looks muuuuuch better than the stock wheels... needs like a 1" drop and your set...

civicdrivr 06-13-2012 04:28 PM

A drop will be coming soon.

Symbiont 06-13-2012 04:32 PM

Absolutely gorgeous, but @ ~3500USD for a set w/o tires, I think I'll have to look for something cheaper. :(

SUB-FT86 06-13-2012 04:43 PM

It looks like the offset should've been +30. But good looking otherwise.

dori. 06-13-2012 04:48 PM

@Symbiont If you browse the used market you can have them for WAY cheaper. Or go with replicas (Rota Fighter 10/DPT), and for the price of one Volk you get a set of 4 rotas.

I have a question for @civicdrivr. I saw that you snagged these from NASIOC. What kind of offsets are WRX's and the like running? And do you know offhand if any stock wheels from other Subarus will fit (mainly concerned about caliper clearance? lmk.

Nice wheels. I always loved the CE28.

kayhettin 06-14-2012 02:05 PM

those wheels cost a grip

I wouldn't be concerned about caliper clearance. These are WRX brakes, so any WRX wheel should clear the calipers (and that means 16" stockers too!). The problem you're going to run into is high offset wide wheels; inboard clearance between the wheel/tire and the strut severely diminishes with high offset wheels that a Subaru typically runs.

I edited the photo of your car lower with those wheels. It looks hella good. I'm a bit jelly.

I was asking mainly because I was hoping to grab some stock wheels from a Impreza/Legacy w/ snow tires for cheap

The rears, probably. The front however would poke like hell. Ill take better pics of it once its dropped.

@dori. - Im sure you can run the '04 STi wheels or any of the other WRX stock wheels (as long as theyre 5x100). The 18x8.5 +45 wheels leave about 4mm of clearance between the rim and the strut assembly in the front. So with that info, you could run a 7" wide wheel with as high as a +64 offset if my math is correct. In other words, pretty much any OEM 5x100 wheel will fit.

sorry if i'm way off topic here... I just wanted to ask you...

i'm looking for an 18 inch wheel setup that won't take away too much of the "fun" aspect of this car. is there a specific width that's overkill for this car? I don't really care about track times, just want to eventually learn how to drift in it. Want to keep it as close to stock as possible.

Bahraini86 06-15-2012 01:29 PM

Springs and spacers ;)

TuxedoCartman 06-15-2012 02:33 PM

Hey, that's my car!!! LOL... I've got a Whiteout FR-S with a tow-hook license plate bracket, and any day now my gold CE-28N's should be arriving. After they do, I'm taking them down to a shop to have the lips polished, ala limited edition style.

Im actually having more fun with the wider wheels and stickier tires, but Im not really into drifting.

With the stock setup I could chirp second gear, with these tires, it wont. I've kicked the back out a few times intentionally with the new wheels when it was wet out, and it was much more predictable then the stock tires IMO.

If I were you and really wanted to use the car for drifting, just use the stock wheels and tires to learn and go from there. They are very easy to break loose.

QFT those tires were made to slide. Which now scares me that they are on Prius's... Those shouldn't be sliding...

Funny / crazy / scary thing is... I once saw a Prius FLIPPED over on Sunset Blvd... in like a 25mph section that I wouldn't trust my AWD car to take faster than 30-40. So I don't want to know how fast and wth they were doing.

I want to learn how to drift... stock tires / wheels are fine for this... but I want different wheels for looks. I don't really want to go with fitment that will totally kill the car though.

When I had 18s on my G35, it was fun and sliding was predictable... tires were cheaper. The 19s I put on were way more stable / offered way more grip, but kind of took away from the fun factor. I guess it's a personal thing, but I just want a balance of good looks and function (not matching, but at least reminiscent of the original idea of the car).

just86 06-15-2012 08:40 PM

no need drop, its perfect. evenly spaced

JadeGT86 06-20-2012 03:32 AM

I appreciate the added information, but why created a thread for one picture from another thread in the forum?

maceSWISS 07-05-2012 01:54 PM

what is the color of these wheels?
Formula Silver diamondcut rim?
Mercury Silver?
Titanium Silver?

These are the only pictures I have on my computer. The front is pretty damn flush:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...h_accad84c.jpg

The rear could use at least a 5mm spacer:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...h_9be6ebe5.jpg

I'll update the thread once the car is lowered to show how that effects offset.

gt86init 07-06-2012 03:27 PM

Looks good though! Thanks appreciate ur time!

thebear21 07-08-2012 10:27 PM

how are you liking the 18x8.5? I'm thinking 18x8 but I can't decide!

civicdrivr 07-09-2012 02:00 AM

I love them. But we'll see how sunken in they are once I lower the car. This is just my temporary set until I see how aggressive I can take it.

civicdrivr 07-23-2012 07:22 PM

Lowered:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...h_10ab012b.jpg

Front wheel facing forward, no spacer needed IMO:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...h_cb33ef25.jpg

Front wheel facing backwards:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...h_9be72adf.jpg

Rear wheel facing forward, 10mm spacer on order:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...h_2153da2e.jpg

Rear wheel facing backwards:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...h_794e3009.jpg

You could probably get away with a 3-5mm spacer for the front, but Im happy with where the sit. The rear however needs a spacer or a wider wheel/lower offset.

Nice!! looking for do a similar set up but a bit narrower.
Thanks for posting up the side pictures so I can get an idea.

rcm47 07-24-2012 03:34 AM

Does adding a spacer or going with a lower offset in the rear have the same affect as going with wider wheels in terms of handling?

Yes, the car will under steer a bit more. When I hit the track the spacers are coming off. I'm only running them for aesthetic purposes on the street.

Oh, does anyone know of any rear lateral links that aren't $600? I don't think the Whiteline camber bolts will give me enough of an adjustment. My rear camber is at -2.3* right now.
