Jay showed his true colors. He may collect them but he's just another hamfisted douchebag. Gawd, it was utterly painful to watch the way he treated that thing.

I don't think so, and even if he does, so what?

Why does everyone put so much thought into what Jay Leno thinks?

"We built it to be race inspired....just let me take the splitter off so we can go for a quick spin....and....oh yah.....it over heats a bit while just driving around regularly."

Seriously though I do like the car. I'm just picking on it cuz it is fun. It really was built to be a show car so I can't be too mean. :)

Its a joke, calm down. He says it in the video that it needs power...

I don't think he's going to break it!

Eh the the heating issue was do to the thermostat. As for the splitter, it's no splitter it's a lip kit. It didn't extend back more then a few inches. However it is fairly low to be driving with a that lowers it more around town. The street should be fine but driveways would be another story. Even stock height with a lip can make u avoid driver ways...

First shakedown proves it's not built to be a race car but a showcar car that's racecar inspired. But the contest it was built for was never about lap times anyway. If they did do proper shakedown and test it I'm sure it would need better aero but it would be fast in the right hands.

Imo

Not immediately but that's a jackass move. He can wear out his own shift forks. Fuck that noise.

It will never cease to amaze me how fragile folks think manual trannys are! Over the years I have heaped every kind of abuse imaginable on a long series of gearboxes. The only one I ever managed to hurt was a '39 Ford box hooked to a '57 Chev small block. That was a box designed to handle about 80 HP, and the engine I had it hooked to was putting out about 250. And it still lasted almost 2 years! (and that was when I was 16-17 years old...I was kinda hard on cars back then!)

BTW, I almost always have my hand on the shifter. What harm do you think that might cause?

Double clutching a modern fully synchronized gearbox is an ostentatious anachronism practiced by those that pretend they are not driving a modern fully synchronized gearbox.

But...but...but Dom always double clutches in the F&F and that is a serious documentary on how to drive and uses nothing but real world physics!

Jay is a good guy. His youtube channel is also very enjoyable.

Only douchebag here is you by a longshot.

Sort of answer your own question in your following post. The modern transmission and every thing attached to it is far tighter then the old "find em and grind em" sloppy shifters of the past and resting your hand on it can indeed cause issue.
I also have had dozens of different tranny/shifter sets up and only blown one up (also by purely overpowering it) and would not use a modern one for a hand rest no matter who tells me it is fine.

I agree that there was some pretty awful shifting from Mr. Leno.

You know Jay personally? You chill with him often? Cool.
He is a rich guy that owns a pile of cars and has a slightly entertaining Youtube channel. That does not automatic make him a good driver. His driving sucked in that video.

You quoted me. Did you not get past the first sentence? I learned my lesson the hard way after my B210 started popping out of 4th.

Full disclosure, I've never seen his channel. Going to have to check him out. Strictly based on this video, his technique sets a piss-poor example. Resting one's hand on the gearshift lever for any length of time absolutely does result in excessive wear between the shift fork and the ...sleeve/slider/collar shifter thingy.

Eventually those two sliding surfaces wear down to the point the gear itself never fully engages. Takes a long time but it's absolutely a thing.

I'm one of those "Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance" types. Yeah, pretty sensitive about that stuff. Felt like an ass when I learned how I caused my own problem. Live & learn.
