Does anyone else suffer from the stock remote key? I can only lock/unlock my car from 4ft away. and the trunk button doesn't open alot of the times i press it.

anyone else?

i did a search and typed in "oem key" and "key sucks" and nothing came up

thanks, have a good one

Target70 04-07-2015 11:57 PM

tried replacing the battery? could just be weak

dro 04-08-2015 12:05 AM

No complaints from me. Always able to open trunk.

Ultramaroon 04-08-2015 12:14 AM

A year later and still at least a hundred yards line-of-sight.

Do you have problems way out in the burbs, or is this in the middle of the city. An electronically noisy environment will have a drastic effect on range.

N1rve 04-08-2015 12:20 AM

I can lock/unlock my car at least 100 meters away. I can see my car blink.

Jond63 04-08-2015 12:21 AM

Actually this is one of the coolest keys I've had and it works just fine for me. Like suggested maybe you should check your battery.

GreenMonster 04-08-2015 11:16 AM

Try using your head as an antenna:

https://www.google.com/search?q=hold...utf-8&oe=utf-8

or check the battery...

I'm still using the original battery in my remote for my acura w/ 180K miles and 12 years on it :iono:

I actually do this with my wife's car to remote-start her Camaro from even further away, lol...

As for my Scion key, zero complaints on range from me. Works flawlessly with good range in my experience.

5thGenOwner 04-08-2015 11:54 AM

I haven't had the FR-S for over a week, so my experience is limited. But I can say right off the bat that my (5yr old) Camaro key is much more responsive from a distance. With the Scion key, I've actually hit the door lock multiple times because it didn't seem to activate right away. It may just have a slight delay that I'm not used to.

tahdizzle 04-08-2015 11:57 AM

What's a "key"?

I asked that same question for 10 years and then had to relearn a whole new car start sequence. You have no idea how many times I still jump in the car and go to push the start button. I then berate myself for having to have a Lava that did not come with push button start and keyless entry.

KalbiCool88 04-08-2015 12:26 PM

My only complaint is that it is one ugly ass keyfob in comparison to the 2015 BRZ keyfob. Cmon Toyota/Scion you could've at least put some effort into it. Lol.

V_86 04-08-2015 12:33 PM

On the two FRS I've had, they each had slightly different range. But overall pretty good.

The start button in combo with the "caress to open"-feature adds a lot of charme to the car. I was always wondering why this didn't come as standard in all markets worldwide.

Maybe I'll crack open a brz keyfob and take the cover and use it to cover my FRS keyfob LOL

That was one of the reasons why I hated my 12 Lancer GT so much (there were many others). The 08 had the "caress to open" and it worked great and I loved it. The 12 went back to pushing a button. Not a big deal but it felt like Mitsu said "Ohhhh you guys like that feature do you. Well screw you it cost to much". They should never go backwards in tech (that works) still charge you the same amount and expect people to like it.

OverSpent 04-08-2015 02:02 PM

I just hate that I have to look at my key every time to know which button to push so I don't set off the panic instead of opening the trunk. The Industrial Design could be much better.

Dude needs to clean that nasty thing, and I'd rather have a key.

ETA: Dual zone climate control in a phone booth still makes me laugh. How much was that?

One side has more buttons than the other, and a metal piece that sticks out of one side. It's not that hard to figure out if I can do it.

Touch to unlock, touch to lock, push to start. I love it. My key never even leaves my pocket.

Be nice. I have to rake the leaves out of mine eventually.

Haha... exactly, but my wife is really sweet to me. She brings a blanket on road trips. I wonder, even if the two sides of the phone booth are fighting each other, there still might be something to that.

My mistake, I have a base with a physical key. I think it's crappy too so I incorrectly assumed that was included in the discussion.

I can't seem to memorize, if the key is forward the button is on the left... or is it the right. Where's my jacket.

Lock - Pointy end with 2 brail like dots
Unlock - Flat end and smooth
Don't touch side buttons unless looking

Hey, I will have you know that I figured that out all on my own in just 4 months!
I was sooooo proud.

OnkelC 04-08-2015 02:56 PM

Why a car key is labeled in Braille is another mystery of the first world, btw.

On a keyboard they're called home keys.

For guys like me that just want to reach into a pocket to unlock.

Although I have driven through cities that seem like all the drivers need a Braille handbook!

Side buttons are my issue. I use the trunk every day so I don't have to readjust my seat after putting my things in the back.

It just seems like one of those things I can't remember.

lionbacker54 04-08-2015 06:47 PM

OP-

are you sure that your key and cell phone are not near each other? proximity keys lose range when they are near cell phones
