New guy. Don't have a BRZ.....yet.
Hey guys just thought I'd start this forum with a bang and introduce myself. Names Matt, 23, living in Hotlanta.
I'm a Datsun enthusiast (yeah those POS economy cars) and drive a Series 1 1970 240Z. I've never once considered buying a newer car, mostly because they don't interest me. Lately spent a lot of time considering selling off my old stuff and buying into something new for the sake of doing some fun driving without worrying about the inevitable repairs in the driveway at 2 a.m. I've also gotten some pretty intense job offers that mean I'll be doing some long commutes and traffic in Atlanta is horrendous... I've spent the last few months searching and come to the conclusion that pretty much everything in my price range is shitty in one way or another, short of the FT86 which has always peaked my interest for it's great styling, awesome handling, and huge aftermarket. I'm mainly here for the time being just to lurk and learn, and wanted to drop in and introduce myself before I start asking questions. Hope to learn a lot from you guys. Some of my current/previous DD's because sharing is caring. In for the first time before @Tcoat
Awesome ride btw OP. And that tailgate is awesome! If you end up being a fellow owner, it will be nice to have someone who already appreciates Japanese engineering. But I cant help but mention at just 29,xxx you could be in a 370. And due to current sales you could probably snatch one up cheaper. Even so, not nearly as an experience as the 86 out of the box. |
Welcome OP! I'm in the same boat as you (No BRZ/FRS yet). I've learned alot about this car thanks to this forum. I'm sure you'll do the same.

Welcome!
In regards to the earlier comment about the new Z...the funny thing is that the FRS is in some ways closer in spirit to the 240Z than the 370Z is... |
Thanks all. Funny story, I'm actually a muscle car guy at heart, but being an enthusiast, I appreciate anything with a motor. Japanese automotive culture is far more interesting and full of much more culture then current domestics.
Around my parts, dealers are listing 2015 BRZ limited's at around $27K, which is far more then I even wanted to spend honestly. But with used ones coming in around $23-24 locally it only makes sense to spend a little bit more. On another note, 370Z's are cool, but boring to me. I couldn't ever drive a car that was so mainstream and played out as the Z car has become. It's not quite the same as they were in the 70's, in fact Yutaka Katayama, the man responsible for marketing the Z and it's rise to fame in the 70's even said recently that he would rather drive a Versa then a 370Z. Coming from the father of the Z car, that's saying something.. Anyways thanks for the input guys. |
Also, the truck was amazing. I sold it last year to acquire the 240Z... wish there was some way I could have kept it.

Thanks guys, interesting to see how much you guys are paying, anyone else care to chime in on what there's cost brand new? Very curious what they're going for. A series blue for 27 seems like an amazing deal. I've yet to go to the dealer, but I'm betting I could haggle them down pretty far. I'm a salesman by trade, so I know all of the little games. My dream car is a 240 too...but this one even more so. It's a Series 1, low vin, low mileage, original....unf.... high retail on the S1 cars goes up towards 30K. I'll probably get $10K for mine. |
Don't know if you were referring to only Series Blue, but i purchased my 2014 BRZ Limited in March, still brand new, for 25k out the door. Taxes, license, etc. Probably could have haggled a bit more, but I couldnt resist. Once I sat in it, I knew I had to have it.
For what it is worth, I am very pleased I purchased a Limited as opposed to the alternative. I'd like to have the extra few K, if not for bank then for mods, but I couldn't be happier with my choice. Sweet Z. Hopefully you keep it and get it a companion. |

Whatever you do don't get rid of your Z. A first model year 240 is just going to go up in value.
