San Fran/Jose Opti-Coat Group Buy

If there's anyone here that is willing to get a group buy going on an Opti-Coat install on their new FR-S, shoot me a pm. I'm currently looking for 2 people to do it with. I'll tell you the details once I get a small group going. Thanks!

NOTE: Must be in the San Francisco/San Jose area. Once these two spots are filled, there won't be anymore.

EDIT: Opti Coat group buy was a success! We had 3 FR-S's come by. One Ultramarine and two Asphalts. Special thanks to Mike for making the trip up here. I used my Droid to snap a couple of pictures but I'm no good with a camera. Enjoy anyway!*Pictures with bad lighting and angles spam*

... this just sounds absurd... :mad0259:

... how about clear-bra appliers?

Sigh, debating between either options. Optiguard/coat since I'm not much of a car waxer/washer. Clear bra cause I don't want chips. Too cheap to want to buy both lol

Bump. Still looking for someone

CU2MIKE 07-03-2012 06:34 PM

Hi all, my name is Mike. I'm the detailer that will be going up to do opti coat this weekend.
Each car will take me approximately 7 to 8 hours. if there are 3 cars then I'll most likely do one on Friday, two on Saturday, and drive back first thing on Sunday; if there are 4 cars, then Friday and Saturday will be the same, but I'll do one more car on Sunday prior to driving back down to So Cal.

Thanks for all the interest, I look forward to seeing everyone that has signed up this weekend!

Regards,

Mike

Hi Mike, I'm new to the term opti-coat, so i googled it, will this be something like the opti-coat 2.0 thickness/durability?
any drawbacks of this application? warranty etc?
i like the concept better than clear bra.

It is Opti Coat 2.0. Only drawback is that some clear bra may not work with it (I know expel ultimate has trouble sticking to paint if opti coat is on the surface).
Other minor annoyance would be like..... you don't need to wax your car? (If you actually enjoy waxing your own car once a month, lol), the surface isn't "slick" compared to a freshly polished/waxed surface.

Opti coat isn't an invincible product, so I personally don't offer any warranties what-so-ever. With that said, don't do anything stupid with it, and learn to wash your car with the correct technique (2 bucket method), and you'll have a perfect finish/near perfect finish YEAR AFTER YEAR.

Zardoman 07-03-2012 07:03 PM

Thx mike for the quick reply, If i do opti coat i would not put the clear bra on it, i'm wondering about the "slick" ness of the opti coating now that you mentioned it, can someone post a pic of freshly waxed surface and opti coating surface? or a before/after pics?
sorry if these questions have been asked already, if so, please fwd the thread so i can get a quick answer so i can decide whether to come on sat?

You can't tell the difference by naked eye, but you'll be able to "feel" the difference with your hands. an Opti coated surface is almost grabby, vs a freshly waxed surface that feels very smooth.
However, Opti coat sheets water like no others. (Even though the surface isn;t slick at all... How that's possible? I honestly have no clue)

Just wanted to give a quick shout out to Mike for doing an excellent job on my car today! If anyone is on the fence, quality was first class and very thorough. Easily 2X the usual double takes on the drive home ;)

Khalis 07-08-2012 06:44 PM

Opti Coat group buy was a success! I used my Droid to snap a couple of pictures but I'm no good with a camera. I'll share what I have in the first post.

Re~Mix 07-08-2012 09:46 PM

2 Attachment(s)
Two more pictures to add to the process. I think everyone has seen all the stages by now.

In addition to the prep work, detailing and opti-coating, Mike also helped out with the debadging process (if you're going that route)

drew935 07-13-2012 01:30 AM

I'm in the peninsula and will be doing an FRS this month.

Opti-coat 2.0 available in the San Francisco Bay Area

Yesterday Andrew from Auto Salon Works detailed my Asphalt FR-S and applied opticoat 2.0. For details and pictures, go to this url.
http://autosalonworks.blogspot.com/2...-car-prep.html
Andrew's pays great attention to detail and properly preps the car for the opticoat 2.0 application. Kudos and my sincere thanks to  Andrew. :party0030::happyanim::w00t:
