Fixable? Or new front bumper?
Hey guys, so I was driving down the freeway today and heard a noise that sounded like I blew a tire but was actually the plastic guard under my bumper, I bought the car with 9,000 miles on it and have only had the car for 2 weeks. It only has 1 bolt hooking it up where it looks like there is supposed to be 3. Dealer can't take care of it till Monday but I have work and I'm 24 so they say they can't give me a rental. Do you guys think my warranty will cover this?? My 4th car and it seems I can never just get a car with no problems:sigh: .Thanks for any advice.

new bumper or hide with lip kit :)
|
Reason why I don't buy any car used. But, good luck. Hopefully you can get that fixed up and back and running in no time.
|
I did something very similar to my car when I got stuck on a tree root last fall. I just drilled a hole at the top of the crack, so it couldn't get worse, and threw a lip on it. Couldn't hurt to see if the dealer will fix it, though.

Totaled.

My front bumper looks similarly damaged underneath (and almost in the exact same spot), though not ripped enough so it shows from the front, just underneath.
Possibly a body shop could do a repair of the plastic with epoxy. I drove over a parking bumper/stop made of concrete...rebar was sticking up. When I backed up to leave, the rebar caught the underside edge of bumper and ripped it open. Most likely a common occurrence on these cars, as they have just 4.9 inches of ground clearance...and very difficult to tell, from the driver's seat, just exactly where the front of the car is...when pulling up to a parking bumper. Wish these cars had a camera at the front of the car. Attached pic of a similar parking lot bumper... |
Seems you have so many scrapes down there.
Perhaps adjust your parking distance first for some time before fixing it. |
Stop-drill the crack/tear, buy some plastic push-rivets for the other mounting holes and call it good enough. If you're just looking for a fun daily driver, I really wouldn't worry about replacing the whole bumper. Now you won't feel bad the next time you scrape it over a parking block or curb.

You would've noticed the crack before purchase as it's formed up to the front of the bumper. Yes, it will need to be replaced.
|
So far so good. It seems pretty resilient- I've bottomed out again since getting it, and nothing bad happened.
|
Remember to drill before putting it on, though

what are your guy's opinion on putting a lip on it at stock height? would it look funny?

edit: looks like GReddy gracer |
that looks exactly like what happened to my car great comparison, thanks for the pics. the lip looks really good
|
Would be better if it was painted, that's a lot of black.
|
Yep, totally feel your pain on this. That one is, indeed, the GReddy Gracer (try saying that five times fast). I considered having it painted, but I figured I'd just bonk into something and scratch it all to hell.
|
just got word from the dealership service guy said he just needs approval from his service manager to do the work free of charge, hope it happens without problems!
|
Oooh *crosses fingers*
|
That thing really is pretty tough. I just managed to get stuck on a parking bumper thing, like a moron, and nothing seems to have been damaged. I'll be inspecting further when I have more time
|
just today?! bummer man, Beat-sonic makes front and rear cameras for the twins, check out the link.

Yep. I'm on site with a client, and managed to get the only spot in the garage with a bumper. I'll check out that camera.

Ouch that looks painful. One of the reasons why I always park tail in. You never know whats below your bumper :iono: |
So! good news, after a pretty big hastle and a lot of phone calls, he was reluctant but they are going to replace my bumper free of charge. Dublin Toyota in california gave some trouble but all is well because they are taking care of me.
