, which is what I do now. Still, I do hope that John finds enough music in himself to write out a few more movies. They better get a move on, though, the man is in his 80's!

As a PC Gamer and Batman fan, I'm with you on Mark Hamil. his vocal skills at least have increased with experience. His Joker defines the character for me.

As far as TFA, that makes sense.

Definitely agree the soundtrack is what makes the movie almost above all else. In fact, the trailer inspired me to put this on the old turntable when I got home tonight. Listening to the second album right now. Purchased right after seeing the movie for the first time at the record store next to the theatre.

I have the same one, also in vinyl! Gonna put it on right now. BTW, not only is Empire Strikes Back still the standard by which all the other SW movies are measured, but so is the film score. It really is brilliant.

babydriver 04-17-2015 09:28 PM

It was really clever for John Williams to put the opening fanfare from all the SW films in the same key as the Fox fanfare that preceded them. Made it all of one piece of musical cloth!

I saw it the first time while stationed in Germany with the army. The sonofabitch Base Commander called a nuke strike drill right as the rebels were prepping for the Death Star attack. Was weeks before I got too see the end. The good part was nobody else knew how it ended either since there was no internet to mess it up for us.
