It's a concept car

No FI either

There's an article on Jalopnik covering it: http://jalopnik.com/the-subaru-brz-s...ion-1694976533

kpamir 04-01-2015 12:33 PM

Saw this last night on autoblog and jalopnik.

I like it for the most part, hopefully we see something pass down into production for '17.

I wanted to go to the BRZ forum to see some excited ppl, but I dont have the forum listed for me in the main forum page.... is that normal?

The thread is linked in my post above.
You should have it right beside the FT86 logo at the top.

kpamir 04-01-2015 01:04 PM

Ah thanks dude, I see it.

Tromatic 04-01-2015 01:59 PM

I thought we were bad, but the BRZ dudes are champion speculators and spec-guessers based off one crappy pic.

But dude it isn't speculation! The car has side markers so it must be a production car, end of story.

We are all a sad but hopeful bunch aren't we?

Im not gonna lie when I saw the posts last night on Autoblog my mind immediately rushed to the idea of trading in my 6 month old fr-s for one of these when they come out.

NWFRS 04-01-2015 02:31 PM

If I wanted a car with a body kit and a giant wing I'd have bought some kid's ten-year-old lowered Civic off craigslist and saved myself...I don't know...$30k...

Unfortunately Autoblog and their likes have thrown so much crap out there over the last couple of years that they have turned me into a total skeptic every time I read them now. Even when their speculation is correct I figure it was more by luck then actually having good info.
The worst part is one of them runs something and then the rest all use it as their source and keep building on it. This goes on until the next best thing that has been "confirmed" is a hover tech, submersible, with a warp engine and time travel abilities. Then the manufacturer announces reality and it turns out there is a shark fin antenna and automatic windshield wipers.
Probably won't even believe official announcements soon since these blogs are making so much crap up.

Tromatic 04-01-2015 02:48 PM

I find it a bit sad that so many people seem willing to trade for nothing more than an uglier body and a stupid wing. I suspect the "refresh" if it comes is going to be nothing more than factory rice. I'll be keeping my sexy little 13, regardless.

continuecrushing 04-01-2015 02:52 PM

car "blogs" and iphone "blogs" are the worst for speculation...

but on that note, I went to my subaru dealer and pre-ordered one of these.

I wasn't supposed to say anything, but its a turbo-diesel all electric hybrid that runs on propane, turbo powered-twin screw supercharger with AWD.
Also, it comes FWD from factory, with the AWD add-on. I obviously opted for the AWD add on module.

Beauty is in the eye of blah blah blah but as much as I despise speculation without fact I tend to agree with you on the refresh (if any).
It will probably go all rice or all tourer (Genesis style) to try to grab more market share.

Did you get the retractable hard top with the extra rear seat leg room?

Did you opt in for the 4 wheel independent steering? I heard @Koa was a test subject.

The problem with that is that Autoblog uses us for a source, and we don't know a damn thing.

I heard the new BRZ was going to have offensive technology to deal with tailgaters and grandmas who drive in the left lane.

A UK GRx/Harrier is a bad example, since they are all gone.

A circular motion. Quote us, somebody quotes them, somebody quotes them quoting us......

Dived by zero. All this technology and we actually know less then we did before.

Best pic I could get with an 86!
Now if only there were somebody on here that could get a pic with something more up to date.

I heard the next James Bond movie will feature the 17 FR-S. Supposed to be faster than the custom Aston Martin he's driving now.

ETA: That fits with what Mr. Tada told me last week while we were out drinking, that the LFA line will re-start and will be re-badged as the FR-S. The current FR-S will become the Prius, I think is what he said, but I was trying not to barf when he said it. Dude can drink.

Gigantic spoiler should only be on cars that are fast enough to warrant it. I would be shocked and amazed if there were to even be a 10 hp increase.

Not that I plan on changing cars anytime soon (I need to hold on to a car for more than 5 years (for a change)).

Oh definitely.

But that reptilian part of my brain couldn't help but go down that path of events.

I couldn't control it! haha.

The good news, is it has the HP to back up the spoler:

http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/T...STI-2015-04-01

Also good news, you won't need to worry about changing cars cause it's a one off.

The bad news? Still no FI

I'm sure this has been lost on some page on some other post of this but... [like directly above me]

Subaru officially quotes power at 345bhp and 332lb ft of torque, but Subaru's Dominik Infante told TG.com the concept car actually produces closer to 450bhp. "They quote it lower on the stand, but that's just an agreement between the Japanese manufacturers," he smiles. "In the race series they downgrade their power, but in reality - in this concept car - that engine makes 450."

Source

Also, there's this:
"This is not a production car, and we do not intend to bring it to market,"

Concept Car -> Drool -> Back to Reality -> Driving home in my FR-S tonight is going to be a blast anyway. :D

Those specs belong on a 50K or more car. Anyone who thought this would be the next off-the-lot BRZ needs to cut back on the gold paint.

tahdizzle 04-01-2015 07:44 PM

The moment the article said they're going to put a race engine in it, people should have said:

Yes.... it is April 1st.

Just got an email from a highly-placed friend at Aston Martin. Seems someone at Subaru has been asking about V12 engines. He was all "WTF" until he looked at the specs and said the current AM V12 would fit, as it's not much longer than the LFA engine slated for the 16 FR-S. The rear seats would go for sure, but it would fit. He even said "off the record" that someone at Subaru was looking at the Vulcan engine in particular.

Suckers uglified. That's why some variant or at least some styling queues will definitely be showing up on the refresh. They ALWAYS pollute the original releases with bling. If anyone doubts it just look at the long list of examples such as the 240Z, 67 Camaro, 65 Mustang or the 89 Miata.

Or just look at the 2016 Scion iM concept. I've been wanting a hatchback for a while and the concept looks amazing. The actual production model they revealed yesterday looks like ass. Disappointed.

Plus Juan. The 240 was simply beautiful. The new 240 design studies floating around the WWW and for sure the one Jay Leno saw on his video visit to Nissan HQ suck ass. How hard can it be to take a classic forward 60 years and not fuck it up? I'd buy, right now, (200 HP even) a modern 240 that had not been dragged through the LED and square-edge-lip-wing-dumbass aero shop. The very same idiots are hard at work on the FR-S/BRZ "refresh".

I'd guess more like $80k+. I mean, it's the exact same engine they're using for the GT300 race car, a beefier transmission to handle the extra torque, 18 inch wheels, a widebody with functional aero, a carbon roof, a functional GT wing, probably coilovers + full aftermarket suspension arms + a locking clutch-type LSD, etc.... I mean, it's not a full on SuperGT car, but it's about as close as one anything somewhat still resembling a street car could possibly be. It's literally a factory time attack car + some pretty lights. Not anywhere near cheap in the aftermarket and even less cheap coming from an OEM tuning branch...

gramicci101 04-01-2015 08:59 PM

For $80K+, I would really want to see a mid-engine twin turbo flat six or flat eight sportscar that could compete favorably with a Z06 or higher.

Somebody posted that Subaru (or affiliate) could build a rally car with a 0 to 60 in two seconds time and was pissed that Subaru was not offering that to the peons as the BRZ STD for 30K.
