BRZ ts (yes I know its not a FR-S)
So at first I thought this might be april fools stuff but it was posted at 2 news outlets and after a day no mention of april fools.
Yes I know its a BRZ but it is still news about special versions of our car. Automobile Magazine: http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews...by-sti-driven/ MotorTrend: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...s_first_drive/ To sum it up: The moniker is still being debated for use in America, but in Japan, tS meant a BRZ that received a long list of hardware tweaks that read like standard tuner upgrades, including a cat-back exhaust, carbon-fiber rear spoiler, front chin spoiler, and 18-inch Enkei alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Brakes were upgraded to larger-diameter rotors and four-piston front and two-piston rear calipers, all by Brembo but branded STI. Also branded STI: a whole bunch of interior upgrades, including aluminum sill plates, a red ignition button, Recaro sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a special shift knob. Read more: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...#ixzz3WA3ZAIIS No power upgrades Estimated cost: $36k base |
Meh. You could easily make something better with a $25k brand new FRS/BRZ + $11,000 in aftermarket mods, even if you didn't add power.
|
Old new. The Ts exists since at least 2013. :)

I want!!! But why is the gas mileage so bad?

Oops I read that wrong. LOL
|
Gas mileage will go down due to increased grip. (greater rolling resistance)
|
Oh yeah. Recaros alone are worth the trade in.
 |
Damn it...

Best statement ever:
"If you've been holding your breath for the Subaru BRZ to get a turbocharger or some kind of power bump, it's time to exhale. It ain't coming. We put your request directly to Subaru's top brass in Japan, and it went over like asking for ketchup at a sushi bar. The response was polite but firm: Please enjoy the BRZ's lightweight feel, front-engine/rear-drive balance, and 200 naturally aspirated horses." I've been a Toyota guy before I even started Kindergarten. I'm waiting for a special edition FR-S since its Toyota after all.
But this Summer I might start working for Subaru. So I'm naturally leaning toward this now... |
Gimme a BRZ ts, and I'll slap on a CARB legal Eforce kit and thats a wrap.
You can purchase all the items from the tS now, but its much more convenient to have it from the factory that way for many reasons. Warranty, Various motorports and classing, laziness (why purchase parts and install them when you can just buy it that way), exclusivity, resale.... many reasons |

...or you can purchase BETTER parts + make your own unique creation. :P
|
You could. But you are one of 100,000 special snowflakes.
Buy a tS in japan, you are one of 500 special snowflakes. Exclusivity and resale value. None of that is aquired through modification of a base model vehicle. |

I disagree, there is nothing keeping anyone of these yahoos from recreating exactly what you did.

If one of the main concerns of a person is resale value, then perhaps they shouldn't be modifying cars to begin with. |

Resale is not my concern, in a previous post I was listing reasons why people would want those items from the factory. and Like I said in another post. There is nothing keeping someone else from recreating what you did. You are not unique. |

For instance, the sti has the better transmission, better overall drivetrain, better brakes, better wheels etc etc etc. The BRZ Ts is basically a BRZ limited with some of the extra boxes checked. So for somebody who wanted a BRZ with better brakes and better or additional interior/exterior accesories, the Ts offers that. All that would be left is maybe a set of wheels and more power if they chose. If the BRZ Ts was offered here and I chose to get one, I would simply get a set of 18" Advans, KW Coilovers, and the JR CARB legal supercharger kit and be done with it. Where as right now with a current BRZ limited, I would want those pieces in addition to: Brembo brakes, STI lip kit, gunrey flap, STI interior pieces, etc etc and the list goes on. To some people, it's worth it to spend the extra up front and less in parts, while others would rather spend less up front and spend more making it something very specific to their liking. Neither way is wrong though. |

This is essentially the debate between the FR-S/BRZ all over again in different form. Not everyone modifies their cars so I see this as merely another "package" car that caters to certain needs and wants of a consumer. |
Well I personally feel that the brz ts (not even a real tS if you ask me if it doesn't come with everything a real tS has) is worth every penny of that 36 grand.

This forum is the worst place to try to identify the "normal" owner of these cars. Many , many of them are owned by people that want some stuff but just like to jump in and turn a key. My car came with pretty much every TRD bolt on available at the time it was built up. I didn't pay full price for them as I made a great deal but I would have if they hadn't budged or had them installed if all they had was bone stock. I have the ability to do it all myself but no longer have the desire since I have other hobbies (really I do) that I would rather spend my time on. We don't all want to mess around with getting and installing parts but do want the advantages of having them. If these BRZs had been out when I bought then I would have had a more difficult decision to make. |
With the way things are going, I believe the twins may be able to rival the Silvia in how many special edition and limited run renditions of the car are released after it's all said and done.
|
funny statement...
haha "It seduces you, lures you closer, and convinces you that you're about to get everything you wanted. Then you get smacked with disappointment to take you back to reality, but the taste is enough to keep you hooked." |
I'm gettin me a Bacon Burger!
|
And then Subaru/Toyota will scratch their heads and complain about slow sales. This is what happens when you're stubborn and refuse to listen to the market. Miata will be next to learn this lesson.

36k for a modded BRZ, I don't even get to pick the mods, and a bunch of other people will have the exact same thing, and no significant power gains... Yeah, let me just get out my checkbook. |

Honestly, it's embarrassing when I'm laying into the throttle, the car is screaming down the road, yet I'm just slowly creeping past the station wagon in the next lane. I still love her, but the lack of power gets annoying. |

I went to look at a 70 GTO that sounded interesting one time. Dude said it was all documented original. Got there and bench seat, column shift 3 speed, plastic (not white metal) emblems and the completely wrong engine. His "documented proof" was a hand written note that said something like "Yep it is all real". All it was, was a Tempest with a hood and some trim added. Not a thing wrong with cloning but don't try to pawn it off as real. |
