Tomei why you fail meee! :'(

I recently bought tomei uel headers for my car because I read only good things about it. When I installed my ark exhaust I decided to do the headers as well and the fitment was off! One side fits in perfect but then the other side won't go in. It's just one bolt hole thats off by a little, and the overpipe won't attach as well :/ anyone had the same issue?

continuecrushing 03-26-2015 01:47 PM

who did you buy the header from, did you contact them yet?

This! I haven't heard of a single fitment issue with the tomei.

P_say86 03-26-2015 01:55 PM

Other side is on but this side. As you can see one hole is off

VerusEric 03-26-2015 02:23 PM

Are all the nuts loose when you try to install it? Sometimes the header needs convinced it want to go on and all the nuts either need to be off, or extremely loose.

P_say86 03-26-2015 02:38 PM

Nuts aren't on bro. It needs to go in before I put nuts on. That's the problem

veck 03-26-2015 02:48 PM

Did you try installing the header first? Remember all 4 bolts should be inserted at the same time.

That's what she said.

On serious note, there's a specific way to torque these so they fit nicely, starting on the passenger side. Your issue looks pretty bad since you can't even fit it on. Like others have said, contact the vendor you bought it from. That should be a warranty item.

JB86'd 03-26-2015 02:56 PM

Did you undo the overpipe to front pipe connection??

Hm maybe I should start from the passage side. I'll see but I don't think it'll make a difference .

That's your problem. Undo the overpipe to front pipe connection (use PB Blaster or wd-40 and let it sit for at least a few minutes before trying) after that get everything lined up with bolts hand tight, then start tightening at the header to engine bolts. Then tighten the overpipe to frontpipe. Then torque everything in that same order. If it still doesn't line up, you have a fitment issue.

BlackMonarch 03-26-2015 03:14 PM

Never seen fitment issues on a Tomei... The flange isn't bent or anything is it? Also; I'd strongly reccomend disconnecting everything from the header itself, and then installing the header. No over\downpipe etc, just the header alone going on, and then connect everything else.

yomny 03-26-2015 03:23 PM

When you say other side is on makes me think you pushed in one side completely, you do know you should try and push in both sides at the same time, making the studs come through evenly?

zastoke 03-26-2015 03:57 PM

I feel like you are doing something incorrectly here. I bought my UEL tomei from myjdmparts on Amazon two weeks ago, and had infamous performance install it last week. They had no fitment issues, and the car runs and sounds great.

Teseo 03-26-2015 04:05 PM

Or you can go to a muffler shop for installation.

Koa 03-26-2015 04:10 PM

people who are saying I had no issues when I bought my Tomei aren't winning

people who are suggesting the dude takes 10 minutes to undo all exhaust components before attempting the header are winning

you sir broke my equation :(

vroom4 03-26-2015 04:50 PM

Did you loosen the joint and try to spread it apart or push it together to make it fit?

P_say86 03-26-2015 05:06 PM

I took a hammer and tap it a couple times till it went in. End of story haha

P_say86 03-26-2015 05:07 PM

P.s I tried everything and every suggestion

vroom4 03-26-2015 05:36 PM

Ok, well that is the correct method, so congratulations.

Make sure you re-torque in a few days.

tennisfreak 03-26-2015 06:15 PM

Use a blowtorch, they solve every problem :)

P_say86 03-27-2015 01:18 PM

So is anyone running tomei uel with ark grip exhaust? It's obnoxiously loud like a muscle car.. I think something is wrong with the header :/

vroom4 03-27-2015 01:20 PM

You do realize that without a cat on the header, it will make the car louder...

Yea I know but I didn't know it would be muscle car loud with popping noises. I'll take it to a shop and let them look at it

It's not a manufacturing defect. That's the way it's supposed to sound.

You probably now have an exhaust leak
